Is Ayu's grandma alive?

I was watching Countdown 2005-2006 and saw this:
http://secsecae.multiply.com/video/item/255

At the end of the video Ayu comes up to a woman backstage (in a private room) and hugs her saying, thank you for your hardwork, granny!'

I thought her grandma died when she was recording poker face! :yconfused

Who is the woman?

JackieRos 1st July 2009 07:16 PM

she calls her granny but is not her real grandma

i heard that memorial address was dedicated to her real grandma
i think im so wrong

AyuHamasaki01 1st July 2009 07:26 PM

^I thought Memorial address was for her father D:

I was also confused about that. But perhaps she is just an old friend of the family??

I'm not sure who she but, but it's definitely not her grandma.

Her grandmother died the day she recorded poker face, didn't she? And that's why Ayu doesn't like that song and rarely performs it or something....

I know that Who... is supposed to be about her, since her grandmother practically raised her. I don't know about any other songs.

^ I think "ever free" is also about her.

Memorial Address is definitely about her father.

Yup. Her grandmother died the day Ayu recored poker face. Ayu actually found out before going into the recording room... that must've been hard :(

Just in the morning of recording Ayu’s debut single, her grandmother left her for ever.
Before Ayu came in the recordingroom, she received this unlucky news.

A Song for XX is for her mother i think?

really? her grandmother died when ayu was recording poker face...but then that gets me interested

every time she have a concert on april 8th...is she crying because of the fans or that it reminds her of her grandma's death?

murasakinohana 2nd July 2009 07:06 AM

she probably regards the person as her grandma, hence the title 'granny' came about.

I remember this too

Calico 2nd July 2009 11:03 AM

Also, I've neve rseen it, but does she say "granny" as in the english word or in Japanese and it was just translated? In Japan it is very usual to call elderly women "granny" as a term of endearment or their social relation,, whether or not they are biologically related. (hope that makes sense, it's my bedtime :laugh)

pommy48 2nd July 2009 11:06 AM

^ Yeah, it's the same in Chinese, I have to call people older than me sister or brother~

chloeM 2nd July 2009 11:50 AM

yea.. i watched one Documentary on Ayu saying that ayu lost her granny the Day she got her poker face done~

zyoeru 3rd July 2009 01:28 PM

Calico and pommy are right...she's probably saying granny like American's would say Ma'am and British say Miss. :P
Also...I read that A Song for XX refers to Ayu's move from Fukuoka to Tokyo? But I've also heard the story about her mother...she changed the lyrics for one of the compilations, right?

AyUta 3rd July 2009 08:57 PM

She's probably a real close friend to the family. :)

Just a bit of a refresh for this, the woman was not related to Ayu and is NOT her grandmother but has been seen in other videos like the "making of" for alterna serving food to the staff. I imagine she helped the staff out a lot and maybe was retiring that year perhaps?
