The english lyrics of 'forgiveness'

Here they are:

Quote:

But I wanted only keep my love
Every cardinal sins
Every immoral things
But I was holding on for my love
I found them at a japanese fan site:
http://www.h3.dion.ne.jp/~ayu-mi-x/

jerms 22nd August 2003 03:51 AM

OMG I KNEW IT! wen i watched the CDTV performance i saw her mouth a "C" at the beginning of the word. i was like HEY she doenst say "every promises" if it starts witha C! thanks!

..and of course..once again..eveyrone was wrong...ayumi ended up having a way deeper meaning..(again) that we hardly understand..:think :think

ImpactBreaker 22nd August 2003 04:05 AM

OMG this engrish is worst than I imagined! It's not as horrible as Tomiko Van's "Drive me nuts" engrish but it's still very YUCK:shrug I hope this is not the true thing...but i tried listening with these and they really suit...so scary....Thanks nmskalmn!

shinji1698 22nd August 2003 04:13 AM

Before you bust on Ayu's engrish... I think she's talking about a cardinal in the CATHOLIC CHURCH, therefore that line makes sense, since she is catholic (i think)

I'm not talking about the meaning. Cardinal can mean other things such as positions, etc so we can't really guess what she's saying until we listen to the whole thing.
I just found this part too hard to endure LOL:

"But I wanted only keep my love"

It's really scary lol

About Ayu's religion there's a discussion about it here: http://www.ahsforum.org/forum/showth...light=religion

antistar 22nd August 2003 05:03 AM

Wow, that's even more random than I expected..
Thanks for posting it though ^^

-BOKU- 22nd August 2003 05:14 AM

lol what i dont get is.. why dosent she make sure its right first.. like im pretty sure someone there knows some english.. why dosent she double echeck ><

mabey theers some kinda hidden message or its supposed to be leik that....

BTW: the discussion for religion (started by me MUAHAHA) is here... although im almost sure shes catholic or christian...

The definition for "cardinal" according to the American Heritage Dictionary:
car·di·nal adj. 1. Of foremost importance; paramount: a cardinal rule; cardinal sins

So I think she is referring to sins of great magnitude. ^^

ooo that does make snes... forgive.. even the greatest sins

lol GO AHS TRANSLATION TEAM! :cool

okay i think this...

she wants to keep her love no matter what major sin, no matter what immortal sin (meaning like grave.. well in the catholic church tahst wat that means).. all for her love...

that wasnt so hard... mabey them in japan understand that sorta english :think

antistar 22nd August 2003 06:22 AM

It makes sense, I just wish she's gotten an english speaker to phrase it properly for her.

its good to think and figure ot out tho heh, good job everyone :thumbsup

Kaiousei 22nd August 2003 09:23 AM

samurai has a good point, after all, it is just a fan site

appears 22nd August 2003 09:31 AM

but she doesnt credit the engrish in the lyrics booklet, just like she didnt with RAINBOW... she must be too ashamed to want it published [?] by not printing it, people are free to guess what it is, if it was actually written, they could go "hey, that doesnt sound like that.. her english is ****!" so perhaps shes trying to maintain some level of mystique as well as saving her ass at the same time

HanabiChick 22nd August 2003 09:54 AM

I'm going to check and see if I can hear them...

Samurai Hamasaki's right about it seeming like she wants to keep her love even though in the eyes of the church it's wrong.... I was brought up a Catholic, and all I can say is - I couldn't even begin to count how many things are wrong or 'sins' to them, there's quite a lot. And in speaking of cardinal sins, that usually means punishment is burning in hell for all eternity...

nmskalmn 22nd August 2003 11:49 AM

Here are the lyrics sung by the background singers (from the same site posted above):

Quote:

War and distraction.
Crime and desire.
But I wanted only keep my love.
Every cardinal sins.
Every immoral things.
But I was holding on for my love.
Btw, I think it is easier to hear the bg singers in the CDTV live than the mp3.

Connected 22nd August 2003 12:16 PM

I think everything apart from "cardinal" is right. It doesn't sound like "cardinal", although it does start with a "k" sound. "But I wanted only keep my love" is good enough for me, the message is clear enough.

