Do you get annoyed when you find out that your fav song is a cover?

I don't know if this subject has been discussed before, and I really wonder does anyone get disappointed/annoyed about this :P Sometimes I don't care, but mostly I'm "Damn, why?" @.@ I don't know why is so irritating. Maybe because that artist isn't original xD

I don't care only if covered song is on some compilation xD

rookies 22nd January 2010 07:42 PM

I don't know, I guess it depends on a few things.

zoomzoom 22nd January 2010 08:45 PM

I voted it depends. Depends on how much I like the song and/or artist, but it does sorta bug me. Not sure why. Maybe because it feels less original or less creative or something. Takes away from the whole "wow, this is so brilliant, this person is amazing for creating this" and then eeeh, somebody else made the recipe..

emi♡ 22nd January 2010 08:48 PM

No. Not unless I really believed they had composed it or they said/implied that they did.

To me, most artists don't write their songs, so it doesn't matter.

Besides, covers don't automatically = unoriginal. To me it's creative that they took a song they must have really liked and wanted to sing, and put their own edge to it.

It's just for fun imo.

Picaflor 7/4 22nd January 2010 09:10 PM

idk cause my favorite song isn't a cover.

noidea 22nd January 2010 09:34 PM

Depends on how well executed the cover is and how original the cover is. You can cover a song and make it sound like almost a new song, which is completely positive, or you can cover a song in exactly the same way the original is, which sucks.

JackieRos 22nd January 2010 10:17 PM

ugh no because for me usually the cover is better than the original

NintendoHTF1242 22nd January 2010 10:26 PM

It doesn't matter to me really.

Adding to the originality thing, there are times when the covered song is better than the original. Like incorporating a new music style, new arrangement or a tempo change is creative because when the song was covered, everything could have been left as is and it's something only the artist/band came up with.

Also, cover songs give you an insight to their favourite artists/bands and type of music.

this.it depends how the arrangement and also how he/she sing the song.

Kingdom 23rd January 2010 06:17 PM

nope.

pommy48 23rd January 2010 07:14 PM

Nope~ Sometimes I'm mad that the artist I like didn't get to that song first since they sing it better than the original artist

I like Jolin's covers a lot better than the original artists ♥

So I like covers :D Only when the artist actually sing it better than the original :luv2

prussian blue 24th January 2010 09:48 AM

i always have a thought that covering a song is just lack of creativity XD i know this is not true, but yes, i will be very disappointed if my favourite song is a cover

aqua_crystal 24th January 2010 12:01 PM

Nope.

This has happened to me a couple of times and usually I think, "Oh cool, theres another version of the song!"
IMO, it has nothing to do with lack of creativity unless the cover is a dead exact copy of the original.

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 26th January 2010 11:56 AM

nope. idc~

non3ko 27th January 2010 02:50 AM

Depends. Namie's cover of Come was better than the original IMO.

ImpactBreaker 29th January 2010 11:29 AM

Only if the ocver I like so much is completely inferior to the original. Usually covers can bring a new light to a song, or become better than the original, so I don't mind.

TITANIC 29th January 2010 12:32 PM

I dont know. it really depends on the song and artist and even the arrangement. if its 100% same I will be disapointed

spookshow 30th January 2010 02:52 AM

doesn't bother me, but thats because i love covers

zyoeru 1st February 2010 10:08 AM

When I found out that "Sunrise ~RAB is ARR~ (I WRITE UNDER 浜崎あゆみ, COMPOSE UNDER CREA AND MS PAINT UNDER Kazoyoshi Shimomura)" was a remix I was quite annoyed....

nemesisyume 1st February 2010 10:09 AM

a remix? o.O how?

love in music 3rd February 2010 06:58 AM

This hasn't happened with any of my favorite songs but covers do annoy me sometimes and I find it hard to appreciate the song since the artist didn't write the lyrics to it.

