Do you care about the album press?

So, do you guys care out your album's press (Japan, Overseas, Korea etc.)?

I only like to buy Japan press. :yes but of course it's really easy for like singaporean people to go and buy a SP-press album from a normal cd store so...
but myself, i have to always order from CdJapan/YesAsia and i always pick the japan press...

emi♡ 25th January 2010 10:26 AM

Yes I do.

I only buy stuff to collect...so it needs to be Japanese First Press.

KarenPang 25th January 2010 11:06 AM

I voted sometimes but I actually wanted to say not really -_-

I only get Japan press if the artiste I support doesn't have any to begin with X___X like BREAKERZ who's unfortunately under an indie label who likes to suck my $ too & I thought the way avex trax does their marketing/promo is bad

if not , OS press for me . I can save 1/3 if not 1/2 of the cost that I pay as compared to a Japan press item

doesn't help that the Japanese yen is forever not working in my favour too T_T

Amrai-chan 25th January 2010 11:20 AM

I guess I'll vote sometimes. I don't have much money and while I do buy stuff to collect I buy things because I want to support the artist in someway as well.

I try and get Japan press whenever I can but if it is something that's out of print and easier to find in another press I get it that way. Or if it is something I really, really, really, really want a physical copy of when my money is low.

xLuna&1LOVE 25th January 2010 11:51 AM

Yes I do. Not that much, but I do. I only buy Japanese presses.

Meat Pao 25th January 2010 12:26 PM

Yes, because Japan press is not only more authentic but also of better quality :yes

NintendoHTF1242 25th January 2010 12:44 PM

It doesn't matter to me. A CD is a CD. I'll buy whatever press I find and whichever is cheaper ;DDD

jiarongisme 25th January 2010 12:50 PM

Sometimes. Of course it's best to get the Japan version but sometimes it's just too expensive to handle especially those with special bonuses like an extra DVD or a photobook. Nowadays, I stick with the Taiwan press and if I find good deals on eBay, I'll get the Japan press. :yes

JackieRos 25th January 2010 12:54 PM

hell no what matters is the music
there is no difference well supposedly the "quality" but who cares so what

zyoeru 25th January 2010 01:52 PM

No, I don't care what pressing the album is. I'm not a collector so it doesn't matter to me.
I don't have enough money to worry about superficial things such as that. XD

sanzo2011 25th January 2010 02:23 PM

sometimes ! if the japan press's price 's affordable , i'll buy it .

Corvina 25th January 2010 02:44 PM

I always buy japanese press.
But I always buy the press of the original release (japanese press for japanese singers, korean press for korean singers etc.) anyway. :laugh

Teppei-chan 25th January 2010 03:12 PM

Sometimes.
When i got my copy fomr A Complete All Singles I was a bit sad to see that it is an oversea version but when I got the MY STORY album I didn't care if it's another version then the japanese press

Yoake 25th January 2010 06:19 PM

I always take the Japan press if it's a japanese artist. I think it's normal.

aqua_crystal 25th January 2010 06:55 PM

For me, yes it does.

I wanna get the Japan press whenever I can, especially if its a DVD (since my DVD player can only play Region 2 stuff). I only buy Korean, Hong Kong, Chinese press when the Japan version is sold out or I have no other option.

But I NEVER buy Overseas versions, ever!

milky_way 25th January 2010 07:35 PM

Yes. I really only get Japan press because I usually pre-order everything, but if it's an older release and I'm flat broke, I'll get an OS press.

Crystal_Ageha 25th January 2010 10:52 PM

Of course!! I buy because I love music and collect CDs, but also, mainly, because I want to give my support. Why bother trying to support if your copy won't even count towards the charts, ya know? :\ Plus, the whole quality thing... So yeah. Japan press all the way, every single time, no matter who or what. :yes

dreamland2.0 25th January 2010 11:08 PM

Nope don't really care one bit... I'm a student and I don't always have the money to buy (highly expensive) Japan Press. Plus I have an awesome asian music store fairly close to me and I buy a lot of my CD's from there and they are always Hong Kong/ Taiwan versions.
Of course some artists don't have OS presses and therefore I shell out my money for the Japan press. I also try to buy new releases in Japan press but in the end it's not a big deal to me :D

