Interesting/Unusual Packaging

So, I just saw this:

http://www.maniadb.com/album.asp?a=130791

Looks like the album was packaged in some kind of plastic bag with a liquid inside to complete the theme of "underwater". Wow! :thud

Any unusual packaging methods you guys have seen?

Polyrhythm 24th November 2009 10:41 PM

LOL. That's kinda tacky....*water pouch punctures during shipping/handling* There goes that $20 you paid for the album....

hearted 24th November 2009 10:46 PM

omg thats so cool!!! actually alot of korean packagings are awesome!! the japanese should learn from them since their cd's are always more expensive but you still get just a cd case :grumpy

the cd's i have with unusual packaging:
DBSK - mirotic
lee Jung Hyun - Avaholic
Lee Hyori - Hyorish
DBSK - "O" Jung Ban Hap

I know Ami suzuki 3rd album Infinity eighteen vol.2
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SUZUKI-AMI-JA...item588439722d

Mr. Goto 25th November 2009 02:08 AM

Pretty much all Korean albums nowadays have interesting packaging. China does too. It's really cool but sometimes it can be a bit too much...just a regular cd case is nice :yes That water one is amazing though

One of favorite packaging is Ami Suzuki's Don't Need to say Goodbye. She was one of the first artists to do the unusual packaging. I quickly took a few pics..

Spoiler:

http://i49.tinypic.com/2pzciv5.jpg

the inside is housed in a clear plastic sleeve
http://i50.tinypic.com/ou9m2x.jpg

then you open the inside kinda like a letter
http://i47.tinypic.com/wjx7d4.jpg

and it turns into a giant heart :yes the thing in the middle is like a single digi pack type thing that holds the disk

Hmm Gazettes DIM album was interesting. I have the DVD versions so I dunno if the regular CD one is the same. Behold! Haha I actually took a video for it. Laame. It's better than me failing at explaining it. xD

Also the cover and back cover of the lyrics booklet were actually a bumpy texture.

TITANIC 25th November 2009 02:39 AM

Mr. Goto : I dunno if Ami's single dont need to say good bye has unusual package. I thought only Infinity eighteen vol 2.

thanks for those picts. it looks very nice. now that I think unusual package is more interesting
hopefully ayu does one in someday

happiholic★ 25th November 2009 02:46 AM

I guess it's the way to get people to buy the album and not download it.

Picaflor 7/4 25th November 2009 03:46 PM

off the top of my head, the only unusual packaging I know (that everyone knows) is kumi's 3 splash, one of the cds came in some weird pouch thing. and G-dragon's Heartbreaker is fronted with a positive cast of his face. like this

NintendoHTF1242 25th November 2009 03:49 PM

Ugh that Heartbreaker CD looks so creepy.

OMG. :shakehead

I didn't know it looked like that! I'd only seen 2D versions of the cover and I wondered why it was so ugly. It's SO COOL like that though! haha I want it now.

@hearted Do you mind if I ask what's unusual about the way the DBSK albums you have are packaged? I plan on purchasing some soon-- so I'd like to know. :)

hearted 25th November 2009 09:06 PM

^want me to take some pics :P

Do you see the box for G-Dragon's album on the bottom right of the picture? The box for MIROTIC looks like that. It has the cover at the bottom and the album/photobook behind. It's so gorgeous!

Polyrhythm 25th November 2009 09:50 PM

I think Kpop has really crossed the line of being just tacky tacky tacky. Honestly, if you need to release every CD with some kind of "cool" gimmick than the music itself probably isnt something that people would buy normally....I dunno....Kpop packaging seems a bit contrived to me

Hazuki 25th November 2009 11:07 PM

the g-dragon case is the bestttt. XD
people filled it with water and froze it to have a "g=dragon ice face" lol~~

taskinillusion 26th November 2009 02:24 PM

Well, I think that's really awesome. I love creative stuff like that! Definitely gives you more incentive to buy the physical copy rather than just download it.

Corvina 26th November 2009 03:03 PM

The water thing is awesome!
And Avaholic also.
And I agree, it's a good way to make people buy your physical CD and not only to download it. I prefer good and creative packages.

nemesisyume 26th November 2009 03:48 PM

I love the packaging of lee jung hyuns avaholic

http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...o-HOLIC003.jpg

buy it now to get my dirty stove for free

the do not drink this water warning is amazingly awesome

The Korean industry is falling apart and piracy is insanely high, so I guess they need to have something special about their releases to make people buy them physically instead of downloading them for free instead. :yes

hearted 26th November 2009 06:45 PM

hearted 27th November 2009 04:43 PM

^lol XD its the repackaged version, dunno if its C or D though,,, here's the link: http://www.yesasia.com/global/dong-b...0-en/info.html

keepsgettinbetter 27th November 2009 05:16 PM

It's so cool! I love how K-pop is so cheap. :dead2

Picaflor 7/4 28th November 2009 04:51 AM

I think it's awesome that kpop comes in special packages. if everything just came in boring old jewel case then why not buy it all digitally?

I think tae yang's HOT album is packaged kind of cool. it's a metal round tin.
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2416/covercad.jpg

atleast I think it's a tin. not sure. I saw pics of it somewhere and it looked metally, like the top came off.

Rainbow141 28th November 2009 05:02 AM

This is noothing interesting, but definitely unusual, in my opinion: the packaging for Ayu's Fly high and kanariya. They've always struck me as odd. And kind of cheap, too. :rolleyes

asmAyumi1992 7th December 2009 07:07 AM

I hope Ayu could do the same thing too. But I hope the price are still the same as the packaging looks so expensive.
