It sold better than sixxxxxx's first day and close to A ONE's, pretty nice. I'm curious who got #1 this time though
I still am wondering if having it available for streaming first boosted sales or decreased sales. It is hard to tell. It is selling somewhat similar to A ONE which is pretty good. But I can't help but wonder if releasing it the traditional way would have resulted in more sales. But it is only day one so we will see. I think Made In Japan will have a more positive reception than some of her recent releases.:luv2
The only reason I didn't like this new streaming first format is that the physical release day was so far from the streaming release.:no |
I'm surprised this came at #2. I wanted Ayu at #1 - instead, the one who's #1 are the IDOLM@STER Dream Girls - I mean, who are they? Vocaloids or something?
In fact, these girls were #1 in the singles last week...in a field that consisted of A.B.C-Z (a Johnny's group; I thought they would get #1!) and miwa - I'm pretty shocked! How in the world are they #1?! To be honest, though, I'm not sure if that early streaming might've helped or not... If that didn't happen, maybe the sales numbers could've gone a bit higher, but I'm not so sure... (Now, at first I had a thought of "don't let Kobukuro try to disrupt Ayu's sales," because Kobukuro had a daily #1 album ranking a few days back! And, yes, Keisuke Kuwata is releasing something new this week, the same week as Ayu - but unlike last time, Keisuke's releasing a single, not an album... But, yeah, I'm surprised about the IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, and not Ayu, taking #1 in the albums for now, and even then I was surprised they were #1, and not A.B.C-Z (they were #3), in the singles last week... This makes me wonder whether the Cinderella Girls' single last week was a prelude to this week's album...) |

is it really so surprising though? she hasn't been relevant for a long time now, and her record sales haven't been doing well. if anything, i would have thought it would be MORE surprising if she had surpassed her sales in the last 3 years with this release. important to note that quality of music and popularity are 2 entirely different things.

so today sales is less than 4,5K?
:no :no sad
It's doing exactly like A ONE :laugh
A ONE also fell to #4 after 2nd day... they're so even, which isn't bad at all. |
Looks like she will battled with ohara sakurako for position 2 and 3...I hope she will enter top three though
I think the most important thing about Ayu's new albums now is the longevity. Maybe she can't reach 30k in the first week, but in 11 weeks she will reach 53k.
A ONE put up a really big fight to sustain itself on Oricon last year . I really hope M(A)DE IN JAPAN can follow suit as frankly it deserves to
I guess album will have decent sales throughout the tour, I think many will buy the album there to have chance on signed poster/Stage tour

And yes, there are three CDs to be released, each for one of the three main attributes each of the idols has in the game. And last week's topping CD from the same game was only a single, not a whole album. |
Yeah, not really surprised about the numbers and ranking. It's designed to appeal to her fanbase so the numbers will be around the same as A One. Nothing to offer those who aren't fans already.

And, seriously, how could Sakurako Ohara be AHEAD of Ayu??? I mean, I don't understand about it... |
Cause Ohara Sakurako is popular?? It's simple...
Made in japan is climbing up the iTunes album chart tho it's #2 now |
I just want MADE IN JAPAN to cross 50k, that would mean no drop in sales since CoLOURS, which I think is more important at this point of her career...
I'm gonna be more than happy if it sells past 40k on the long run tbh
IDOLM@STER Dream Girls are very popular in recent times
When they came to my country to perform last year for an anime festival , their concert segment on the day when it happened was the only time when tickets were completely sold out |
Not bad...
Does Oricon count the copies sold by TeamAyu? If not, then I can understand more the low sales, because this time the album comes with the TA Tour, so more people will buy the album with TeamAyu. |
As far as I know sales through mu-mo donīt count because itīs a record-lable-shop.
I think many people also ordered album at the venue
Oh it went up, nice!

All TA versions are in those sales. |

3 for today with just 2032 sales...
I think it's sold around 3k yesterday... so in total MIJ sold around 24k so far |
maybe the sales will be close to 28-30k for the first week?
i think the AWA RELEASE 2 months earlier has a major influence. she wont sell more than 28 thoussand
Maybe close to 28k copies by the end of the week could be a reality? :)
it's gonna sell a lot less than A ONE, that's for sure :no
edit - A ONE sold 34 692, so M(A)DE IN JAPAN might be around 30k |
I think it's fine, she probably got paid for AWA, though I wish they'd have taken more advantage of the momentum she was beginning to gain with A ONE.

Album debuts at #2 with 30k! This is her 50th album to reach the Top 10, making her the female artist with the most Top 10 albums!
http://music-book.jp/music/news/news/120810 |
Same as Sixxxxxx, well done!:love
Queen still breaking records. Good sales!
Nice, she's still breaking records! :heart
I don't worry too much about sales. It's fun when albums sell well but as long as the fans are listening and buying I am happy.:thumbsup
It seems like even newer more popular artists don't sell as much anymore. |
#2 with 30k is pretty amazing for the first week, I must say. :yes Well done, ayu! :heart
Whoa, she did barely held off Sakurako Ohara...maybe not #1 to the virtual girls of IDOLM@STER, but still - congratulations!
that's amazing that she still able to break records!
AMAZING! still setting new records :)
50 albums???
Probably including remix (orchestra, classical, upbeat) and compilation albums. Also, singles like A are considered LPs.
#2 with 30,269 copies sold. Really close to sixxxxxx's first week (30,988)!!
what a great number! That's unbelievable that 4 albums are so close to each other
Colours, A ONE, sixxxxxx and now MIJ |
strong and steady, nice =)
Nice ! :D
six was a mini mij is a full length album. it aint good...

