COUNTDOWN LIVE 2010-2011 A ~do it again~ information thread [II]

So it's that time of year again! I'm keeping a look out for any new photos that fans have taken and will be looking for a setlist as well. I sort of expect people to tweet the setlist too especially since we have a few users attending the show today. If you have any news, reviews, or photos to add to this thread, please feel free to post them here and I will update the first post with the information!

- CENTER STAGE = MAIN STAGE
- This girl commented that the transition from Last Angel to Duty was one of the best in all of the years she's done these Countdown Lives.
- Oh there were silver streamers and balloons being shot out.
- Ayu was in a white t-shirt, the band was in black, and the dancers wore purple. XD. On their right hand they wore a black wristband and on their left a purple one.
- This person commented that Ayu's English was weak and probably had a lot of mistakes.
- A lot of the posters commented that the concert felt too short and when it was finished they were all "Eh? That's it?" But they generally all liked it.
- There were lots of pretty lights/illuminations on the center stage. And the lyrics appeared on the screen when she sang Do it again. It's probably going to have connection/be in her next tour.
- The concert started at 6:15 and ended at 8:40. If you were interested. =P. The dancers came out and did the MC. They had this feeling like "which way should I look and talk?!"

It's a bit weird though that should could sound perfect when you're there then when you see the live recording, it just doesn't sound right.

It IS weird. You would think a country with as advanced technology as Japan would have a better sound recording/editing system. I've been to plenty of concerts this year (including the infamous CDL09-10), and she's sounded wonderful in every single one of them.

AyuGAME 3rd January 2011 01:50 PM

bringing up the last discussed topic on previous thread...
about her vocal...

yeah...it's true that her vocal is perfect when you watched it live...
i attended her AT08, and it's perfect...

Not true. I get extremely excited, but I still listen out for her. There are times when she goes off-pitch, and I do notice, but she generally sounds great overall. She hits most of her notes well except when she's excited or running around lots.

Can't believe a HQ rip hasn't surfaced yet.. this might be the longest we've had to wait for it!

I haven't been to so many concerts but I've seen GACKT and GaGa this year (2010) and I was so hyped I could barely remember the particular details about their vocals tbh, I just remember that I found them over-all good.

SunshineSlayer 3rd January 2011 03:24 PM

^ Yes, I agree with you. No offense to anyone, but I do think people who go to the concerts often tend to over estimate her vocals. The last several times I've seen her, I thought her vocals had improved over the past couple of years, but I never thought they were at an amazing level or anything.

I guess different people notice different things. I'm a musician myself so I tend to notice the music aspect more. :)

alternarist 3rd January 2011 03:49 PM

i heard ayu's vocals for CDL1011, i thought they were amazing except the first 3 songs.. :( other than that i hv nothing to complain about. :)

aura~ 3rd January 2011 05:54 PM

When I attended the 7days special concert, 5 out of 7, I could see the same concert many times in less than 10 days.

Of course the first day, being my first Ayu concert, I wouldn't be able to give a good opinion. But the other 4 days I was able to pay more attention to her vocals and everything. I comented here back then how her vocals weren't as good on the last days (specialy the 9th Oct.). I mean, I could notice when she sang well or bad.

But I agree, and I don't understand why, people who attend the concerts say vocals were great, and then in the recording it turns like they were bad... it's really strange...

It was really strange for CDL 09-10! People who attended saying vocals were great and then with the rip everyone else thought different XD

I wonder why it happens...

For me, I can't wait to watch the RnRC DVD and compare, because what I remember is good vocals, not perfect but in some songs great!

I didn't watch CDL 09-10 until way after the DVD had been released (and I wasn't really active on the forum when it originally aired)...why is it considered "infamous"?

Yeah, when I was watching this year's CDL, I noticed the balance seemed off in some of the songs - like, the music was overpowering her vocals at times; that happened, much worse, for "I am..." in the TV version last year too as I recall. It's interesting that there seems to be a difference between perceptions of her vocals live versus a recording of the same live; I wonder why that is, too...

