Nothing. They were already super popular in Asia (including Japan) before they officially debuted in Japanese.

they have a huge fanbase in not only korea but all over the world. their success most likely comes from them being young, hot, and amazing entertainers/hard workers. there are also 9 of them in the group and that gives them more of a chance to appeal to more people. there are some people who only like one member but still support them and buy their cds.

me myself don't understand about this phenomenon...
i just doesn't get it...what i just can do is support what i like as hard as i can...

butterfly_ayu 6th November 2010 06:54 AM

probably catchy songs and good promotion I guess. and k-pop is the trend in asia now.

emi♡ 6th November 2010 07:14 AM

just another one of those group things you know?

Hot pop group...is there a japanese equivalent that is popular atm?

miroro 6th November 2010 11:16 AM

groups are popular now
korean music is popular now
the girls have amazing voices, amazing dancing skills..
and like identity said, there's 9 girls, so they can appeal to everyone.

and because they're amazing. :laugh

TofuBunny 6th November 2010 11:32 AM

^^ AKB48 I guess, they're as popular in japan as SNSD is in Korea.

^ couldn't have worded that better :laugh

Well besides the fact that K-pop is trendy in Japan right now, they already had a dedicated fan base in Japan, their showcase was completely sold-out even before their official debut :yes
Also, if you watch their Japanese shows, you'll notice how most of their Japanese fans are teenage girls who look up to them and like to cosplay as them.

Plus they're gorgeous, funny, talented, and each one is different in her own way :heart
If you try to get to know them you'll see why they're so popular

btw can we stop with the random "why is kpop popular" threads ? It only gives chances for people to make rude comments about it .. All this hate is giving me a headache

They always remind me of non-Japanese Perfume x3. As for their popularity, I think their Gee MV is explanation enough :yes

ExodusUK 6th November 2010 11:48 AM

Teenage looking girls in short skirts and what not. What else is needed?

Twinkle ! 6th November 2010 03:20 PM

the flawlessness was enough to make them so poplar in japan . :yes

hearted 6th November 2010 03:21 PM

i guess their girlpower? :P + their catchy songs :heart

NintendoHTF1242 6th November 2010 04:05 PM

They make really catchy songs. Plus they're all very pretty and talented at singing and dancing. Now if only they would write their own music...

hearted 6th November 2010 05:23 PM

^they do actually! not all of it.. but yuri wrote Mistake from their latest mini :yes

in a few recent interviews they said it's their goal to release an album with a song written by each of them, and to compose too. both Yuri and Tiffany wrote a song for their new mini album (unfortunately they only let one get in, and only picked Yuri's lyrics and Tiffany's lyrics didn't make it). so in the future hopefully they will write more of their stuff :yes

NintendoHTF1242 6th November 2010 05:34 PM

Oh that's good to hear. Most people seem to dislike them because they're just "puppets" or "machines" rather than artists (well, people I know here IRL lol)

Raiu-Ayu 6th November 2010 06:05 PM

I really don't think that there is anything special about them. It's just that K-Pop and girl groups are two big trends now and SNSD combines both. I've never really liked them (not my style I guess) but that doesn't mean I'm bashing them before anyone starts

Mirai Noah 6th November 2010 06:43 PM

Because their music is catchy and they are talented, pretty girls. :)