Although it would be great for the lyrics to be in perfect English, but at least we know that she wrote it herself and is true to herself. Even if she just asked someone to check, someone might start accusing her of not writing her own lyrics. I think the reason why she didn't publish the lyrics is that she doesn't consider them as lyrics at all, it's like something she just sings along to in the end. Therefore I don't think it matters what she sings, although it's great to know that even the chorus's lyrics has such deep meaning. :thumbsup

We shouldn't really worry about the tiny details. I think the lyric's meaning is far more important than the grammar or whatever.

silliecc 22nd August 2003 02:46 PM

i dont think she said
"Every cardinal sins.
Every immoral things."
doesn't realli sound like that to me

silliecc 22nd August 2003 02:53 PM

I'm not sure but I think she said
"Every promises. Every memories."

ImpactBreaker 22nd August 2003 03:42 PM

I still think she says something like "everyone forgives"...

I don't really like this;
(Quote:)
But I wanted only keep my love
Every cardinal sins
Every immoral things
But I was holding on for my love

Sounds as if Ayu has done dirty sex and is feeling guilty for having doing that LOL (if that's really the true thing thaen I'll just forget about thinking on that LOL) - every immoral things but I was holding on for my love LMAO! (no offense though)

well I just hope Ayu won't take these lyrics to her grave and the official thing will be finally revealed. :rolleyes

destiny_ayu 22nd August 2003 04:47 PM

Wow.. So many suggestion.. Thnx..lol:laugh

eldarion 22nd August 2003 06:51 PM

I can´t hear Every immoral things

I think it is..

But I wanted only keep my love
Every cardinal sins
Everyone forgives
But I was holding on for my love

umm that is not what i think at all. It seems to me that Ayu's lover has committed sins (which is of course very normal..) but she is still faithful and loyal to him and she kept her love for him even though he has done whatever he did. So i'm guessing that her love will prevail over what happened, i like the lyrics very much

HanabiChick 22nd August 2003 07:07 PM

I listened to it again today, and I think that she says 'everyone forgives' too.... I can hear 'but I was holding on for my love' as well. It's hard to make out the middle part, though.

eldarion 22nd August 2003 07:21 PM

watching the AX Music TV , and watching her lips when she sings I think is -Everyone forgives- Even if it was -Every immoral things- I think it sounds more like -Everyone forgives-...

SheFliesHigher 22nd August 2003 08:10 PM

Bleh, I don't like that set of lyrics. Why couldn't they just print the English in the lyric book, like they did with other songs? Grrrr....this is frustrating. I want to sing along correctly!:weep

Ryoko 22nd August 2003 11:16 PM

thx. I though she said "everyone forgives"..

nmskalmn 22nd August 2003 11:29 PM

I believe the lyrics I reported are correct (wouldn't have posted them otherwise ;) ). When I listen to the CDTV performance those words are what I make out.

I think Ayu is the one overlooking cardinal sins and immoral things for the sake of love, not that she needs to be forgiven for her immoral acts. The person she is forgiving isn't necessarily her lover. That's my interpretation anyway, haha

jerms 22nd August 2003 11:47 PM

i hear "crime and desire" perfectly in teh background.

eldarion 23rd August 2003 01:40 AM

I going crazy!

when I listen to the mp3 I hear:

Oh I want to believe in my love
every promisses
everyone forgives
Oh I must going on for my love...

when I watch the live performance I hear:

but I wanted only keep my love
every cardinal sins
everyone forgives
but I was holding on for my love

miruku 23rd August 2003 03:55 AM

hehe. interesting.....
thanx for the update on the lyrics~
guess we were wrong.. oh well :shrugs

minkAYuko 23rd August 2003 08:12 AM

That is so true! I heard the mp3 and the live performance and whatever she's saying sounds completely different from each other. also I can't underestand what she says after the "every cardinal sins" part I don't think she says everyone forgives.

rainbow_momiji™ 23rd August 2003 08:24 AM

Dark_Daigoro 23rd August 2003 10:00 PM

Kewl! I thought Hamasaki english have became very good in " RAINBOW " What happen, Ayu?!:caa Why don't you find someone to teach you how to say those word like what you did in " RAINBOW " ? ? ?:eek

maybe it's " But i want TO only keep my love" that would make much more sense rite?? as for the second and third lines, she definitely sounds a c where cardinal should and a mo where memories(if it was that word) should be....oh and on the third line, it sounds like she combined the last part of every and the beginning "i" in immoral....thats my theory aneewaiz......now, i was juss wondering, is she by chance singing this about her man?? cuz i heard they were having problems....and the song title itself sounds fishy.....:shrug oh wellz

paper_doll 23rd August 2003 11:30 PM

Wow her English is BAD....

yaten 24th August 2003 01:37 AM

I dont know how dead this topic is, but if anyone's interested, in the catholic church there are a few ways to classify sins. Although it DOES make sense, the word 'cardinal' is not used in the catholic church to classify sins, however, the word 'carnal' is ... meaning 'physical'. it is usually in reference to a sin of sexual indulgence, and that word fits perfectly, espically if shes referring to cheating in a relationship.

