Directors and their works with Ayu (PVs, CMs, etc.)
This thread is here to help those who might have questions about what directors Ayu has worked with over the years.
PVs: Spoiler:
CMs: Spoiler:
SPECIAL SCREENS: Spoiler:
OTHER: Tsuki ni Shizumu - Isao Yukisada Huge thanks to monochrome for a lot of these. |
Yaaaay! All this awesomeness in one place; I like having these things organized.
I think generally Wataru Takeishi is one of my all time favourite directors, along with Hideaki Sunaga. I certainly wish both of them did more of her videos in the present; not that I have any real complaints about the directors that work with her now, just that I really like those two :D |
My favorite would have to be Kouki Tange. The man just knows what to do with Ayu, haha.
1) Kouki Tange 2) Wataru Takeishi / Tetsuo Inoue 3) Hideaki Sunaga And that is my top 3 (4), aha. |
Tetsuo Inoue is also really really brilliant! I have no complaints about any of the PVs he's done.
Kouki Tange was pretty good, though he hasn't done that much; though what he has done has been brilliant. |

Added director of 7 days Special videos.
ayumi hamasaki Rock'n'Roll Circus FINAL 7days Special Tour SPECIAL SCREENS - Masashi Muto |
Kouki Tange likes to make creepy videos, huh? But interesting :p
I like it all~ |
Wataru Takeishi filmed all the most expensive videos of ayu. He's my favourite. I'm sad he doesn't work on ayu's new stuff.
|
Updated with all the FIVE PVs. Jeez, this is old, haha.

Kouki Tange's PVs, even only 3, are prolly the best PVs in all of Japan LOOL |
my favorite is takahide ishi
|
I could have SWORN hbya was Leslie's work...then again...he probably would have told Ayu to wear another wig lol
|
Masashi Muto tends to be her new Wataru Takeishi lol :laugh
|
Oi, I need to update this.
|
yay it's up to date now~!

Ive noticed this trend with Wataru Takeishi's work:
ayu looks nice in the videos but hardly anything happens. |
He also directs CMs and stuff, so it's not surprising. He also has done a lot of her story videos that Ayu is known for which imo counts for more than her 'sitting pretty' PVs. The ones who have the PVs where THINGS ARE HAPPENING ALL THE TIME are Kouki Tange, Hideaki Sunaga, and maybe Tetsuo Inoue. Kouki for sure if you look at his other works with artists, since he tends to make PVs into short films, not just videos. (http://mabataki.co.jp/ for his design work and http://www.yellow-brain.com/blog/ for PV work and so on)
Though now that I think about it, most videos for artists that don't dance or anything just have them looking pretty, or singing while other people looking pretty in cutscenes. |
Kouki Tange has made her best PVs (ourselves, Because of You and alterna),
and I'm in love with Ichirou Tani's work. His TU-KA CMs are so dark and futuristic, almost cyberpunk-like. And Leslie Kee should stick to photography. :P |
I think Tetsuo Inoue and Hideaki Sunaga are the closest we will get to Kouki, especially now that he's stopped activities for now, I think.
|
Updated, I think.

Can A Crew just not exist
I don't understand |
My top 3:
1) Kazuyoshi 'Shimoko' Shimomura: Undoubtedly he has directed some of her better pv's, save for Lady Dynamite. 2) Kouki Tange: He hasn't done much, which is a shame. He gave us alterna, so he has to be on the list. 3) Tetsuo Inoue: He directed some of the more "out of the box" pv's for ayu. His work is brilliant. Honorable mentions: 1) Hiromitsu Odagami: I absolutely loved the ''for my dear...'' PV. I think if ayu were to worked with him more, he could have given us more artistic/symbolic PV's. |