^yap. im happy for her record though. its just sad to see her putting so much effort into it and it wont sell that much as aone. or even colours. nevertheless, it gets positiv reviews so im happy anyway!
i thought ayu was getting more attention since she has been more everywhere than last two years but maybe people are listening to her via AWA and iTunes, at least i hope so! it's sad to see my queen getting this low sales :no although i stopped purchasing her releases right after Zutto... / Last minute / Walk so who am i to blame

Here's a list of Ayu's top 10 albums... Spoiler:
The RMX WORKS series (which debuted at #13, #14, and #18), LOVE CLASSICS (#16), and Winter diary ~A7 Classical~ (#11) are the only releases that didn't break the top 10, so they didn't make the list. This list also doesn't count the reissue of A BEST (which debuted at number 9). |
I didn't realize RMX works didnt make top 10
Was that a big deal at the time? Lol |
Any form of record that Ayu kept on setting/breaking as each year goes by is always a good thing
It's unfortunate M(A)DE IN JAPAN 1st week sales are even lower than A ONE as for once I wished it would have been higher as it deserves so :x For now , let's see if M(A)DE IN JAPAN will have a long run on Oricon like what happened with A ONE |
I mean, she barely held off Sakurako Ohara by less than 2,000 copies...
http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/ja/w/2016-07-11/ |
it depends on the future album releases if miJ has a long run. i remember last year there were barely any new released albums after a one. therefore it was so steady. oricon would have stopped after some weeks. we had plenty weeks were she sold 500 copies. so if theres good competition than we wont see a long run like aone had, unfortunately
I wonder how many times her album has been listened in AWA. At least Spotify shows you the amount of plays per song. Anyone in AWA here?
True longevity lol.
iirc Colours charted only 9 weeks so that might be MIJ's case as well :no sad to see album this good to get so low sales, A ONE was shit and sold better than this
Aw I still think A ONE is a solid album with a few issues, same as MIJ. But it's difficult to see this represent her sales when it's been out so long.
Well, only 10k people added the album to favourites on AWA so I don't think it made that much of a difference
10k is a lot for her nowadays lol.
^ I'm pretty sure the majority of those people are her fans though and bought the album anyway haha especially considering the such a huge number of plays..
I'm pretty satisfied with sales! I thought it will get only 35k
Overall I prefer A ONE to MIJ as a whole. As much as I like the first 3 tracks, besides Summer Love and MCM I find myself skipping thru the other 4 tracks. On A1 I only avoided The Gift.
Why are people surprised at this....
According to Nikkei, the album has been streamed 2.4million times via AWA.
#34 today. 2nd week already out of top 30? :tired
Quote:
These are good sales! Very proud of Ayu. Hope she does a bit more TV promo for next album though.
Quote:
MIJ is a really good album and an incredibly refreshing one because all the songs are actually good this time. Plus, looking at the other female artists' sales nowadays she is doing relatively well even with all the bad press she got over the years. I mean my worst fear is that she'll end up like Ami Suzuki-like sales tho Ami's decline is another story... |
Rise to #23 today.
Quote:
Despite all that, this album has great music and lyrics. Ayu just don't promote herself anymore and her sales will continue to decline as a result. |
great, it's rising!
#13 today!
Why she stopped doing TV performance when she obviously need at least once for promotion? Do performer have to pay to be on TV? Oh those good old days on 2007 when she's on every music shows to promote A BEST 2
^ Yeah I wish she'd do at least one or two tv performances per release, not asking for too much ):
Quote:
It doesn't make sense to me why she'd perform on Music Station for a re-release of A Best but not a new studio album.
The target audiences for an original studio album and a best-of compilation album are very different.
#16 today!
Quote:
She was forgive for that Music Station incident right?
But it still seems like her reputation went down a lot with music shows. |
^ Yes, I think she was forgiven since she performed there after that!
What Music Station incident?
Quote:
tldr: drama llamas everywhere |
IIRC, the beloved incident was the 2nd one. She was stuck in the US because of flight issues.
First one was maybe Xmas 2008/2009 when she broke her hand? However, things are okay now. Must be a 'set' thing where you have two strikes and are blacklisted for a bit. Nowadays, I think she just doesn't want to appear on TV. It's a conscious decision on her part more than the shows not liking her. Also a lot of the shows she used to be on aren't around anymore. |
wasn't it something like her whole crew couldn't be able to get to flight they were meant to fly so she decided to stay with them instead of going to perform without every single crew member or something like that
Oh, I didn't even know there were two incidents...
