I just died a little, in a horrible way.

That's quite sad there... (planning to de-activate ayaka in my artist list soon, maybe next week)

I just have to feel sorry about it. We don't know what will happen, but I hope they do well on their future...

Now that's not necessarily true!

Management company is NOT your distributor. If they're still releasing her music through Warner Music or any other large company, she'll still be a major artist. Management does NOT influence this.

the same thing applies to other artistes who have separate management & record labels

like EXILE , Namie . Only their material's released via avex but their management teams are different with EXILE having their own one & Namie is managed by Vision Factory

I think this is good news! They're still working on her career, which means she hasn't given it all up completely.

What other major label artists manage themselves independently though?

Some of PS Company artists are still under PS Company management, but are signed to major companies. Utada Hikaru is managed by herself and her father.

DREAMS COME TRUE manages themselves independently I think, because they have their own record label DCTRecords which is part of Universal Music Group

That's a relief to hear; thanks for the info.

The fact that ayaka said in that letter that she would be managing her own music under that company her and Hiro are starting makes me excited because it makes it sound like there's a comeback around the corner. Still I wouldn't mind if she rested another year, she deserves it.

I've been listening to her since '07 and although that's a relatively short period of time (not really in the Jpop world I guess) her music has been timeless for me and also I kind of want all the hype of her break to be, you know, worth it.

hopefully this means more freedom for music :) and i hope she's healing well
