Agree! Really would love it to see a full perfomance of Sakura and Untitled for her... story 2 (though I don't think we'll ever see it live) & Sweet Scar. Imo LOVE again is such a great album (beside the shitty mini thing) but as always there are many great songs unperfomed like Guilty etc..

kinda annoyed that love n hate is a staple on the set. probably one of my least favourite ayu songs ever.

It's so funy reading the songs everyone wants to hear. I agree with some of them, but most are among the one I would never want to hear lol.

Based on her current voices, if she sings certain old songs, that would be a criminal scene from Law and Order.

I'd like to see a performance of Moments... I know it would probably sound kinda different with her current voice, but I love this song just too much.

Random question that I don't necessarily remember noticing or not: have they been changing the register of her older songs to fit her new voice?

I noticed majority of the songs released between A Song for xx - I am... have been sung in a lower register live except for a few (Boys & Girls, SEASONS and Who...)

Newer songs that were recorded with a higher register such as Progress, Missing and The Show Must Go On are sung lower

It's not even that for me, because some of her songs actually sounds nicer in her deep voice too! But Liar, Criminal and It Was are like the trifecta of heavy, mopey songs for me and everyone here LOVES them. They were always weak points on their respective albums to me (that said I don't hate them, and don't think they are awful). For heavy sounding songs, I'd much prefer something powerful and emotional like Still Alone.

Yep. I've noticed that too, and it was really evident from Cirque de Minuit onwards, but I'm pretty sure that started even before that.

Do you feel differently about the Island Mix of It Was? Honestly it's soooo good. It changes the feel of the song completely, and really highlights the melancholic vibe of the lyrics (as well as her vocal quality and tone).

I'd rather her be able to sing it than struggle to hit the notes. In a perfect setting she might be able to hit the high notes, but it just isn't as reliable as it used to be. So a constant lower register is better imo.

I would suggest her stop singing M with her current voice. When she sings "Maria" sounds very strange with her current voice..But I found her current voice fits Connected very well but her old voice was not really good for the song.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who noticed it. I mean, it would make sense. Her register is different now so they should fit the music to match it, yeah? But it's not such a huge difference that I just wanted to ask around and make sure I wasn't the only one who noticed.

I'm not the biggest fan of the TA shirts tbh but the rest is quite good! I love the one that she uses for We are the QUEENS ~ Real Me section (it is from that section right? Cuz of the head microphone). From what I see it looks odd the way it suits Ayu and with her chest but that probably just looks the way on photos... As we know photos often don't do their full justice.

Speaking of leaked TA tour photos I wonder how they managed to take illegal photos in such a small and security heavy venue...
It's her biggest hit, not happening. It sounds not weirder than any other song, especially if she's in a good shape like in M + Last minute MS performance.

The outfits look more as arena tour's outfit than intimate concert's outfit like TA. They are good except maybe the red jacket one?

When she sang M during TA tour last year (it didn't make the final cut) it was really, really good. She sang it lower, and in a more rock-y version, kind of similar to PoM. She did not sound strained at all. I may have enjoyed that performance more than when I saw her at CDL 04-05 and she sang it.

The only songs she sounded strained in to me were Heartplace (slightly) and cutesy songs like Summer Diary.

I honestly haven't listened to this in forever, so I had to just go listen again. It's not bad (none of the songs I mentioned are), it's just...completely forgettable. I can see what you're saying, but I think it doesn't quite appeal to my sense of melancholy. Obviously ever free is like her most perfect example ever. But I think she captured melancholy best around Duty...Scar, and even to a lesser extent, Key, really capture melancholy for me (yes, even though Key is a pseudo-happy song).

Despite the fact that there are a LOT of songs that I like from each of them, (mis)understood and Secret feel very over-produced, and such a moment-in-time for me.

I like seeing her with high knee boots, but that skirt not working for me. That white dress seems like her outfit from last year TA, when she sang Beloved... if I'm not mistaken.

FINALLY!!! I loved every outfit tbh! That black mini dress is perfect for her body <3 And I loved the looks with the official tshirt! Really cute. That pink/beige dress is ok, nothing that stands out but ok. She's really sweating in these photos lol

As for the TA outfits... meh? That's it? Well ok then. I like both plain Tshirt outfits, because that is exactly how I would dress myself if I attended the concert (minus the hat) But surely she should ditch the stylist who thought that sexy outfit was a good idea. Don't get me wrong, I love a good sexy, but that outfit looks rather sexy-tacky-cheap than gorgeous sexy-she is the boss.

