Avex press release: Flu in Osaka!?

I just found out that there might be something bad in Osaka, and I think there is some relationship between the flu outbreak and some concerts around Osaka over the next few days (including Ayu on the 20th and 21st, then Ai Otsuka on the 23rd and 24th on the same venue).

Does anybody know why Avex put this press release something regarding on Osaka, the flu outbreak and the concerts? I'd be glad if someone translates for me...

Avex cancels Kansai concerts due to flu concerns

TOKYO —
Record label Avex announced this week that the upcoming Kansai-area concerts of several of its popular artists have been canceled due to continuing spread in the area of the H1N1 influenza virus. Thus far, six concerts have been canceled for Ayumi Hamazaki, 30, Ai Otsuka, 26, and Kumi Koda, 26. The shows would have had a total estimated attendance of around 48,000 people.

Avex originally had no plans to cancel the concerts, instead supplying anti-bacterial disinfectant at the entrance to the concert halls and mouthwash in the bathrooms. Masks would be required for any concert-goers who had coughs, sneezes or any other symptoms.

After further consideration, the company later decided to cancel the shows altogether, saying that there would be problems supplying enough masks and disinfectant to audiences. Avex said they would like to put the safety of fans first, and as of yet, very little is known about the spread of the virus. New dates for the canceled shows are currently being decided.

The H1N1 virus has already resulted in the rescheduling of concerts for boy band Kansai Johnny’s Junior. The group was originally scheduled to play four shows on May 23 and 24 at Umeda Arts Theater.

^ Yup. Because the flu seems to be getting worse in the Kansai area :(
They're going to refund tickets and such.

&&; they're going to try and fix new dates.
Sorry, I forgot to say that ^^;

majrakun 20th May 2009 12:43 AM

Wow, the money-making monster must be feelin' pretty doooown now.

But that's good, at least they're not crazy enough the risk their artists' as well as the audience's (-to-be) health.

Dokiyo 20th May 2009 12:46 AM

wow.....such a terrible time~ but hey~ this means a rest for ayu` right? `^^

JackieRos 20th May 2009 12:48 AM

I think it's the best decision

nanakopy87 20th May 2009 02:03 AM

so means ayu can have some rest on that few days?

alternarist 20th May 2009 02:07 AM

hm... well i guess there is nothing ayu can do. it's not within her control :P

PoetGirl 20th May 2009 02:11 AM

visionfactory 20th May 2009 02:26 AM

I'm worried about Ayu :( I hate this disease

stef_gal 20th May 2009 02:27 AM

Is better to cancel it...
health of Ayu and the people there are more important...

KarenPang 20th May 2009 02:44 AM

I'm not surprised as the flu outbreak situation in Japan is getting worst judging from the daily updates that I read / saw on the news

it's best for the tour dates to get cancelled in case more people gets infected by this

& it's not just her , other artistes are also affected by this too *points to Kanjani8 & KAT-TUN (in due time)

Yes, I think same, that is more important that one tour u.u, they can add the dates in other month, the most important now it's that everybody is ok

TeeMo 20th May 2009 02:53 AM

That's really bad..:( Hope Ayu won't get sick..:D

Ayumiko 20th May 2009 02:53 AM

that kinda sucks...but its a good idea to cancel.

yoshino 20th May 2009 02:54 AM

aww. wat a pity..

thanks for the news.

Chef+Vanny 20th May 2009 04:22 AM

glad that ayu can rest during that period of time

kendelle 20th May 2009 04:37 AM

Geeze, that's not good news. I hope everyone has the chance to come to the make-up concerts! o__o;

I would be so bummed if I'd gone to Japan and only had one chance to see a concert that I then missed! ;__;

duque 20th May 2009 04:47 AM

o well..i guess this sucks...but the up side is that ayu is going to rest XD

avex is cursing now. :D

But Ayu and everyone else's health is extremely important as well, so yeah.

LacusClyne 20th May 2009 05:18 AM

the last thing i heard yesterday was that it had become a outbreak in japan, Osaka was hit and Tokyo is no better. My supervisor said that there are at least 100 cases there now.

and i'm workng in the airport where i will come into contact with people from japan, there are at least 8 flights from and to japan from my terminal....I saw so many people in masks yesterday.

jbrat2219 20th May 2009 05:33 AM

It looks like they made the best decision given the circumstances, I'm proud of Avex. They might miss the money but Ayu/Kuu/Ai are money making machines, Avex wouldn't want to risk their health, especially with this flu.

ll moments ll 20th May 2009 05:34 AM

it's sad to hear the Swine Flu outbreak has effected some avex concerts. :( but yeah, i think it's better to cancel them if the outbreak's getting worse.

Johnny's has cancelled the Kansai Juniors concerts. i'm assume they're going to re-schedule KAT-TUN's Osaka Dome concerts since those are next weekend. KANJANI8's not in Osaka until July. they're in Sendai next week.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 20th May 2009 05:54 AM

I hope they do the tour in Osaka some other time during this year then

AyumiBest 20th May 2009 05:59 AM

At least Ayu will get some rest.

chloeM 20th May 2009 06:20 AM

Osaka? damn... hope ayu won't get all sicky...

Handjan 20th May 2009 06:27 AM

I hope everything will be ok and Ayu gets some rest

rusuke 20th May 2009 06:53 AM

I think avex just did the right thing to cancel any concerts.

Thanks for sharing!

SURREAL__RAINBOW 20th May 2009 07:21 AM

what would happen if it spreads all over Japan?? every single concert would be canceled, not more ayumi tours in a while :(

tinka69 20th May 2009 08:49 AM

lol i just recovered from the flu a little while ago...ugh...it sucks.

tokyoxjapanxfan 20th May 2009 08:56 AM

it's especially scary for me, being in Japan and all...I mean granted I'm in Tokyo...still...I mean, it seems like Japan is having the fastest spread of this :-\ Especially since the country is so small and the population being so big. People travel between Tokyo and Osaka all the time, especially for business. And add in the fact that the people of Japan depend IMMENSELY on public transportation such as trains, taxis, subways and buses.

Ugh, i'm scared :-\

Meat Pao 20th May 2009 09:07 AM

^Oh dear, I hope you take care of yourself!

It's better for them to cancel, I guess, since even if they continue the concerts nobody would probably wanna go anyway :P

Ayunk 20th May 2009 09:27 AM

I like it when she gets to rest but at the same time i'm also worried for her.

LacusClyne 20th May 2009 11:53 AM

Japan had close down the schools, wanting everyone to stay at home, but from what i read in the news, those schoolers went to play instead, and hang out at those public areas like KTV, movies theatre.....this makes no difference.

it's not going to prevent the disease when some people aren't taking care of themselves and others, looks like the flu will get worse, and there's chances that more concerts will be cancel.

gothicayu 20th May 2009 12:10 PM

i agree with avex i think its better to cancell it and report it than spead the flu to every body else . look at in us people dont wear mask automaticly like japanese when they are sick wich make it pretty easy to spread and i wouldnt want my dear ayu to catch a flu . it would be a disaster. its safer for the fans and ayu that way .

thanks for that Eirynne & yes I have a feeling that all the Johnny's concerts will be affected by this

I spoke to my Japanese friend Shuji & he said that it hasn't reach Hiroshima where he lives . So far the virus's confined within Tokyo & Osaka but something tells me the other perfectures might be affected in due time :(

in anycase , I hope the outbreak will be gone sooner or later
