How do you feel when an artist you love releases a bad song?

And I mean a really bad song that is really disappointing.
How does that make you feel?

Nackar_91 16th November 2010 11:45 AM

I shrug it up, and move on. That's it, basically. Artists are free to do what they like and if I don't appreciate their experimentation or straying from the formula, that's my problem. If I think a song is lower quality than a previous one, I might discuss it but I won't go on a forum and spew gall over it and claim "omfg he/she's lost his/her magic what has become of him/her blablabla".

I ignore it, basically XD

Haha, I'm pathetic. Usually I turn to "totally in denial" behaviour. Often I listen to new songs with a friend or my bf, and if it sounds, let's say, less than expected, I go:

"Uh, oh...well...it has potential. It's special. I think it's very nice." And then I quickly shut down winamp/Itunes/Spotify.

:laugh

i'll just listen to the songs i do like

noisy_harmony 16th November 2010 09:27 PM

Totally not. I'm not a freak and I know I'm not going to love everything he/she/they do, musically and otherwise as well.

if it's just one bad song or a couple, it's not a big deal to me and I just listen to the songs I do like/love. I only feel really disappointed and bad if one of my favorite artists releases a whole album I do not like, or if they release an album with only one or two good songs. but it's easy for them to make it up to me. they just have to release some other amazing songs for me to forgive them for their bad music, lol. like for example, I hardly liked any of the album tracks on SNSD's Oh! album but with their new mini they more than made up for it with some of their best songs ever. and like with Kuu, in 2008, 2009, and half of 2010 she released so many bad songs and I couldn't have been more disappointed, but she made up for all of it to me with her amazing cover album. with ayu, there is usually just one song I am disappointed with each year, but she usually makes up for it with all of her other amazing music and sometimes even remixes that wind up saving the song I originally disliked. with BoA, IDENTITY was one of the worst J-pop albums I've heard, but her Korean release HURRICANE VENUS was one of her best. so it's basically like, when I dislike something I wait for them to release something else in hopes that they will kind of "make up" for the bad stuff they release, and usually they do. with some artists it takes longer than others, but eventually it happens and I'm satisfied with them again.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 16th November 2010 09:46 PM

Never feel that way about ayu.
Miliyah, BoA and kumi maybe. just disappointing.

NintendoHTF1242 16th November 2010 11:43 PM

I just shrug it off like the first poster said LOL. Every single artist out there has a bad song in their discography (well, it's all opinions...). Can't do anything about it. Can't go to the artist and be like "ZOMG I HATE THIS SONG SO MUCH CHANGE NOW"

milky_way 16th November 2010 11:48 PM

I move on with my life like normal people do.

RyRyMini 17th November 2010 01:48 AM

I feel great!

Lawl, not really. I just hope that the next release won't be as horrible. Only on rare occasion has there been an artist who I liked all their releases.

pommy48 17th November 2010 01:51 AM

I just shrug it off too. They release too many amazing songs for a couple of bad songs to throw me off. There are also times that I learn to love bad songs :laugh

Kingdom 17th November 2010 02:07 AM

I am guilty of this with Ayu the most, I absolutely love her for her personality and who she is, but she releases so much music that I don't like/can't stand to listen to. She usually redeems herself by releasing a few good songs and one really good one after... but then she releases a lot of mediocre things!

It sucks, but I always listen to the songs I do like and keep up with her news. I occasionally get gems like crossroad and Days. It comes down to a matter of opinion and I can't dislike an artist for that, especially when they try their hardest.

KarenPang 17th November 2010 02:42 AM

erm normal ?

because I expect not every song in an artiste's discography will be perfect & great

doesn't mean I adore/like an artiste a great deal , it means I have to like every single thing about him/her :no

dreamland2.0 17th November 2010 02:57 AM

Well I know that there's always the next song. Sometimes a song will grow on me eventually so, meh I don't care too much :)

xLitax 17th November 2010 05:05 AM

If I love the artist, I won't care. I will only "love" an artist when I appreciate them for other things besides songs. ...that's kind of weird, but it's true. :P So if they release a bad song or album, I won't think too much about it and I'll just listen to what I do like from them.

XFER 17th November 2010 05:55 AM

I feel a bit sad, but like pommy, I learn to love bad songs so it doesn't matter in the end jajajajaja. Thankfully, my artists rarely do bad songs.

Yum!Fruit_Salad! 17th November 2010 08:20 AM

If it's one bad song released amongst a whole bunch of great ones, I don't really think about it. It kinda sucks that the momentum of good songs stopped but I can't expect any artist / band / group to be on point all the time.

Now if it's one more bad song released amongst a bunch of bad ones then I'm gonna be disappointed for like 20 seconds then focus on another artist, etc. that hasn't.

YuriChan 17th November 2010 10:39 AM

When I give the song a first listen and I think it's bad, I will avoid that song until I've heard it live... Like B'z SUPER LOVE SONG! :D Eventually, it'll grow on me! XDD

Picaflor 7/4 23rd November 2010 09:25 PM

whip out a gun on my family, abort babies, smash in windows, burn down churches, rape husbands, murder wives, sell children into slavery. you know. the whole 10 yards.

No lol jk. I give it a few chances, and if it doesn't grow on me, I just don't save it on my computer and don't listen to it.

fuawas 23rd November 2010 10:08 PM

I never felt that way till now...
Black Eyed Peas' new album is ***** and I'm really dissapointed... their previous albums were a lot better.
