count down?

i just sat down and read the lyrics to count down, and wow. i'm blown away, i didn't think i liked the song too much at first but after really listening to it it's one of my favorites.

does anyone else think it's about her left ear and maybe how she felt at the time she found out she was going to be deaf in that ear forever?

I hear some distant sound
You see? The end will begin soon
I'll accept it as it is
On my left side

ownsarai 28th April 2010 06:44 AM

I'm pretty certain it is about her ear, judging from the lyrics. It is a pretty powerful, meaningful song.

Andrenekoi 28th April 2010 06:44 AM

Yeah, people pretty much discussed this a lot since the song first came out x,x

majrakun 28th April 2010 06:57 AM

count down is my favourite song too, tied with Last Links, and beats other popular choices like Microphone and Sexy little things for me. It's so emotional, this is the type of rock I love from Ayu. It's not as polished as Microphone, it feels more like Memorial address.

A lot of people are pretty sure that she's talking about her left ear, some even noted that there's a sound in the background that's used in ear tests.

panda♥ 28th April 2010 07:03 AM

same with me, maj. it's probably count down, Last Links and then SLT or something.

sorry if this is a repeat discussion, i didn't see a topic on it but i guess it was discussed in the album thread. :P

Even before reading the lyrics, this was the first song on the album I instantly connected with. I believe the emotion she is trying to convey comes across perfectly in this song. The whole thing is just bliss to me, start to finish. Knowing it means so much to her personally just makes it all the better.

hidarigawa means not only "left side" but it is used as "heart" as well. So this song is NOT about her ear problem, just put "heart" instead "left side" into translation and you'll see ^__^

this is right.. the lyrics would sound very awkward if she actually mean it the way you put it panda.

JackieRos 28th April 2010 05:48 PM

yeah it was said it was about her left ear

I love the lyrics of this song

Ayumi_lover 28th April 2010 06:09 PM

^^ where it was said? AHS discussions is not an official thing

JackieRos 28th April 2010 06:11 PM

in the RnR threads, official or not I think it's true

I don't think "on my left side" sounds awkward at all. Plus your heart is on the left side of your chest, so she could still be talking about her ear.

The build up right before the chorus is so perfect. Right how "Atashi wa~" starts and you can really feel the emotion coming from her while singing this song.
Quote:

Atashi wa warau wake de mo naku wake de mo nai
Tada zetsubou nanka haruka ni toorisugita kara
Mu ni natte shimatta dake na no nannimo kanji nai no

I don't laugh nor cry
I experienced despair so much in the past
That I became empty, I feel nothing
Then it turns into this kind of march build-up during "Tada zetsubou nanka haruka..." that really sent me the message she was singing at that part in the song. I had read that count down was about her "left side" and breezed over the lyrics translation before listening to the song for the first time. The emotion during that part of the song really hit me. The message is so clearly portrayed without me even understanding/trying to translate her words.
Quote:

Anata wa nan no mayoi mo naku iikitta wa
Ittai are ga nani o sashita kotoba datta ka nante
Sonna koto wa daiji ja nai no motto hoka ni aru no

You said so with no hesitation
It's not important what on earth it meant
There is something more important
Again, these emotions and this part of the song really goes well with the way she is choosing to sing during this piece of the build-up.

I have begun to like count down more and more. At first I just couldn't get into the chorus, as it disappointed me. But lately it's the one song that sticks in my head, and I find myself wanting to listen to it more and more. I know most of the words even! Lol.

i guess i've been beaten though, lol. :irked

I thought the beeps sounded more like alarms that signal when a "count down" has run out of time, haha.

That's... kind of what the sounds in hearing tests sound like, though, haha. Like I said in the thread for the lyrics, the sounds stay with you FOREVER. :shakehead

I still think it's about her ear, nothing will change my mind about it.

Yes. Plus, it makes the song more special to me, since I'm deaf in my right ear, so I can relate to 'count down' really well. :|

I know, but some alarms are sort of like that too, haha.
