Which concert(s) was(were) sang completely?

I was watching A Museum the other day, and gosh, her vocals were great!! I think is her best concert in terms of voice quality. She did this really cool play with her voice nearly at the end of the Encore too! thing that I never expected from her xD I always thought she would stick to the original song versions or the ones they practice for the concerts.

and, after watching this concert, I noticed that it looks like she sang it all!! I was like woow! so, did she really? what do you guys know?

have she sang a concert without the doubling and stuff?? what do you guys know?

zyoeru 14th July 2009 03:10 PM

I think that a lot of her concerts are sung 100% live...it's just people don't believe it when her vocals are good~.

noidea 14th July 2009 03:14 PM

A Museum: forgiveness and evolution were 100% playback, proven by her using the same playback several times and the rest of that concert looks very suspicious(i always got the feeling like live-playback-live-playback-live-playback and so on...), I actually think its her concert with the most playback out of all(next to PCDL)
completely live were: CT00 session 1, CT00 session 2, CDL00-01 and DT01, after that, every concert either has performances proven to be playback or very suspicious and of course all her TV performances (except this M + Boys and Girls she did in some Asia Show and a SEASONS performance where she was probably ill) were live

SURREAL__RAINBOW 14th July 2009 03:24 PM

^wow, even so her vocals were the best on A Museum! I didn't even liked forgiveness that much lol

I used to believe that until people said that she didn't, so I kinda picked on songs that looked a bit too fake xD

But I still think its cool bcose they take the time to re-record those songs for the concerts, which is something XD not just using the same tracks from the albums like the pussycat dolls did when they came to my city in Australia D:

EDIT: About the Concert Tours 2000 (vol. 2 I think), at the end of Trauma, when she's sitting on this flying thing, they used the original track, and I think its very noticeable xD

noidea 14th July 2009 04:19 PM

yeah, Ayu is definitly better than the likes of Britney Spears about Playback, for two reasons:
1) she only synchs parts of her concerts
2) she records live versions to at least give us the feeling that its live(...and to make it harder to spot it LOL)

About concert tour: They probably dubbed that part over, I will watch the TV version later to see if it really was playback + she sounded VERY near to her recordings sometimes in 1998-2000 era(I remember a performance of immature where I thought it was playback on the studio track until she did a TINY mistake xD)

chloeM 14th July 2009 07:12 PM

wow... where can i watch it
? i wanna watch it~

noidea 14th July 2009 07:18 PM

^ what do you want to watch?

Andrenekoi 14th July 2009 10:35 PM

Noidea thinks everything is playback xD
IMO most of her concerts are entirelly live, but

Even so, there are some songs I think that she never sang live on concert :P But I'm not going to say wich ones cuz I don't really like this discussion

zoomzoom 14th July 2009 10:57 PM

It's very hard to tell since most of her concerts are altered in post production, like all live DVDs are, to improve sound quality.

You can really only judge concerts that were broadcast live, which to my knowledge is only her Countdown Lives. As far as being "100% proven" you can only apply that to obvious lip syncing mistakes, like the ANGELS SONG screw up at PCDL. The rest is pure speculation, some more plausible than other.

noidea 14th July 2009 11:39 PM

^ I dont see how its speculation if, let me make an example, we can see or rather hear in CDL0607 TV VERSION(live broadcast from 31st of december 2006 to be exact) that she uses the audio from CDL0203, A Museum and some other performances, its impossible to sing a song twice in exactly the same way, and ayu sings it exactly the same for several performances, when her overall singing is great(A museum) AND when its bad(CDL0203), she even sings it exactly the same several years later!(CDL0607, AT07, CDL0708) however, in other performances and tv performances, every single performance sounded quite difference from the others, but this vocal track is always 100% the same, every note is the same strenght, hold the same lenght, on the same pitch(+ she doesnt talk to the audience in the parts where she usually shouts come on!...weird that in EVERY SINGLE PERFORMANCE using the good vocaltrack she does NOT speak to the audience, but did so in EVERY SINGLE PERFORMANCE that can be said to be live for sure(every performance where she was VERY out of breath, VERY off-pitch or forgot her lines))several people even prove that by computer audio comparement, just a few weeks ago I got a pm by somebody who did so with some of her performances to encourage me because he was scared to be *****ed out of the discussions if he posted a single post saying that yes, ayu synched other songs than the two where she made lyric mistakes, people dont seriously think she synched two songs and just in these two she does mistakes, while the camera is on her mouth, i once made statistics about her forgetting her lines and compared it to how often she forgot her lines while singing playback(only counted countdowns for both, only counted VISABLE mistakes), i got the result that, if the mistake-rate is the same when she synchs like it is when she sings live, she synched around 25-50 songs in all cdls since 02-03, of course, this is nothing to prove anything with it, but it makes sense...