Polyrhythm 26th January 2010 04:41 AM

Well...I only get Japan press if it's something important (such as when the NEXT LEVEL album came out and there was the drawing)...and for Japanese artists that dont release other versions (Perfume). Otherwise, the HK/Taiwan presses are usually just as good in quality and such though, the casing of the Japan press is superior especially for CD+DVD. It's not a difference I think is worth the extra $10-$20 though. What should be avoided are the China presses which are just crappy. The case is flimsy, cloudy (like dirty?)...and the chinese words are plastered all over the discs.

rookies 26th January 2010 08:43 AM

Sometimes I care, because the main difference is the price, which is a big factor to me, and I find Japan Press quite expensive and not very affordable.

edit - I meant to specify that I was referring to brand new copies of Japan presses. Second hand copies of Japan press are quite affordable, on the other hand.

nemesisyume 26th January 2010 10:23 AM

I couldn't care less
really
it's all ********

I'll just get the one that happens to be cheapest

AyumiBest 26th January 2010 11:38 AM

No I usually don't care. As long as I get the CD I'll be fine and happy.

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 26th January 2010 11:38 AM

no... these far i have bought only the Indonesian-press of Ayu CD... (A COMPLETE & GUILYTY @ $10)...
yeah.. always looking the cheapest one... (i don't work, i'm still a student, i hardly have money~ ) :D

TITANIC 26th January 2010 12:07 PM

sometimes...
it really depends on the artist

ayumi.hamasaki 26th January 2010 02:17 PM

Sometimes...

AyUta 27th January 2010 01:45 AM

Hm, sometimes.

pommy48 27th January 2010 06:05 AM

Sometimes

I usually buy TW press because it's cheaper, but I'll only buy JP press when there isn't a TW press or when the TW press doesn't include free stuff like with JP press

Twinkle ! 28th January 2010 05:26 PM

I Buy JP for support only :D And maybe if there's special stuff in

nanakopy87 31st January 2010 06:18 AM

sometimes.i usually will buy TW press.but i'll buy JP press if there is any special stuff that only JP press has like A Song for XX.
otherwise,i'll buy TW press

ll moments ll 31st January 2010 06:37 AM

NOPE. as long as it's official & not a bootleg, then i don't really care. :shrug

though, i tend to buy JP presses when i can't wait for the OS press. :laugh

hearted 2nd February 2010 11:15 AM

naah i dont really care, japanese press is always so expensive so id rather buy a cheaper one :P

Luja. 2nd February 2010 11:27 AM

For me the press matters when it comes to a new release. I love to have first press things (especially when they come with a photobook or poster :laugh). I am a collector but I started buying CDs to support the artist.
So generally I buy Japan Press for Japanese Artists, Korean Press for Korean Artists and so on.
Most CDs I buy are Ayu's or Kumi's, so the very most things I own are Japan Press :)
To be honest I just like Japan Presses more, too.. don't know why>.< Just feel happier when I get a japanese one (when there are more version available! I also feel happy when I get a korean release by a korean artist even though there is a Japan one).

Earth_maiden 2nd February 2010 12:27 PM

It depends on the artist, usually. Gackt's and Ayu's releases I prefer to get JPN press, but for artists I'm not religious about I don't mind getting the OS press, like Koda Kumi, Ai Otsuka, and so on.

gothicayu 4th February 2010 08:31 AM

of course i only buy japanese press because they are the best quality , they count toward oricon and they are the " original "

adrtwb 5th February 2010 06:32 PM

Sometimes,if they came along with some excelent goodies or whatever, or else normally normal edition will actually satisfied me.