And don't even get me started on that jacket. It is not the 80's?! Come on.

Late to the party here, I attended the Oct. 18th concert at ZeppDiverCity Tokyo, got ticket 54 needless to say up close and personal but it was sooooooooo hot in the standing only section with everyone jamming in closer and closer, whew I was sweating a ocean.
I was totally shocked at the lack of foreigners (attending this concert considering it was such a rare opportunity to attend an Ayumi Concert. I flew in from San Francisco area, I honestly thought beforehand it would be 75% Japanese 25% foreigners, turned out to be about 99% Japanese 1% foreigners.
What been the ratio at other venue's (rough estimate?)

Leslie is the only few photographers who can capture the best moments from different people, no matter where they are from. There are not many photographers can do that in the world.

The jacket is too big, lol.

Leslie does good work, but he is a bit too perverted with male models for most people, haha.

I went to the 19th show at the Odaiba Diver city Zepp and I have to say that ayu was amazing. Just got back from Japan yesterday so I didn't have a chance to say anything.
I still can't believe I saw her and it was so spontaneous. lol.

Anyway I didn't expect her to sound so good live. I was one of the people that thought that her vocals started to become tired from all the touring, and thus expected her to not sing well in some songs, but how I was surprised, she sang really well and was on point 95% of the show (if not more), I was amazed.

The first thing I thought is that she is so tiny, and when she stood near Timmy she looked so small, lol. She had good energy and I was surprised at some of the songs that popped up since I didn't see this tour's setlist yet!
Anyway I thought that the live, at least on that day, was great and really fun to attend to, I wish I could be on the 1st floor though but can't complain since I got a ticket like 30 mins before the show :P.

Vocally she was amazing that I swear that even people who hate her vocals nowadays would be proud of her. Just saying. She had really good (vocals) day on the 19th.

Youre referring to the pic with the black bra with a meshtop over it, right? she wore that from We are the queens up to when she disappeared for Jump.

I too am amazed that someone managed to take such good pics in that kind of venue. The employees and security are like hawks I swear.

^ Aren't those official pictures? I don't think it's fanmade or someone took this without anyone noticing. As far as I know, it's official pictures for the press and they sell them outside the venue. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The pictures sold on YAJ or at carts outside the venue are usually unofficial and taken from the audience. Unsure how they do it all the time for J-artists (not just Ayu) without getting caught though.

The dress was for the acoustic bit. I think the dress in the picture is a little different from the one for the Osaka shows I attended. It didnt have a belt, and I dont think it had a tube top. Sorry, I was too busy staring at her shoes lol. Her hair is also styled better in the picture.

Sorry, but I'm very sceptical here. We have a recording of another Osaka show and she sounded really bad. I highly doubt that she could sound amazing few days later.

To be honest what Tal described was exactly how I and a few of my friends felt when we've seen her live the first time. I still feel that way after attending 6 concerts. She does shout sometimes in certain songs, but it's not like she shouts in every single song. She also tends to shout when the music is extremely loud. It's not as bad as you are constantly trying to make it seem. My boyfriend attended one of the CDM dates with me and he said that he was pleasantly surprised and not just visually as he expected a lot in that department, but he said that vocally, considering the way she sings which isn't that conventional for western singers (as he doesn't listen to jpop), she sounds really good. There is also the fact that you are there and even when she shouts she sounds 10 x more powerful than on any recordings. The atmosphere gets you. I still think that live she does sound really good :)

This. I did not imply she was perfect and all songs sounded vocally flawless, but I would have to lie if I would say she wasn't vocally great during most of that concert. Even more than great.

People can be skeptical but if you weren't there you can't judge, unlike people who were actually there.
And you just cannot compare recordings with actually hearing it live, but yeah I have to admit that because of such recordings I was afraid that she would be not so vocally good live, but I was surprised for the better.

Actually I think ayu sounded better for Osaka first day than the third one- music was rather loud most of the time. when the music wasn't screaming, she sounded so much better since she didn't have to fight with the music. Best moments were acoustic versions!

I will also back this up. After A+Nation last year (2015), I was really worried about going to the 2015 TA Tour. And then I was blown away. I'll even dare say she overall did a better job than when I saw her at CDL 04-05 when she had a "better" voice.

