R/S were multiple versions..maybe thats why S/S is lower

well, it's not that bad... This song is not extremely well produced, and the cover sucks. The pvs are boring, and the lives are boring because the dancers are there..

As long as she keeps her no. 1 streak, I'm happy :P.

this single doesnt deserve good sales after all :S

Mirrorcle World sold 37,271 the first day Almost the same as S/S.
No way S/S will have similar 6th and 7th days of it though.

Rule/Sparkle is a better single, yes... but in Japan, generic summersingles like Sunrise tend to sell alot more than good rock/electro singles.. You'd expect this single to outsell Rule... Unfortunately, that might not even happen.. O well, as long as she's #1 :)

The sales should be steady since there is no FP, but we'll see. This is the kind of single that Japan loves, after all.

Mirrorcle World had MAD 6th/7th day sales though lmao.

I'm surprised the 1st day sales are lower than R/S.

Also, although MW 1st day sales are similar, because it was released one day early, I think the 1st 2 days should be combined because some people who intended to buy it on the "first day" maybe not have known it was released one day earlier than normal singles are released.

We should in bear in mind that Rule/Sparkle also had a FP that had her drawing on the CD, and 3 versions as well. I'm not saying they make a big difference, but you never know. ^^

Releases that have first presses though tend to have bigger drops right?
So it might not drop too much tomorrow (I mean won't drop by 20,000 or something).

LMAO. Good music doesn't mean good sales. What you or I consider good music might not be what others consider good music.

The first day is ok, with some luck the single could end up selling similar to Rule/Sparkle in the end. Until I see how the 2nd day goes, it's hard to say how the single will do. Hopefully it won't drop under 20k tomorrow.

Compared to the most recent efforts by other female artists who gained their popularity more recently this is very good. It will surely end up selling over 100k.

MW had the crazy sales on the last two days of the week because avex made a strategy to fight off SCS (the unknown explosion). If there wasn't a tough competition, I dun think MW would have such crazy boost up at all for the last two days, and the final sales for the first week could be 110K or so.

yea, and this single's pvs were weak too... though Sunset is the best of this single, everything just fails to me. she's just getting "good" sales thanks to the 'fans until dead' fans and because she's Ayumi Hamasaki.

I really wish that ayu takes a break, though she's one of the most stubborn people I ever seen.

S/S has a good chance to outsell it.

It seems like talkin' 2 myself will remain the scapegoat as of the late era of ayu.

For a pretty bad single (imo) this is doing quite well. To me, the songs and pvs just look like they cut corners... same tune, 2 songs, same stage, 2 pvs. Unattractive covers, not really memorable songs, so... I'm pleasantly surprised at the sales! Make it to numbah 1!!!

talkin' 2 myself only debuted with around 25k dropping to 16k the second day if I remember well, it still managed to sell 110k. Which means that this single will too :)

Rule/Sparkle is a Good single and the songs are Amazing. =/ It has the right to have higher sale. What make u LMAO about that? Am I wrong sayin' it's better than this horribly boring single?

Generally those sales are undeniably still good they will affect ayu (well avex) with a great profit.
If it will manage to sell 130,000 (like R/S) or 115,000+ it will be really good since it will sell similar to namie's single (who just had a million and a half selling album). The only three who passed that are YUI, ayu (with D/G that is considered 2009 in oricon year and is the 2nd best selling single by a female artist this year) and that enka singer with ai no mamade that has the best selling single by a female artist of this year.

We can see that female artists didn't so much great with singles this year.
That's why if S/S will manage 115,000+ in total it will be great since averagely it seems to be the new great, or at least above average for female singers with singles.

I actually think that it's her strongest summer single since INSPIRE.

I really wouldn't mind if it would outsell, fairyland, BLUE BIRD or glitter/fated but it has no chance :P

you know... I gave too much expectation from fairyland, and its episode II (BB) and III (glitter) were pretty lame (in terms of the similarity of the tunes). But fairyland still sold decently (about 170K on the 1st week, over 300K in the end), and BB was a bounce back from the so called horrible sales from B&D and Startin'. Not to mention that BB sold over 160K on the first week (last single able to sell over 150 on the first week, and over 250K in the end).

Just my opinion... I dun think S/S is that strong compared to fairyland and BB... :). Even dumping away the sales and other factors... The quality itself isn't that great at all. Probly I've heard Sunset for 20 times at least, but the play counts of Sunrise on my playlist is less than 5..

Well, since Oricon doesn't count online downloads, we cant say how popular or not popular this single is, because not many people will buy physical singles anymore..

But I dont think Sunrise has done bad.

^ayu is never a big seller on digitals. Even tho she may get weekly no. 1 on downloads (e.g., Days), the sales figure may not look as good as, let's say hikki. I can't remember.. but did Days' overall download exceed 500K (ringtones + full song combined?)

Since Together When... that sold 970,000 digitally, it's correct that ayu has no digital hits.
MW and Days full songs sold 100,000 digitally and the ringtones weren't certified though the singles sold 190,000+.

I Don't think that we should compare ayu's sales to hikki. (Specially not from 2007 and not to the songs that had those amount of huge legal downloads).

People here have different tastes, some will like fairyland more than BB and Sunrise, some will like BB more than fairyland and Sunrise and some will like Sunrise more than fairyland and BB, I'm one of those people :P.
It's almost as good as July 1st imo.
The fact that it sounds closer to July 1st more than the other type of summer songs might do it for me.