And i am talking from YEARS of catholic school and church o.o

jerms 24th August 2003 02:29 AM

um. so maybe she sais "carnal sins"

shinjite 24th August 2003 02:31 AM

lol thanks everyone. this is so confuzing though!

well each person can have his/her perception...
for me the lyric is nice...
i assumed it as a story of a sin done for keeping a love
it has such a religion feel just like M

HanabiChick 26th August 2003 06:37 PM

I've been listening to it again, and I can definitely hear this part:

But I wanted only keep my love
Every cardinal sins
Every immoral things
But I was holding on for my love

For the backing singers, I can make out what they're singing, but just the first part :

War and distraction

I think it's not those words, I think it's 'war and destruction' - that would make more sense, and when I listen that's what I hear.

LX Ayu 27th August 2003 09:47 PM

Probably best forAyumi to STOP singing Engrish or attempting to... Only good songs where can can fully understand her was in Everywhere Nowhere, Heartplace, and Over.

Real Me, Forgiveness and you just can't understand her... notl ike I lsiten to Forgiveness anyway. Just that she can't speak nor sing English/Engrish

I think perhaps you are looking too deep in meaning of her songs maybe? Perhaps she just doesn't know what the poop she is talking about... I mean think about it like this... she barely knows English yet she uses sophistacated words like cardinal? Just doesn't connect.

I'm surprised she use Surreal as a song title. I didn't even comprehend what the poop Surreal was until I looked it up. o.O

And does she say "trauma" on trauma? I looked up some lyrics I didn't see it in there... but it sounds like it?

Ayusdream 28th August 2003 01:36 AM

she started to use english in her lyrics since the album "rainbow", but u still can find songs she sings english, like "monochrome" and "love since 1999" (this one is not written by her", some japanese words are just pronounced like english, cuz those words are copied from english

gakkun 28th August 2003 09:26 AM

Obviously she got someone else to translate what she wants to say in English. Most Asian artists do that nowadays. You should appreciate that she uses very poetic Enrish lyrics. Had she said 'Oh I miss you baby' I think everyone would complain much more..

~:Mana:~ 2nd September 2003 12:57 AM

This is tasteless

I think you should be ashamed... Ayumi Hamasaki is JAPANESE. She doesn't speak English fluently because of that reason. You should know by now that she writes her own songs and because of that she most likely doesn't have someone help her. So please, just because you expect her to speak as well as an American, don't. Consider yourself in her place. Be more considerate of her work. I don't mean to preach, but think about it...

mimika 24th September 2003 02:51 AM

this guessin is goin have no end..haha...

i wonder why doesn't avex put the lyrics in the single booklet!

Piccolo 24th September 2003 03:12 AM

Geez, I wasn't that off from my guess. They were similar to eldarion's.

All I wanted to believe in my love
Everybody sins
Everyone forgives
But I was holding on for my love

Thanks for sharing the mysterious engilsh lyrics :)

CREA 24th September 2003 05:25 AM

I know this is quite an old topic.. but I just recently saw the ayu ready? episode 48 where she performs the acoustic version of "forgiveness" and at the end it sounds more like:

But I want to only keep my love
Every cardinal sins
Every immoral things
But I was holding on for my love

The only difference from the japanese fansite being the "wanted" and "want to" in the first line. So possibly if what I heard was correct, we can give Ayu a few extra grammar points.. lol. But using 'every' with plurals.. ^^; But I don't forsake her for using english lyrics, we might not always completely understand, but at least she wants to try something new for her fans overseas. (She should have included them in the single booklet!)

Also, the chorus in the background is singing (I think):

"War and destruction,
Crime and desire"

Then they repeat what ayu says at the end.