@Andrenekoi
actually, I think some of her best vocal performances were live, or rather MOST of her best vocal performances, but if a song does give me a playback-impression, ill state that i think its playback, especially if...well, you CAN prove it(like in the example, theres no way the opposite can be said except by some "AYU ONLY SYNCHED TWO SONGS, AND ONLY IN THE CONCERTS THAT WERE ON TV, AND ONLY 1 WORD EACH, AND ONLY TO MAKE FUN OF HERSELF-kiddies), however, i wont insist on something being playback that does not use a "used" vocaltrack already

Yea but.. it's still speculation though. I would never say she only lipped a couple of songs in her entire career when it's clearly something she's not against using, but it will always be speculation. The speculation may make perfect sense and convince most people - I have been convinced several times without visual evidence - but that's why the debate won't die. Speculation lets people decide for themselves. It's subjective.

That's also why it's hard to put down a black and white list of when she did and didn't lip sync, like this thread calls for.

dreamland2.0 15th July 2009 12:51 AM

Some people take this lip-syncing thing WAY too seriously!

you actually did all of that?? wow, you must really have A LOT of time to spare :rolleyes

everyone knows that Ayu has lipsynched in her concerts, that's nothing new, but what i really dislike about people is that the first tought on their mind when for ex. a new TV version of a concerst arrvies is: "Now, let's she what she'll lypsinc in this concert" and stuff like that.
people should stop with the whole playback search and just enjoy the show...

I agree. So far, the only confirm lip-synched case is ANGEL'S SONG in PCDL. The rest are not proven. Oh cumon, comparing vocal tracks of several concerts doesnt mean ayu lip sync! we can only conclude that ayu can sing the same thing a few times that's all.

I can assure you that ASIA TOUR 2007 was all live!

To be honest, i dont really like to see threads on lip-synching or singing LIVE because it just sparks the whole discussion AGAIN and ultimately ending up with no conclusion, only speculations/assumptions etc.

*ok gonna run and avoid being entangled in this discussion on LIP-SYNCHING*

25-50 songs on CLS since 2002?!! HAHA!! THIS IS A PURE SPECULATION!
ok, I will check myself each performances of Ayu on each cdl since CDL02-03( I mean similar songs). This your number made me fun, really. for example I can't belive CDL04-05 had any lipsynch on it because it was a full mess, but! the added FAKE SOUNDS on dvd, so I would not be surprised if some pieces of sound were replaced there, but I never checked, ok, I will check it now and then post result.
Actually A MUSEUM was fully live, Like her previous concerts(Stadium Tour, and earlier, etc.). NEXT LEVEL tour also sounds like fully live

noidea 15th July 2009 11:20 AM

^ Like I worte, I got that from statistics, statistics don't lie, and this cant be checked by similar songs, but you have to look through and count every song that SEEMS synched, because this estimates the REAL playback and not the playback that can be(almost) proven by her using the same vocal track, remember she might have synched songs only for once, so she didnt reuse the vocals. CDL0405: CAROLS used the same vocal track later used in AT05 I think. And there were some speculations about M, but I never really watched that concert, this is only what i heard from others.
And A Museum clearly reused the vocal track from evolution she already used in CDL0203 in both the TV and DVD version(which were entirely filmed on different dates!), so unless they replaced audio of BOTH concerts with THE SAME audiotrack, its playback, I think her first playback was in CDL0102, however, only partly in that concert and she started synching full songs in AT02 and ST02.
NEXT LEVEL tour has most reports saying EnergizE was playback and many saying In The Corner, AUDIENCE and identity were playback.