But even with that CDL -- I thought the live I went to was better than what was broadcast. It's certainly true that the acoustics of a venue are also extremely important. But to anyone that wants to criticize, all of the mixing is optimized for the people who are actually in the venue. Any release by any artist is going to be re-mixed before officially being released, and a camera is not going to capture the audio levels properly. You need to be pulling directly from the mixing board controls for that, which live broadcast and cellphone recordings are never going to do.

Does Ayu have a perfect voice? No, we all know that. Do I wish she could struggle less with staying on key and hitting the right notes? Sure. But almost no artist has the same voice 20 years into the game as when they started, if they're even lucky enough to still be singing. Her vocals can be hit or miss at times, but she can 100% still hit them.

Oh hell yes I can. Recordings are even more reliable than actual live because during the show the sound is too loud and you are distracted by the visuals. Recordings show all flaws. After attending so many concerts I have a very good idea about her vocal abilities.
And you didn't answer my question about shouting.

Poor Ayu. If she has laryngitis it can stick around for up to 2 weeks. I often lose my voice for 2-3 weeks when I get it. I hope she has time to rest her body and her vocals, she does too much.

I don't think they'll cancel just one concert. There's no way she can recover in time for the other ones.

I just had a terrible bronchitis and it took me over 2 weeks to recover. I can't imagine someone going through that and still pulling a concert..

No you can't. Let's take Curtain call for example.

It's one of the songs she had a great vocals in and the sound wasn't too loud and what visuals exactly distracts anyone is such a song, especaily when you are not in the front rows and can't see ayu just near you?
The verses in songs like Real me or In The Corner are not so loud as well and she did great singing them.

She DOES shout or can't hit notes from time to time but regardless she still sounded great during most of that show.
And I still don't understand how can recordings be more reliable. Visuals and loudness has to do nothing with it. On the contrary, recordings can be so distorted that it can sound worse than it really is.

But anyway, that's not something I'm going to argue from my experience. From what I heard on that evening, her vocals were pretty good. Others are welcome to have their own opinions. :)

I think ayu is just one of the ones who needs to be in the right condition, she does have some things which lead to her voice being not 100%, like her ear, and her over working effort, which she will usally get ill now once a year from overworking. But she even was improving, with her vocal training. But phone recodings are never something to go by. Yes shes not 100% perfect, but shes no where near as bad as she sounds in phone recodings, recoding a song from the tv or the radio with your phone, its sounds just as bad, and you dont go saying how terrible that person sounds just from a phone record :P

Yeah, people from the other Nagoya dates said she did not sound good, so this isn't really a surprise. I doubt only this date will be canceled though. I'm scheduled for one of her shows in November, so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Next show will be on Halloween. I had big hopes for it. Maybe she was going to wear something interesting...

She could just add the extra date in November, similar to last year.

But she needs to be careful her voice, it is her asset to make money.

I personally think it would be better for her to cancel all the shows and focus on the Countdown Live coming up. This way she can heal from her illness, heal her voice, re-energize, and really prepare for the show.

Loud sound of the show is distorted, so you can judge better when you listen to recoding with normal volume, you can pick up much more nuances this way. Also you can rewind anytime to take a better listen. When you are viewing the show you're losing half of your attention to what's going on in front of you, you're too excited to judge in a proper way.





I disagree. Blaming audio quality is just an excuse to defend an artist:-)
Even low quality mono phone recording unless it's not distorted (and it wasn't) can easily show if a person is hitting the notes or not, singing or shouting.
Of course the better the quality the better for ears, but that's not the point.
Besides I have tons of high quality recordings of her shows and they represent how she really sounds perfectly fine. If I uploaded her bad day vocals, what excuse would you find? It can't get better than recording made by professional device:-P

I agree with ayumisrael and the others. No phone can record a concert with a perfect sound because it's impossible that the mic catches each waves perfectly without compressing them. That's the reason why the sound of a concert is rework based on each source/mic(vocal, guitar, drum, etc) to create the dvd and not on the recording of only one source somewhere in the hall.
Besides no music critic who respects his/her job, will judge the quality of a singer's vocal on a recording made among the crowd with a phone or tablet.

She said that ayu wasn't on stage for NaNaNa and Tell all…
NaNaNa was Timmy and the dancers and Tell all was just the dancers