And on an ending note, I think all of her performances of "forgiveness" have been more than spectacular. She has so much power in her voice, and you can just feel the emotion. Now I'm sounding a bit cheesy.. :P Oh well.

voltron 24th September 2003 02:15 PM

I think she's saying:

But I want to (pronounced like tuh) only keep my love
Every cardinal sin
Every immoral deed
But I was holding on for my love

I don't think she really pluralizes the words, it just sounds like it because of her pronunciation.

Rebirthia 25th October 2004 04:29 PM

my guess:

Chorus:

War and destruction.
Crime and desire.
But I wanted only keep my love. * (ungrammatical)
Every carnal / capital sin.
Every immoral deed
But I was holding on for my love

Ayu:

But I wanted only keep my love
Every carnal / capital sin
Every immoral deed
But I was holding on for my love

Rebirthia 25th October 2004 04:30 PM

the word "thing" is not very literary, don't you think so?

AyumiFanGuy 25th October 2004 04:46 PM

I still think she says:

"Oh, I want to belive in my love.
Every promise is
Everyone forgives
But I was holding on for my love"

At least most of us can agree on the last line.
:yes

Every carnal sin
Everyone worries/worth these
But I was holding on for my love

i am sure i hear 2 "w' sounds...and definitely not immortal things

Rain_RuLez 9th May 2005 10:09 PM

English at the end of "forgiveness"

So far, at the other forum I've posted this at, I've gotten basically this:

War and distraction
Crime and desire
But I want to only keep my love
Every cardinal sin/sings
Every immoral deed/thing
But I was holding on for my love

The first time I heard something like this...

Every promise is
Every moment is
Both of us holding on for my love

Yeah... Sorry I posted a new topic... but it was kinda dug deep into the forums (the old topic) and I didn't where this particular forum's search feature was =X...

extepan 11th May 2005 06:19 PM

I am VERY sure it is:

crime and desire

Really? I assumed she new English because she did live in New York for a little to take vocal lessons before she started recording her first album. Didn't she? o.o;

Either way, I still like the Engrish. :P

I don't think she new fluent English from the time she was in New York, I mean, she probably had some kind of private instructor who was Asian. Then again I could be wrong.

She was taking lessons from Japanese woman named Mayumi Harada. She was only in NYC for 2 or 3 months, if I recall correctly.

RAISKA 19th August 2005 07:50 AM

I usually only hear

but I wanted only keep my love
every promise is
every moments is
but I was holding on for my love

The lyrics nsklamm have posted are official lyrics of the song, but I usually don't hear what he said, I hear the version I posted..even in the "forgiveness" song. Maybe I am wrong, then-Ayu, please, train your English, okie???

benslave4u 2nd April 2008 08:27 PM

Lyrics in forgiveness...

So I love the song forgiveness; however, I've always wonder about the ending of the song where she started singing English? And the background vocals started singing in English too does anyone know the what they are singing??? I caught something like everyone will something??

GRACE 2nd April 2008 08:31 PM

This should probably be in the Enquiries section, or am I wrong?

Anyway, there aren't any English lyrics in the Memorial address booklet for forgiveness, so I don't know if they're written down anywhere.

I HEAR...

EVERY CARNAL SINS... it makes sense....

Inmoral Things... are related to Carnal Sins... the fleshh.... .... I listen CARNAL SINS... lol

jimex289 11th January 2009 08:59 PM

I think it's carnal sins as well. Sounds very familiar.

Diana 11th January 2009 09:37 PM

But I wanted only keep my love
Every cardinal sins
Every immoral things
But I was holding on for my love

That's how I hear it...Just like nmskalmn posted it. But i have to say that we're going in circle's :P Ayu should stop messing around with us and post real lyrics :D lol

jimex289 11th January 2009 09:51 PM

Well she can't pronounce those words very accurately...otherwise it wouldn't fit into the song. Could go either way then. When I hear it, she says "sins" like "sis"...and I almost hear the word "promises".

rusuke 12th January 2009 09:36 AM

OMG... Ayu is indeed really special.. It's my 1st time to hear the word "cardinal sins" in a song and only ayu did that...That's amazing...

It's not "every cardinal sin".

It sounds more like "every carnal sin". I can't understand the rest. I know some here will say "it's cardinal", but deal with it, she is more surely talking about sexual sin here.

Lyrics are not written in the booklet probably because there were a lot of lives of this song and japanese have the legal obligation to write english lyrics on screen. Ayu maybe didn't want all the nation to see "every carnal sin" on screen.