@alternarist
You forgot about theme of a-nation '03 in CDL0506, she made a lipping mistake there as well.
And you can't sing twice in the exact same way, how naive are you? Its impossible. Even the best vocalists of the world can't do so. Especially not while dancing, while your ill or when your voice changed drastically over the years.
If proven by a computer thats several times more exact than what humans actually can HEAR, and by hearing you can already say that its the same without doubt, because thats still exact enough.
And how can you assure me that AT07 was all live? Thats WAY more speculation than saying 2 or 3 songs were playback.

@ren0210989
That took around 15 minutes and yes I have a lot of spare time, I still go to school after all and I have vacation, you really have enough spare time to read this and answer?
And the first thought is not "WHAT DID SHE SYNCH?", but you can't help but notice it, especially if you know the playback really well already from watching other concerts of hers + Theres always reports before you get the concert saying which songs probably were synched which, of course, makes you listen more closely on these songs.

Ayumi_lover 15th July 2009 11:30 AM

CDL0203 evolution was announced by avex as lipsynch because Ayu was ill, also DVD and TV version of CDL02-03 was filmed on the same date only parts of video were replaced by other date on dvd!
Also statistics in such case not really reliable thing, because counting songs that SEEMS to be lipsynched is fun itself because it based on your opinion only, and about CAROLS I just checked both performances - they are similar, but in AT05 vocals more stronger, while in CDL0405 it's soft and sometimes lost in music.

For you to know it's possible to sing with 99% similar vocals, especially when you're dancing, it's like you can do 10 press-up pretty similar, because vocals are made by muscules. I said it's possible to sing 99% similar, but it actually rare and applies to ballads, because they are easier to sing, it also goes to songs with energy dance because then you have each time same breathing rhythm. For me CAROLS from AT05 dvd and CDL0405 TV versions sounded 99% the same, and 1% was lost because of arrangement and CDL04-05 sound quality. If I would hear CDL0405 in real HQ when I can hear her breathing rhythm than I will agree that it is lipsynch(like evolution at CDL06-07, 07-08 etc)

noidea 15th July 2009 11:38 AM

I meant that A Museum TV and DVD version were from different dates
About CAROLS: As I said, I only qouted other people, I never checked that performance myself becauswe I just can't stand the song anyway xD

Andrenekoi 15th July 2009 12:02 PM

@Noidea@ I was just kidding xD Don't hate me :P

Most of the time, Ayu sings live... I would say that less than 20% of her performaces over those 11 years and some months were lip-synched... some people says she lip-synchs at least 2 or 3 songs per concert, but most of the time this is based on dvd versions were everything is edited (the same goes for tv versions broadcasted days or months after the recording, like the a-nations or at08). I would say that Angel's Song and Greatful Days were never sung live on concert, and some more songs I can't really remember right now... But as someone stated, I prefer to just enjoy the concert^^

Ayumi_lover 15th July 2009 12:06 PM

I still don't understand why people saying that Greatful days on A-nation 08 was lipsynch

noidea 15th July 2009 12:08 PM

^ because it just gives no live impression at all, except for the lalalas, they always seem live to me, but i only watched the a-nation '08 performance once, so i cant say anything about that

@Andrenekoi
Actually, I think something between 15-20 % probably is the amount of playback
And I know that you were just kidding^^ Just wanted to point it out, mostly for the other poeple.

1) ok i forgot about theme of a-nation '03.

That doesnt change the fact that your "she sang it completely live" is speculated in just the same way. Your "I was there" is nothing to prove it as well.
U cant prove anything with whatever u said. All I ever wrote makes more sense than your "I was there!!!!!!!" argument. And seriously, I don't believe that they completely replaced the audio for several songs in that tour, and that they even had the oppurtunity to do so, because she usually speaks to the audience and shouts out come on!s in songs like evolution and UNITE!.
many, many people, especially new fans, here belong to the "Ayu is perfect!"-fraction, of course they won't believe me, measuring truth by how many people think it's right is crap. Or do you say the Nazis were right because many people believed Hitler back then?