Minttulatte 3rd February 2010 01:06 PM

I do get annoyed if my favourite song is a cover at times. :D

extepan 13th February 2010 02:53 AM

No. i don;t care if it's a cover as long as it's a good song

rakeru 13th February 2010 06:17 PM

Yeah, it makes me sad that it's not an original. Like Vienna Teng's Green Island Serenade. I thought it was so cool that she was singing in Mandarin, to find out that it's already famous.

ville 21st February 2010 08:52 PM

no no.

xLitax 21st February 2010 09:11 PM

This just happened to me. :laugh It wasn't my favorite song, but I liked it. So, I was a little peeved when I found out.

Kazeyomi 21st February 2010 09:36 PM

nope
I'm just surprised :yes and I'll search for the original one!

zellyx 21st February 2010 10:13 PM

YES!!

happiholic★ 22nd February 2010 05:48 AM

I do. If I really like a song, and I'm thinking "wow, I'm so proud of them!" and then you find out it's a cover it kinda kills the excited vibe, you know?

howtousesexy 26th February 2010 04:14 PM

no i dont care

Rainbow141 26th February 2010 04:18 PM

I get disappointed, more or less. :( Unless I find out that I prefer it over the original. :P

RyRyMini 27th February 2010 05:56 PM

It doesn't bother me. A song is a song.

MiiSan 27th February 2010 07:08 PM

It dosen't bother me that much, when I discover that my favorite song is a cover it just surprise me and then I keep loving the song XD

gallowsCalibrator 28th February 2010 05:11 PM

None of my fave songs are covers, so I've never experienced it, so I'll have to say no

R_Hikki 2nd March 2010 09:11 PM

No, but I get annoyed when my favourite song is being covered by some random generic band >.>

This.

I don't get annoyed if one of my fave songs is a cover, it surprises me but I don't really get annoyed.

Rainbow141 2nd March 2010 10:14 PM

Ah. I thought of one that really annoyed me/made me sad. Mi, arguably my favorite J-Pop band, did a cover of W's Give Me Up, and made their own -single- of Give Me Up featuring the song and all. I was so upset, it's a great song and I thought it was theirs. :(

Though the original rawks. =P

W's version was a cover too. XD BaBe released it in 1987, and their version was also a (Japanese) cover of an English song by the same name by Michael Fortunati that was released in 1986.

Spoiler:

appears 4th March 2010 09:34 PM

^ lol@a cover of a cover of a cover

drewbilation 11th March 2010 02:55 AM

never. a good song is good whether it's a cover or 100% original.

Picaflor 7/4 11th March 2010 04:07 AM

utada's fmttm is a cover of a cover of a cover too actually. frank sinatra did it, and then some 70's band did a cover of the song. and then utada's is based off of their less jazzy, more ballady version based off of frank sinatra's. haha

and then we have our youtube utada hikaru fans that like to sing in their videos making it a cover of a cover of a cover of a cover. yay

Hanabi_surreal 11th March 2010 04:44 AM

Nope, in fact I like it ^^

Only when the singer don't make a cover per album 9_9

Miduhyo 11th March 2010 05:11 AM

nope doesn't bother me.

What bother me are the fans that go CRAZY over the fact that its a cover... and crazy in that bad mob-killing-spree way... :no

zyoeru 11th March 2010 01:19 PM

Well, not really. Maybe I'll think something like "Oh my God, I wish they'd written this!", but in general it doesn't make me annoyed, in fact it makes me happy they chose to cover that song and bring me new music. Some of my favourite songs are covers like Chihiro Onitsuka's cover of Nagoriyuki. :)

C+R+E+AYUMI 20th March 2010 10:10 PM

no absolutely. often covers are better than originals.

see ayu's teens..her version is much better :yes

xLuna&1LOVE 20th March 2010 10:13 PM

I loved Leona Lewis's Run in the past, but then I found out: Run is a track of Snow Patrol. I never had listen carefully to that band and I only knew one track; Set the Fire to the Third Bar

It was disappointed. I really thought Leona Lewis had a masterpiece of a track by herself.
BUT! Her cover was really good! That's why I voted 'No'