RyRyMini 6th February 2010 05:37 AM

Depends on the item, usually I don't care. But if the item comes with a poster or something, I usually like it to be Japanese press that way the text on it is in that language.

mcluva420 6th February 2010 06:39 AM

JP Press. (I dont buy much) Since I'm a late j-pop fan, I cant get first press >_>
even for American albums, i'll be tempted to get jp press cuz theres more tracks and stuff :dead

this. (but I'm a tad leanient)

I try to get japan press whenever possible, (korean press for kpop items) but if I can't, then I go for overseas, I'm not a fan of chinese/taiwanese etc. presses.

that is so true.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 7th February 2010 04:21 AM

sometimes!

for ayu and alan (my 2 fav jpop singers) of course it does!

but i dont mind getting different presses for namie, kuu and even meisa kuroki xD (never getting China press though... their quality is terrible D: )

LacusClyne 9th February 2010 03:09 AM

i prefer japan version

for new items, i would want them to reach me ASAP, that's why io always use EMS for cdjapan to reach me on the release date.
even for older release, i can still get it from auctions sites.

moreover, the quality of the japan press is better.

although i can buy cds easily in my country, but i can't stand the ugly censorboard sticker! it's very difficult to take off.

but if there's more version of the album, i'll normally get like this:
CD+DVD, japan press
the cd only, os press(for the translation sheet and for the cover, if i can't afford to get all the jp press)

you should be glad that AT LEAST a sizeable/decent amount of jpop material are made available to be sold here in HMV Somerset/Citylink , Genie

not every country's as lucky as us & have you seen the censorship board stickers for Malaysia & Indonesia ?

it's 100000x times worst than ours in that it's the size of a police badge

at least for the censorship board stickers , it's quite small & erm colourful

waterballoon 9th February 2010 03:37 AM

Recently I've been getting Japan press of singles/albums of artistes I REALLY LOVE. :)

actually i dont mind about the censorship sticker at all, at least it proves me for buying originall stuff.

for my case, i will always buy OS press because
-i cant get JP press locally
-even though there's a JP press, i cant afford to buy it

KarenPang 19th February 2010 03:21 PM

^ agree

it's just a sticker at the end of the day , your eyesight wouldn't get blinded by it anyway :o

if the sticker really annoys you , just pretend it never exists or just get something to remove it from the CD casing , period

what matters more's the content & as long as it's not a bootleg , it's good enough for me

Kagome-chan 19th February 2010 03:27 PM

Of course!
Only Japanese Version!

cosmeticmusic 1st May 2010 03:53 PM

Yeah. I've bought overseas and Taiwan editions before, but I'm really OCD about having the original albums of my favorite artists in the way they were meant to be...

2Hurt 2nd May 2010 10:25 AM

At first I didn't, but now I do, I only buy Japan Versions these days :D

Ayuko 2nd May 2010 11:13 AM

Sometimes, I only buy the JPN press for CD+DVD versions (because I need the Region 2 dvd), but otherwise it's the OS press =)
I don't really mind which version it is tho ^-^

Twinkle ! 2nd May 2010 03:19 PM

recently i try to get JP Press and i only order JP Press for future releases :D

amorphose 2nd May 2010 03:42 PM

Sometimes... If I really like the artist a lot, I want it to be JP press because I want it to count on the charts! That's all though. Otherwise, I don't care.

toniayu 2nd May 2010 03:43 PM

yes,i only buy the japan version because for me is the original

Far Away 4th May 2010 02:17 AM

No, it doesn't matter to me at all.

KuuXAyu-fan 4th May 2010 12:17 PM

My first preference is Japan press. However usually the HK press is JUST as good as the JP press and I barely notice a difference. Japan press is also pretty expensive so I only buy for artists like Ayu [boxset for example].

tinka69 6th May 2010 12:09 PM

Not for me. The only reason I would by a Japan press is if I wanted to collect and sell later on when the artist drops dead and they become super rare and expensive. But, I know I would never want to part with it so...like, what's the point? Might as well get a good quality one that is WAY less expensive plus all the little extra things on the side :)

ストロボ・EdGE 7th June 2010 05:18 AM

I'm surprised this isn't a 20 page discussion.