Andrenekoi 15th July 2009 01:38 PM

^ Well, I just think that if he can't bem sure it was live even being there, people who goes to her concerts and are 100% sure it wasn't live can't be trusted too..

noidea 15th July 2009 01:39 PM

keikeiaznqueen 15th July 2009 01:56 PM

At the end of the day, whether or not Ayu was lip-syncing at a concert or not, if you're there watching it live, it doesn't matter because the impact is pretty much just as good.

I *do* believe that AT07 evolution was playback, but that doesn't stop it from being one of my favourite performances. Also, I also believe Greatful Days at A-nation 08 was playback. However, I don't think this sort of thing should be treated as something negative, because Ayu clearly doesn't really think so. :P

I prefer her to do what she's comfortable with. I think having a few songs each concert as playback gives her a major boost in her vocals for her encore, otherwise she'll be too tired!

Her really early concerts though, Concert Tour and Dome Tour were definitely live. :) I'd also like to add Stadium Tour in there, but I'm not 100% certain. Maybe 90% certain. :P

I agree with you almost 100%(only Stadium Tour is the thing I do not agree with, but we shouldnt discuss this now^^ and CDL00-01 was 100% live as well, just to add^^)
I think as long as Ayu does not synch one of the following songs:
A Song for XX
teddy bear
Memorial Address
untitled ~for her~
or a complete concert, I'm totally okay with it.
And I also LOVE some of the performances I think that were playback(Marionette in AT08 belongs to my favourite ever performances though I think it was playback)

Ayumi_lover 15th July 2009 04:29 PM

evolution at AT07 was live, at least it's ballad part! I tired of proving it by bootleg video!

noidea 15th July 2009 05:12 PM

^ yeah, i might have confused a little, i splitted the song in two files on my ipod, one being the ballad intro and the second being the main performance, so i always forget about that part

and the "what did she synch" part wasn't aimed at you directlly, it's a general thing a lot of members seem to have recentlly, so don't get all quirky about it. i'm not here to start an argument with you nor anyone else.

of course everyone pays more attention to a song someone reported as being synched, but to search for tiny details of every performance just to see if it was live or not just ruins the whole concert and i find it sad.
(again not aimed at you directlly, it's in general)

Facts: evolution at CDL02-03 (this is the one mimed cuz she was sick, right?), Theme of A-Nation'03 at CDL05-06 and Angel's Song at PCDL08-09

I don't remember reading about an official announcement about CDL0203 and IF there was one, they would have included all playback songs and not just one. evolution wasnt even the most obvious one in that concert IMO

Ayumi_lover 16th July 2009 05:03 PM

Limited TA Live Tour 2003 was fully live
Evolution @CDL0203 was announced as playback(and some more song, don't remember which? Unite?) in order to not break the show

noidea 16th July 2009 05:22 PM

probably UNITE!, that song is on my mental list of playback in that concert(along with two other songs I don't want to specify because people will instantly start attacking me)
but why did they announce the playback in CDL0203 where she only was a little ill but not for any other concert(like for pcdl were she was in WAY worse condition) I think thats really weird

Limited TA live tour:
How can you be sure? I wont say any of the songs is playback because I simply never really watched that concert, but I think saying everything in one concert is live is a little too much speculation as well

Ayumi_lover 16th July 2009 06:25 PM

well because that was limited fan-only concert with very small audience, without much dances and redressing i'm sure that was fully live.
It's like you would lipsynch on your school evening^^

noidea 16th July 2009 07:39 PM

^ of course thats true, but i wouldnt erase the possibility, she also synched in Super Dry Live(or rather: I get the impression she did so for 1 or 2 songs) and that was very short and without much dancing as well, and 3 costume changes(which all took really long) i think, remember that we are missing the encore of TA Live Tour, however, I just watched it and I actually think that the main concert is completely free of playback(loud backing tracks for some songs like Real Me, but no playback), I actually think its the only concert after CDL00-01 that has its main portion free of playback.

