Ayu's Curtain call VS Sara Bareilles' Gravity PV

i saw Sara Bareilles' Gravity PV this morning and i just realized that it's so similar with ayu's Curtain call. even the random umbrella part is there too lol
this video was released in february 09. i don't want to stir arguments here, just want to share to you guys.

Andrenekoi 29th August 2009 07:55 PM

Loved the whole effect of "she is walking on space"

Polyrhythm 29th August 2009 08:21 PM

I've never even heard of this person...and I don't like the song that much...but what a gorgeous PV! Kicked Curtain Call's butt. It reminds a little bit of Curtain Call but not that, that much....just a tiny bit

asmAyumi1992 29th August 2009 08:30 PM

Wah! Very similar to Curtain Call!

Maybe another fan of Ayu??? Who knows :shrug

:D

Ayumiko 29th August 2009 08:41 PM

very beautiful video...both videos were around the same time....wonder if its just coincidence.

Crystal_Ageha 30th August 2009 12:21 AM

Eh, not very similar. The 'walk slowly towards the camera dramatically' thing is actually very common. Umbrella is just a coincidence, lol.

zyoeru 30th August 2009 12:30 AM

^ Yeah, it is. Like a similar thing is done in Neapolitan Dreams. :)

pommy48 30th August 2009 12:35 AM

oh i love gravity's MV...at least there's more things going on the background

Picaflor 7/4 30th August 2009 12:51 AM

wow that was so beautiful. I favorited that. I think I like it more than curtain call. but not sure. some things were similar

single shot
umbrella thing
stop and the camera does a 360 around her.
constant walking towards the camera

but idk. curtain call is too simple of a pv. I'm sure there are tons of other mvs out there that did the same thing. its like saying someone stole ayu's idea for daybreak cause in the video, the entire time someone is standing on the side of a road singing while the camera never changes scenery.

only thing that annoyed me is that this video was sloppy. i know it was supposed to be space but not space at the same time. it was just a little too sloppy for me. but still very beautiful. I do like it.

Yes kind of similar to curtain call. but again the idea is too simple and basic to not see it used anywhere else in the music industry.

Aisha_Angel 30th August 2009 01:02 AM

Mj's Stranger in Moscow MV has an umbrella-walker in it too. In fact, I think there may have been more than one. *I have Alzheimers* (not really, but it feels like it sometimes...)

AyUmIXx 30th August 2009 02:45 AM

this kind of PV, i mean by walking and walking for the entire video..guess that it's been done long long long long time ago by many artists...
and i think Ayu is kind of inspired for it~

love in music 30th August 2009 02:54 AM

anything is better than curtain call PV lol

nvm just watched it, it's even worse

ストロボ・EdGE 30th August 2009 03:03 AM

It's not the most original premise so I doubt that its more than coincidence but I actually like that song and the MV.

For those who haven't heard of her, you might remember if you heard the song "Love Song" it was really popular last year but she's basically a one-hit wonder. I hated that song.

:D

next level was released march 25, 2009, as well as the curtain call pv.

this was february 09.

I'm not saying one inspired the other but she shot this before Ayumi!

but for my two cents maybe same director? I like the walking through a movie set theme... but yes it's been done before :D

truehappiness 30th August 2009 03:39 AM

Mmm, she did Winter Song with Ingrid Michaelson~ loooooooove that song.

It's a nice music video. More complex than Curtain call with all the lights and random people running back and forth.. but eh. I wouldn't say one is better than the other though.

nanakopy87 30th August 2009 03:52 AM

not a bad MV.i think this concept is being used by many artiste before.so i can't say who inspire who...

tetsuo69 30th August 2009 08:28 AM

Looks a lot better LOL

chloeM 30th August 2009 10:09 AM

oh my... this is one beautiful PV... thumbsup

no comments to the Curtain call and this~

mcluva420 30th August 2009 10:13 AM

nice song, i think im gonna get it :)
i dont like this type of music video, "nice" but boring :o

naxxo.licious™ 30th August 2009 10:40 AM

...WOW.

This is srsly one of the most beautiful videos i've ever seen. No kidding. Stunning.

It's indeed similar to Curtain Call, but i like this one better. What a beautiful song btw.

EDIT: Okay, i watched it again, and it made me cry lol. Beautiful things make me cry. I must buy this album :laugh.

and they're also a piano based song. :D

i love both song but i prefer Gravity over Curtain call. it's a damn beautiful song :luv2

ayane4ever 30th August 2009 04:58 PM

I dunno who she is but u r right the video looks like Ayumi's

Yeli13 30th August 2009 05:23 PM

Stunning, the whole idea is just awesome, and the song, kinda boring at the beginning, is finally powerful and touching^^ For sure this PV has some similarities with Curtain call, but I think it's only a coincidence. Curtain call is simple (in the good way) and Gravity is a little more complicated (galaxy themed), and with much more movements

I think the same thing. There just two things that are similar between the two pv. No more.

Rocky Raven 30th August 2009 06:04 PM

Beautiful song with bearutiful MV! I always love this kind of MV, very relaxing!
And this MV's definitely better than Curtain Call

haikudasai 31st August 2009 05:43 PM

Sara's music video fits with the title of the song and it's creative on how everything fits.

Ayumi's was a sloppy mess with rushed things like those fireworks that just burst out lol Lord help her.

I don't see a similarity except for walking and night time.

I do suggest some of you listen to this song. It's beautiful.

:roflmao

I love curtain call more :luv2

But this PV is nice too. Wasn't curtain call directed by an American director? Or western director? Maybe that's the reason for the coincidence.

!Lawi! 31st August 2009 09:07 PM

I don't like the song that much, but as it was said the PV is from far better, eventhough I don't see a clear link between those !

~*Mabushii*~ 31st August 2009 10:27 PM

I didn't like either music videos..
they're both sloppy messes..
this song is ..meh... and I wasn't overly fond of curtain call either. :P

blackmage 1st September 2009 12:50 AM

I like Sara Bareilles' video more. Its more complex but simple and the song is amazing (I've been a fan for some time). Let's remember that came out before Ayu's. Umbrella usage is just coincidence. Though I love Curtain Call, the PV wasn't really that great to me. Ayu's acting was a bit too dramatic for the video for me in a few parts that didn't call for it.

C+R+E+AYUMI 1st September 2009 02:12 PM

pretty similar!!! I like this too...or a lil bit more than Curtain Call!

Lanz16 1st September 2009 02:25 PM

Beautiful PV. :)
There are similarities on Ayu's Curtain call.

I like the lyrics of the song by the way. :)
Thanks for sharing! :D

Sandre 1st September 2009 02:47 PM

Wow, I like this video.

rakeru 1st September 2009 09:12 PM

wow, that's almost as beautiful as Curtain call! there are just a couple things that make it look less professional and smooth; nevertheless, a gorgeous video.

AyUta 3rd September 2009 06:15 AM

wow, very similar, yes. i like ayu's better though because it has ayu :P :laugh
