hearing songs you know in foreign restaurants
 

I have no idea if this has been brought up before, I looked at the first like 4 pages and didnt see it and im not going through 140 pages to see :thud lol so sorry if this has been asked before BUT

Am I the only one who gets Really excited when I go to a foreign restaurant and hear a song I know? for example: my best friend and I went to a chinese buffet and while we were eating I hear " looolli looolli oh lollipop" and I was like :OMG "they are playing 2ne1 and Big Bang!!!!" and I started singing and dancing in my seat and of course my best friend just looked at me like I was crazy and called me a freak lol (she doesnt like foreign things..like at all) but I absolutley love that. I have never heard Ayu in a restaurant before but I think I would just about die lol anyway am I the only person who gets excited like this?

Yes! This has happened before; it's not a restaurant, though... I was in a store that sold some imported Japanese goods, and they were playing anime music and stuff, so I didn't really recognize any at first, but then... BAM! Ayu comes on! I screeched the minute I heard it, and some people stopped to stare, lol. The song was Depend on you, so I was able to sing along to myself quietly when I walked through the store XD The girl at the check out counter asked me if I liked Ayumi, and I said yes, so she showed me all of the Ayu goods they had that I didn't even notice before, lol. It was a great day, because I was able to get A Complete ~all singles~ :) So, no, you're not the only person who gets excited XD I freaked out and spazzed so much that day...XD

I've only had an experience like that once. I work at Whole Foods and of course they're always playing some music overhead. One day I suddenly snapped to attention knowing a song was so familiar, and it took a second to realize, but ayumi's connected came on. It was pretty neat, but of course I couldn't share with anyone lol.

I get so excited when that happens! People look but it's not as if I care, they don't know the song most of the time anyway. Usually its at a restaurant, asian store, rarely if ever on TV.

lol always when i'm in a japanese restaurant there's either Chihiro Onitsuka or Ayaka Hirahara playing in the backround :laugh

and one time even Ai Otsuka's 'Planetarium'.

I guess because there arent any around where i live, i always forget about asian stores and markets lol :p i love your stories! ^_^

I was in a japanese store with a friend of mine.
When she start to chit-chat with the store owner I start to looking for some manga and for a japanese book. Suddenly I hear a song from the nearest room and after few seconds I realize that was Secret by Ayu :heart I stayin' near the room smiling like a fangirl until the song is finished lol :D

:yes The Japanese restaurant/fast food shops here play Japanese songs. But i remember when it plays Kuu's Cutie Honey.. i started singing and imitating her moves on my seat. My friends went o__O "you're Japan freak!"

i went to PIM in jakarta once, and my family went to a japanese restaurant and they were playing namie's space of hip pop in their TV!

They play hikki's tito at borders...lol

well at least here...It happened to me twice in two different borders. The one in Walnut Creek and the one in Visalia.

Those are like 3 hours apart...so idk probably just a coincidence, but I thought it was funny.

One time I heard of Sambomaster's songs in a store. I sort of sang along =D

In my gym class last year during volley ball, we had the radio playing on the loud speakers in the gymnasium and we had some radio station on and Utada's CBTM came on, I freaked and just started singing. Then I got hit really hard in the face with a volleyball cause I was focused on utada lol. ~ouch~

I went to zenkaikon with my friends (small local anime convention) in november 2009. And we were in the dealer's room which is where you buy tons of japanese stuff and a very little bit korean/chinese stuff (they had ayu's my story, and classical but they were taiwanese versions and my story was cd only so I just walked away lol) and they had (don't even remember) first, a big bang song playing, then a 2ne1 song playing. I sung along a bit cause they weren't songs I really recognized but still it was kind of cool.

One time when I was at the mall with my friend, we went into the store Hot Topic and they started playing one of Gackt's songs. It was really cool, and I freaked out a little but. But now I don't remember which song it was..

I remember when i was in Bentouya, and they played this crappy Indonesian songs, then i complained.. "It's Japanese resto, please no Indonesian song!" and they changed it :laugh

I was in Shanghai, and I passed by this restaurant playing "Fly Like a Bird" - Mariah Carey :luv2 that was really pleasant.

also, I was in a store in Japantown, and they were playing a Big Bang CD :)

I have no personal exprience but one of my friends heard Utada Hikaru's Automatic playing in a finnish restaurant. She said it was pretty strange exprience considering asian artists aren't played on finnish radio stations or anything. :D

I've heard Ayu's Startin' on an Apple iTunes advert, but apart from that...nah

I haven't.... usually restaurant plays instrumental music :O At least in my case.

I live in Jakarta and sometimes when I go to Japanese restaurant they play famous Japanese songs such as Hikki's First Love or Toshinobu Kubota's LALALA Love Song (it's quite famous coz a local TV channel has aired the dorama Long Vacation in my country long time ago) I even heard YUI's Goodbye Days played in a restaurant.

The funny thing is, they added some Chinese songs into the playlist. I thought maybe they can't distinguish Japanese and Chinese songs LOL

sadly, I've never heard a song I know in a restraunt... TT_TT and probably never will...

Well only instrumentals to classic Mandarin songs....that's about it~

Some months ago I was in Vegas, dinning on Hyakumi (asian restaurant at Caesar's Palace) and suddenly JEWEL began playing... it was quite nice

in a japanese restaurant over here they played ayu's dearest and i was like OMFG *o*

I heard Ken Hirai's song, Pop Star, in a Japanese restaurant. I also heard Yuna Ito's Endless Story in the same restaurant, either before or after they played the Pop Star song.

I was once in Poland for vacation and I went into a store for electronic stuff like TV's and radios and they were playing Ayu's Connected. I was sooo excited to hear it there and my dad just thought I was crazy lol

in one night i heard DBSK's "Lovin You", Koda Kumi's "Can We Go Back", Tokyo Jihen's "Nodoteki Sanpunkan", Thelma Aoyama's "Soba ni iru ne", and even more ... i can't even remember.

Well...there's this Japanese ramen shop in my Japantown and they play a lot of Lady gaga :laugh I think they've only played JPOP once....it was some artist I never heard before.

Um, in the Nijiya market, they play ayu, utada, YUI, etc all the time. I like going shopping there :D.

Hahah, if there were any restaurants that played all Ayu music in my area, I'd go there every single day!