SunshineSlayer 16th July 2009 08:29 PM

Generally speaking, her early concerts 2000-2002 were completely live. A-Museum, I would have to go back and watch the tv version again, but there are a few questionable ones.(Greatful Days in particular comes to mind) Most of the time though, I agree with you that her vocals in that concert were amazing.
From that time on (with the exception of TA live), all of her concerts have some questionable performances, some of which have actually been proven.

Not according to several reports. Even someone from this forum reported seeing her mouth completely different words during Energize.

I think it depends a lot on whether its your first time seeing Ayu or not. They'll have a tendency to view things with rose colored glasses more than someone who has seen her live several times.(I know because I was the same way^_^) Or if several reports are stating the same thing, then obviously that should be given a bit more credibility than the one report from a fan who thinks everything is live.

or a complete concert, I'm totally okay with it.
And I also LOVE some of the performances I think that were playback(Marionette in AT08 belongs to my favourite ever performances though I think it was playback)

Exactly my sentiments as well. :yes

And btw, I don't recall any kind of official announcement from Avex regarding lip synching at 02/03. I don't think they would ever do that. I do remember thinking though that concert was surprisingly LIVE considering the condition of her voice. I would have thought she would have lip synched more actually. The DVD of that concert though is a prime example of editing. Her mic didn't even work at all for a good portion of Everywhere, Nowhere, yet her voice is perfect on the DVD.

edit: I take back what I said about Greatful Days in A-Museum. I dug up the tv version of A-museum this afternoon (which was filmed on a different date than the DVD) and it definitely sounds live. The DVD probably features a lot of editing which would explain why so many in that concert could appear lip synched at first glance.

i always wondered about Theme of A-Nation'03 at CDL05-06 .... why id everyone so convined it was playback??
everyone's as sure of it as her Angel's song and Greatful Days performances.... and franklly i don't see it that way...

noidea 16th July 2009 11:29 PM

^ ayu did a lipping mistake in theme of a-nation, but its hard to see, when i didnt know at which word exactly i had to watch her mouth i wasnt able to spot it

@ SunshineSlayer
Oh, I thought the mic cut out in WE WISH and wondered why i heard mic sounds xDDD
And I was also positivly surprised about WHICH songs were live in CDL0203, Real Me, Free & Easy and Voyage are hard songs, yet she sings them live in that concert

SunshineSlayer 17th July 2009 12:06 AM

About A-Museum, which was the main posts focus, after watching the tv version for the first time in a long time that concert actually looks and sounds mostly live. They just did a lot of dvd editing to make it sound better than it already did. Her voice really was just THAT good at that time period. Whatever she did for her voice then was the right thing to do. It seems the last few years she doesn't really take care of her voice; the ear is also a factor but regardless of that, the quality of her voice in general has taken a downturn since 03-05.

And yeah, Theme of A-Nation - I didn't catch it the first time around either. It wasn't until someone else pointed it out on the forum and I went back to check (tv version) and she does indeed mouth the wrong word.

A Museum was GOOD and very well done in terms of vocals! I was really surprised xD lovee that concert now :lech

I always wonder if ayu got any vocal problems, like nodes or something, because maybe she used to sing wrongly and maybe too much as well... of course her hearing problems affected her singing too!

awww what a pity... I lovee that live from theme of a-nation '03!! it was sooooo good and she looked sooo beautiful!

asmAyumi1992 24th July 2009 09:34 AM

Actually, I don't like the perfect concert. I love when she forgot her lines and also fell from something. It could be so special concert for me.

all i can add tot his is that, during HAPPY ENDING in AT05, you can clearly tell that they used the recorded vocals after the dramatic ending part where shuyu (?) gets carried off stage. it sounds IDENTICLE to the CD.

Or do you say the Nazis were right because many people believed Hitler back then?

this is my favourite post out of all your amazing posts in this thread.
