Boyzone star Stephen Gately has been found dead at the age of 33.

The singer fell asleep after a night out while on holiday in Majorca yesterday and never woke up.

Boyzone manager Louis Walsh told the News of the World: 'We're all absolutely devastated. I'm in complete shock. I was only with him on Monday at an awards ceremony. We don't know much about what's happened yet.

All four remaining members of Boyzone - Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham - will be flying to Palma, Majorca tomorrow.

Shane Lynch told the News of the World: 'Me and the boys are flying out in the morning. We just need to get over to where he's passed and work out what we need to do.'

Ronan Keating, who is in Chicago, is said to be completely devastated.

Gately came out as gay ten years ago - causing a sensation in the pop music world.

He wed Andrew Cowles, first in a commitment ceremony in Las Vegas in 2003 and more formally in a civil partnership ceremony in London in March 2006.

Gately enjoyed success as a solo artist. He was also a star of theatre, TV and radio, appearing in the West End as Joseph in and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and in the ITV show Dancing on Ice.

Boyzone had 17 top five singles and four number one albums before splitting in 2000. They made a comeback tour in 2007, inspired by the success of Take That.

A spokesman for Boyzone confirmed the death but details are yet to emerge.

I know, it's heartbreaking...

I found out through Mollie's (from The Saturdays) twitter. I didn't really listen to them, but the fact that he died so young while still successful is so sad....

I'll pray for his family. I can't imagine the pain they must feel.

I saw this on TV this morning, it's so sad. He's only a year older than me, it's a bit scary to think he could die so suddenly :(

yeah & the scary thing's that he slept & the next day he was unable to wake up O_O

sounds like those mysterious sudden death cases to me , paranormal wise . He probably fell into that trap which's unfortunate :(

So sad. I'm not really a boyband fan, but my friend loves them and I went with her to the reunion tour last year which was a good show. They all looked so happy to be back together.

I thought their last single Love You Anyway was pretty decent.

nope.not yet...i think not yet because i didn't see any updates online

There are rumours in UK media about an 8-hour drinking session, where he went to a club and went back to his apartment, continuing the drinking, but it's just rumours. Most of what I heard of him was that he was not known for heavy drinking/drugs etc. He seemed to keep out of the celebrity parties etc. and was not known to be involved with that type of lifestyle. There will be an autopsy done tomorrow, so why he died we won't know for a few days.

I don't know it really does sound o_O from the look of things but like what you said , hopefully after the autopsy's done , then it will be known what actually caused Stephen's death

i remembered the first song i listen to his song after boyzone disbanded was "New Beginning" and " I Believe" .both of these songs are so nice which i listened everyday that time :'(

Boyzone to bring Gately's body back to Ireland

MALLORCA (Reuters) - Members of Irish boy band Boyzone were on the Spanish Island of Mallorca Friday to take the body of bandmate Stephen Gately back to Dublin where he will be buried Saturday, band member Ronan Keating said.

"We flew to Mallorca today to accompany our pal on his final journey back to Dublin where we know he will be given an unforgettable send off tomorrow," Keating told reporters.

A post mortem revealed Tuesday that 33-year-old Gately died of natural causes due to fluid on the lungs at his home in Mallorca last weekend.

This is really sad to hear. May he rest in peace.

DUBLIN - Some 3,000 people lined the streets on Saturday for the funeral of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, who died on the island of Majorca a week ago.

The four remaining members of the Irish boy band sang and spoke at the service which fans listened to through speakers around St Laurence O'Toole Church where locals had swept pavements and painted fences in preparation on Friday.

Gately's Boyzone bandmates, who spent the night in the church with his body, helped carry the coffin out of the church.

A post mortem revealed on Tuesday that 33-year-old Gately died of natural causes due to fluid on the lungs at his home on the Spanish island last weekend.

Pulmonary edema is not a disease on its own...it is most often secondary to another cause. The msot common example would be pulmonary edema caused by severe heart pump failure, so the finding of PE needs you to find what exactly was the cause that lead to it. If he has no history of chronic heart failure, an acute heart failure could be caused by acute myocardial infarction. And then an acute myocardial infarction in someone who's that young could be justified by use of drugs like cocaine or meth, so the finding of pulmonary edema on necropsy isn't exactly excluding of other causes for his death. Also narcotics overdose is one of the several causes that can lead to pulmonary edema. Or massive vomit aspiration from deep alcoholic coma, who knows (but I guess they didn't find signs of that). The results of the toxicologic studies still need to reach a conclusion here, I'd say.

was watching news just now.and i heard ronan was giving a speech inside the church with loudspeakers so that the fans who stayed outside of the church can know what's happening inside was crying till almost can't speak T_T

33 is too young to die. Not much of a Boyzone Fan here, but this is horrible. Must have been a shock for the rest of Boyzone too. Didn't they reunite in recent times? Rest in Peace, Stephen.
