If she makes this much now I can't even imagine how much she was making when she used to sell over 500k per single.

she used to sell 8 times better in 2001, well that was her peak back then.

i wonder if she can maintain her spot (top 2) in 2010. Avex already *****d her best albums released in 2007 and 2008. Namie has past<future and koda will release another best, while ayu hasn't anything 'special' besides a new original album and dvd tour.

Well, instead of looking at actual sales, how about looking at her position on the chart? She's the best selling female artist of the year for the third time consecutively, so that accounts for something. Even in 2002 which was part of her peak she was #2 ( :shrugs ).

It's because 12 of their albums were re-released in a remastered format, also they had a Rock Band game come out with their name on it, I think. :)

Sadly, he would never have sold to well if he were still alive...

To be honest, she also released about 8 times as much in 2001...

I think she can manage but on the other hand it's quite scary because sales are decreasing.

If im not wrong, Ayu was the best selling artist in japan for 2000,2001 and 2003
2002 and 2004 was hikki
2006 and 2007 was kuu
2005 was orange range.
2008 was EXILE
2009 Arashi
so since 2000-2007 except 2005 was a year for a female solo year.
now is boyband year
