AKB48 breaks multiple records again; "Beginner" sells 827,000 copies in its 1st week

I don't really know what to think of the comments on "the single market is coming back into prosperity." Aside from Arashi and AKB48, EVERY ELSE's singles are selling less each and every year. I guess in total these high sellers make the numbers seem positive, but if everything else keeps on falling I think you can hardly say it's a good development.
Anyway, that's just me analyzing. Happy for the girls! |
Yay ^.^ I'm happy they beat ARASHI.
|
I heard the song...I'm speechless that they could sell this much but if its due to handshaking events and marketing I'm slightly relieved. Then again Arashi sell a ton without these events no? I'm not cheering for any of them anyhow, lol.
|
If I remember correctly the handshake event tickets were only in the first press.
|
Congrats to the girls! Such amazing news.
Not to be rude though, but do we really need another thread when we have one about the preorder sales here and then the artist thread for them? |
^No I'm sorry.....lol but it's so monumental.....:P
Plus we have like 10 kpop threads by the month in the Asian Music Chat section I don't see that much harm xP |
^ Hahaha, that's true. Single of the year 2010 deserves the attention.
And I agree with Nackar about the whole "re-energizing the market" thing. When's the last time Ayu, who many still consider a J-Pop queen, sold over even 250k or so? I think AKB have just tapped into something special and all of Japan seems to be eating it up (and I can't blame them). No idea why they still (or ever) buy from Arashi though. |
LOL I think another thread is called for. It is a big deal afterall. :D Still so happy about this. :heart But I third Nacker on the industry thing. When a solo artist or a non-idol group with less than 5 people can sell in the 500K+ range again THEN I'll think the industry is back on the rise.

Has AKB always done the handshake events though? From the way it sounds over at S48, the next single seems to be the first one where the RE will be without the tickets but it'll also be the first one with more than two regular types so we'll see if it has an significant effect (if at all) on sales or evens out. The next single will probably benefit off of the hype from Beginner though so we may not be able to even tell. XD |
wow. they do really reviving the music industry.. :yes
oh, and what's ayu's 2-streak record of selling singles more than 500k copies in the 1st week? |

Congratulations to them. Beginner is probably their best song (even though number-wise for me it's success is overrated since I don't find anything special in it even though it's nice). I prefer this over their older songs though which I don't listen to. Nevertheless congratulations to them. :D |
Am I the only one who finds this song nothing special and a bit boring after listening two times to it? XD
|
^yes
xD |

To be honest though, I HATE pretty much all of their output with a passion, but this song I can actually listen to! It's good a nice groove and climax, not just the standard girlgroup SQUEAKSQUAKKAWAIIII-fare. I think I'd even like it if it weren't sung by a bazillion young girls. |
^I'm not alone! XD
|
Well, she fact that the PV was not alouded to be showed on TV or something like that may have played a good part on this... Considering that right now the only way to watch the video is by buying the single
|
^That version of the PV was not included on the single either. The only way to see the original is to buy it on Recochoku