So D/G will be on the 2009 single ranking, right? I remember YUI fans rejoicing that YUI's single "again" surpassed Ayu's R/S as in terms of sales in 2009 and is now the best-selling single by a female artist this year. :P I suppose they weren't counting oricon year. I feel oddly happy about that.

I'm still hoping that S/S won't go by the halving formula for her other single sales though. Since there wasn't first press for this single, perhaps the 2nd day sales will be higher. THEN going by that and making a prediction:

36k --> 26k --> 15k --> 9k --> 9k --> 7k = 102k

I tried to be very optimistic with the dropping numbers. 2nd day numbers were inflated just because I hope they will be high. :P YUI's 1st two days were really really good. If only Ayu went from 36k to 34k.

On a side note if we did the usual halving though:

36k --> 18k --> 9k --> 9k --> 9k --> 7k = 88k

Yes Rule/Sparkle was better imo as well, but that doesn't mean it sold because it was better, talkin' 2 myself was the best single she released since HEAVEN (imo of course), but it's among her lowest selling singles. The quality of the music doesn't necessarily mean good/huge sales.

Yeah YUI had FMA2 tie-in and I am hoping Sunrise/Sunset will have more stellar sales, but it would be good if it could sell as much as "again" in it's first week.

Sunrse/Sunset is doing well digitally :)

that time when YUI's again was released , all her fans rejoiced in that she had the highest 1st week sales attained by a female solo artiste & NOT the total sales that again has accumulated so far

I should add that again's her 2nd best selling single , the 1st being Goodbye-days

anyway I hope Sunrise/Sunset will do well . I can't comment about Morning Museume at all since I don't listen to them

I've just realizedcrazy boyband shuuchishin doesnt release anything for almost 9 months.. where are they..hahahah

this year is better. last year no any female solo singer stay on top 10singles

Shuchishin has been disbanded since this Jan with 1 of them called Yusuke flying solo

you can see his 1st 2 solo singles in the top 50 chart & I like both singles of him despite the fact that I don't plan to listen to Shushichin at all

Koda with 3 SPLASH has sold 87K in 3 weeks with a 3 a-side single and 3 PV and multiple verions with gift, etc... so looking at that it seems great if ayu can do that in only 1 week with S/S.... no? ^^

They count it as a normal year. Same goes with GReeeeN, they have the highest opening of the year even though Mr. Children's album, which was released on the 2009 Oricon year, opened with 707,000.

Hey! We all are comparing ayus sales with other artists, YUI's sales, yearly rankings... Kuu is another artist as much others! Everybody is a bit sad with S/S first day sales and making predictions that doesn't mach past single standards, etc...

I'm only saying that Kuu with a more complet single has sold 87K in 5 weeks and that one of our worse predictions for S/S first week is to sell 88K so we don't have to be upset or sth cause S/S will be really lucky if can reach this in one week...

Yes actually Kuu's sale for 3 SPLASH was really bad... it's a good and strong single with goodies... so I don't know... :shrug I'm saddened too.

But well back on topic... I really can't wait for tomorrow's sales... I'm predicting 28k~ or so.

Ayu doesn't even deserve #1 tbh. Momusu worked way harder to promote their single and it's their 40th.

Nope, its 10k higher than R/S.
R/S used the x1.7 multiplication just to make it higher.
S/S will be HIGHER if they use the x1.7 index, but it was eliminated by ORICON this year.

We can see the ACTUAL CD sales. :)


Its better to let go the x1.7 and satisfy the decent sales than to loafin' around on the past sales and sad.
As of the performance of S/S on the release date, im very satisfied. :)

Oh and overall the entire single is (this is amongst albums and singles they don't seperate them on iTunes)

Everyone should stop freaking out, its impressive that S/S sold as much as it did on the first day. The fact is its getting harder and harder for physical CD sales especially when 1) Digital downloads are way cheaper & 2) How many people out there are still willing to pay $15-20 for basically 2 songs unless you're a hardcore fan?

I thought WILD was one of Namie's best songs and that single ended up selling even less than Rule/Sparkle. Unless you're one of those boy bands that are invulnerable to worldwide recession, expect a dip in sales for everyone.

^Not to mention there aren't various versions and no first press. Sales may not have a drastic drop because of that though.

Disappointing it debuted lower, but it's still debuted at no 1! :D

Those are possibilities as well, but who knows how much they would help with sales? How do we know they would even help? I think the result would have been the same.

Could 100~150K be the new 500K? It seems all of these popular artists (excluding boy bands and new, really popular songs by new artists) are selling about 100K per single...

YUI, Perfume, Koda Kumi, Kobukuro, and many of GreeeN's singles can only sell less or a little more than 100K these days, and they're all very popular artists.

So with that in mind I think 500K is the new million seller!

Maybe a little on the first day thats why second day sales drop so much and that why i said the good thing is that we probably won't have that big drop now.

She'll reach one million sales this year. She would have to release another single/dvd/compilation album by the end , right? She can't leave us hanging.

The sales are scary but even with the crappiness of the single it should have hit 50k with all the promotion. At least she got number one spot.

I think the first day is kind of low. Mainly because this is her summer single and usually those would be selling more than stuff like Rule or MW.
