Most recognizable Ayu outfit?
 

I'm fairly decided on dressing up as Ayu for Halloween, but wanted to wear an outfit (preferably one that isn't too difficult for a college student with limited supplies to construct!) that wouldn't be too difficult to recognize, if only by the Japanese students. Many of my friends at school are from Japan, and I only a handful of students from America, China, Korea, and some other countries who know of/love Ayu as well, so I'm really not too bothered about everyone understanding what I'm supposed to be dressed as.

I was thinking of attempting to make/wear the shredded denim costume from the evolution PV. Does that sound like a good choice? Any other suggestions, or suggestions on how to construct it?

In short, when you think of Ayu, what outfit do you think of?

But the fox tail evo and the Duty one would be nice. Or the Jewel (which is expensive) and the NEXT LEVEL (ppl who doesnt study japanese will think you're a hot mess)

I think leopard ayu is quite recognizable I guess. I don't know of any other singer that has a cover like that!

Either Duty, I am... (God how many vines are you gonna use?!), or the evolution outfit with the foxtail... that's quite signature.

Probably Duty or I am... since most people were into her at the time and remember songs from those eras.

I agree. These tree are the very most "Ayu" to me.

I don't really associate Ayumi with any particular outfit, nothing came to mind for me. But if you tried hard enough to look like Ayumi I'm sure I would probably figure it out if I saw it.

I actually couldn't think of any either... But the evolution look is probably most popular/well-known, even if it isn't a favorite among some.

Psh, go in a RAINBOW look. Paint the upper half of your body blue, the lower half a chrome blue, and dye your hair. :laugh Just kidding.

If it's for Halloween, you can also make Never Ever costume with all the messy / dirty make up, handcuffs and you can always add fox tail too

Maybe you could also do the alterna outfit from the PV? People might think you're just a doll though...

and then...I think the ourselves outfit is pretty noticeable, and also, the Free and Easy Ayu with all the armor...

The Ayu's from the RAINBOW PV? lol OH, omg, the REAL ME outfit Ayu. That one would be so cool, the dress is really pretty, I've seen people cosplay that.

If you wanted to do kimono, you could do Ayu's part of me concept. Or also the outfit from the Will Lumix cms, or the Voyage ayu.

I think you could also do the one-winged angel from the Endless Sorrow PV.

Most of these people aren't really gonna recognise as Ayu...but they'll still look cool lol

I am's cover would probably be really easy. Just go to a craft store where they sell cheap silk/plastic plants and buy the vines.

I am... would probably be the cheapest to put together if you're on a limited budget, and it is VERY identifiable. Or was until Shakira's album cover from a few years ago... Anyway. It's probably best if you have budget concerns, although the Duty outfit wouldn't be hard to find the parts for at the moment, being that it's Halloween and all. :)

I think for the most Ayu-esque without being too confusing, definitely the denim "evolution" outfit.

IMO, as much as even I think of "I am..." and "Duty", Americans won't associate it with Ayu. At least the denim one would be "different". Hahaha.

emiko also mentioned the "Endless Sorrow" one-winged outfit. That's another one I would consider.

I'd be too embarrassed to pull LOVEppears off...But you could always put on a tanktop that matches the hue of your skin and then drape the wig down in front.

Other easy costumes that I can think of are: evolution PV-outfit

Dearest PV outfits (the pink one & the yellow-black one)

Startin' (the Superman t-shirt, the BAPE-hat & jeans)

NEVER EVER (if you can find an army-fatigue tank dress. I'd suggest looking at a donation center for this one, of course then you may have to worry about the size)

ayu's outfit in STEPyou in the CDL07-08

Those of us who only follow Japanese music would (I don't follow american music at all... whenever a comparison thread shows up with ayu & a western artist doing something similar, it's always news to me. So I'd think Ayu immediately if I saw those costumes).

They would be especially effective costumes if they had little details like the dove and the red heart sticker. The devil's in the details - that means you gotta do the hair & makeup right too or it won't scream "ayu!" immediately the way it could.

Duty would be a nice option, and for Halloween, it would be so cool if you pick Ourselves black outfit. Ladies Night it's so popular too, here, I see every year girls with that outfit, they look so cute ^^ .

Oh, I forgot to say.... I don't think that the Evolution outfit it's her most recognizable one so far... Maybe it's well-known in the hard-fan base, but not for everyone.

I think, people who know Ayu will recognise your cosplay no matter the outfit, but I personally would cosplay the "Ladies Night"- or "my name's WOMEN"-outfit. These two just look soooooo gorgeous!! *.*

honestly I don't think anyone would recognize her. (Well...I'm in america so that's definitely so). I could wear a freaking shirt where I live that says 'AYUMI HAMASAKI" and spam her A symbol all over my town and still no one would recognize her.

You know...I haven't seen anyone attempt her real me look. The white dress she danced in OR the really sparkly robot/cyborg one with that red jewel thing on her forehead. That was really cool looking and I think people would know that was.

Or...You could just cover yourself in toilette paper and a white blanket and say you're ayu from her Daybreak pv...

Still... using evolution outfit for example is like... random blond girl on jeans outfit xD

^That is the first outfit I thought of, too! :D Absolutely the best. I remember seeing a girl years ago dressed up as Ayu in her evolution PV outfit. I told her how awesome of a job she did, because the outfit was PERFECT.
