I dunno about the LOVE JAM covers. I've seen this debated in other forums too...in that album she was definitely aiming for a more cute, "Ai-chan!" look, so I don't actually think it was meant to be sexual..although I find it hard to believe that they did that photoshoot without someone finding it to be seen that way and pointing it out.
But Ai's always had this balance between being cute and sexual - it's really weird. (example; aisu x time PV = sexual, kthx) I like her cute look much better, her more..sexual work really disturbs me, lmao. Like others have said, I still have her in my head as a young girl, so to see her suddenly going round kissing people and..stuff..@__@; It just seemed wrong~ |

About LOVE JAM, is one of my favorite covers ever, and I believe is an icon. The contrast between sexual and cute is what makes it interesting imo, there's a million cute covers out there, specially on Japan. It was an amazing idea for a cover and I literally bow in front of the designer who came with the idea... if it wasn't Ai herself which I wouldn't be surprised. And to whoever said that she wasn't exploring her sexual side that much at around that era, if you think about it, even if she wasn't exploring it at that time, it was still there. I think that the cover of LOVE JAM is intensely artistic, it's not over the top, but there's still that element of sex which makes it intriguing.

As for her LOVE JAM cover...it looks like I may be the only person who thinks she had every intention of making the cover sexual. She's super cutesy, but she definitely knows what she's doing. She does lots of subtle sexual stuff all the time. It's almost like she can hide behind her cute image on purpose. :P |