I dunno, I think it seems a bit stuck up, but I prefer the Japanese press... Like, a lot of people who bought the foreign press versions of AB2 White said that the cover turned yellow over time and that the paper and overall quality is low in general :dead2. And also I like for the whole thing to be in Japanese, like the back of the CD and the obi, etc. I feel stupid for saying it, but yeah, I only want Japan press. If I wasn't so retarded about it, I think I would own every release by every artist I like.

gallowsCalibrator 7th June 2010 05:36 AM

^ I'm the same way (^_^);;

(although OS press is cheaper so I tend to buy it more :laugh)

lovelism 7th June 2010 06:07 AM

Sometimes~ it depends.

y_nathz 7th June 2010 10:51 AM

Sometimes, and it depends :yes
If it was something like NL USB then yeah I need JP press :laugh

Midori-chan 9th June 2010 10:06 AM

I do, but not because I want to, but because my CD- and DVD-player only plays "Japanese Versions". -.-

I really hate this, because they're so expensive sometimes...but whatever...!

Picaflor 7/4 15th June 2010 11:59 PM

oh wait, this is based on overseas or japan press? i thought it was based on first press or standard press.

sometimes.... although japan press is more expensive, i always get it if it comes with the extras over seas doesn't come with. and japan press kind of seems "truer" to me than getting overseas press. for example. only utada's japan press cds come with that super high quality glossy paper the booklets are made out of lol. overseas is standard paper. the few times a year i do buy something from japan, i want it to be top notch, to get the real bang for my buck.

i do think though that it's ludicrous that some people living in singapore, and china, and korea and whatnot only want japan press, which they have to order online when they can just walk to their nearest cd store and buy the press their store caries. Whereas living in america, my only option is to buy online, I don't get the luxury of walking to the jpop music store (I do have kinokuniya's but it's 2 hours away and ****ing expensive). but like i said, the few times i do buy anything online i just say "eh..what the hell, why not?" and buy japan press.

:yes on what I highlight in bold

yeah you share the same thoughts as me . I cannot understand why people must die die get everything Japan press , it's ridiculous & if not overpriced >_>

for me , I only get Japan press if the artiste I support do not have any OS press of their material & it just so happened that BREAKERZ doesn't have any to begin with xD

if not , I wait for a while for the OS press to pop up . It doesn't hurt & will not die in waiting for something reasonably priced to get :o

dreamland2.0 16th June 2010 04:48 AM

I like getting OS press for older releases and then buy Japan press for newer things.
It actually makes me really mad when there are no OS press things in stock on yesasia XD What about the poor people!!! XD
Also clearly they make an OS press for people Overseas to buy, and that equals me lol even if I'm not in Asia...

CHE.R.RY 18th June 2010 03:08 AM

I say no. As long as it's the real deal and everything is normal with it, then I don't care about the press.

Cherry Dynamite 18th June 2010 04:08 AM

Not really, Depends on how much money I have the time I want to buy something.

letter 26th May 2011 07:56 AM

It does. If the artist is Japanese, I order the album directly from Japan.

TeamAyu2004 27th May 2011 04:39 AM

Of course!
Not but Japan Press for me!

Kanzaki 27th May 2011 09:05 AM

Well, since my first Ayu cd was japanese press, I'm buying my other ones to match and for some reason it's just become a huge deal for me. It's not really that important though, now that I think about it.

bondingo 30th May 2011 10:58 PM

As much as I defend Overseas Versions because I think they're almost always the better option, I would prefer whatever the original press was in any situation if given the chance (and they were the same price). It all comes down to price in the end, but I'd prefer the Japanese press of a Japanese artist's album or the Korean press of a Korean's, etc.

Lady~Deviance 1st June 2011 02:10 AM

Not really. Despite that, 95% the Japanese albums I have are JP press. But, I either purchased them second hand (with their obi's) or on sale for dirt cheap. I refuse to pay full price for a Japanese press CD. In my humble opinion, no music CD is worth more than $15 regardless of who the artist is. :yes

Now in regard to "First Press", yes of course. Free bonuses are always a plus in my book. ;)

Delicious n Bold 1st June 2012 11:58 PM

For me, Japanese or nothing. When I heard that, with amazing speakers, the HK or Overseas press sounds like an iTunes rip, I was immediately turned off. I may never have quality speakers ever, but I won't pay for something that is lower quality.

jewelbox 2nd June 2012 02:02 AM

sometimes

Chibi-Chan 2nd June 2012 09:57 PM

Yes! I only buy japanese press