I still can't get over how much I loved this year's main setlist though! (still haven't watched the encore yet)

I seem to be in the minority thinking her vocals have actually been quite good. You gotta consider which songs she has been singing, generally quite hard songs. Same goes for CDL0910, where she sang a handful very hard songs as well and considering that, IMO did a great job. I see a definite improvement ever since CDL0708, sure, this concert had off notes and stuff, every concert of her has, but this also had her belting the hell out of Duty, singing a beautiful Virgin Road, giving us a Free & Easy that might beat every performance except for ST02 of it vocally, a live Marionette, which I would have never expected to ever happen with that choreo and theatricals, finding the neccessary strenght for Bold & Delicious, which has been lacking in CDL0708, singing some of her highest and lowest songs, holding notes for a longer time than usual, running around basically all the time in the non-ballads...and it seems like there might have been no playback(unlike almost everything AT09 and before...)
I was more than satisfied with her vocals except for short parts of CAROLS and Last Angel, usually the parts where she went to high strong notes without a buildup, it's incredibly hard to hit stuff like that. Songs that begin with more or less high and strong notes = horror.

nanakopy87 4th January 2011 01:58 AM

i'm generally liking this CDL (the setlist, the stage, the clown) EXCEPT the wig!i can't really accept the wig.lol.it look like the hairstylist(or whoever in charge of the wig) is having a great rest during her/his work :irked.

the vocals,i still can accept this time.

The TV version is the infamous one, not the DVD version. There were lots of comments then about how those were her worst vocals ever. And I agree, I totally couldn't stand listening to her voice in that version.

Strange thing is, I was there personally for the concert, and she sounded not perfect, but great. So...

MissElin_ 4th January 2011 03:48 AM

^Agreed. I went to that concert too and thought she did well... O.o So I got really confuced cuz when I saw the TV-version I was like "man this sounds bad... now, why's that?"

And I have seen Ayu live 10 times now so it's not like I'm still in the first-time-I-see-her-live-exctatic-so-I-dun-really-care-to-remeber-how-her-voice-sounds-like-mood.

It always sounds much worse in the tv-version then in live itself imo...

PoetGirl 4th January 2011 04:11 AM

I dont want to ruin myself dvd, so I just played Last angel for a few seconds and omg. I dont know whats worse, her wig or her singing. It sounded so bad, and I always try not to be negative. I didnt want to comment wig from pics thinking it might look better in the video, but no, it doesnt, it looks even worse. I dont know what to think about it >_<''

Tony G 4th January 2011 08:32 AM

The last few years, her vocals have always sounded bad on the live broadcast but fantastic on the DVD.

I don't know what to believe anymore!

mte

I've only seen the YT posted performances so far and I honestly don't think I wanna see more. Seriously, her voice has been so good lately that's simply inexcusable how bad her vocals sounded on some of those songs. I didn't even recognize LA, Trauma and Audience when she started singing them, she was literally screaming. She did really good on the verses with Duty but was unnecessarily forcing out the chorus from her gut for some inane reason and it killed the flow.

The ballad sections of her concerts tend to be the best though since she usually let's her dancers do all the movement and just concentrates on her vocals so I can't properly judge her overall vocal performance for this CDL until I see that but *sigh*... oh, and the hair and costumes are absolutely terrible tbbh.

Corvina 4th January 2011 08:59 AM

Well, I pretty much agree that her vocals aren't that good overall in this CDL, she's screaming much. But that's nothing new, especially with her hype concert songs (and she did have them all in this CDL, lol). The worst was flower garden for me from those, barely recognizable. Endless sorrow was the worst from the rest for me.
The hair is a mess as well
But I did enjoy this CDL really much nevertheless! Love that stage and how they used it and all the lights! Besides they really put attention to the single performances, Ayu had some choreography as well in some songs and her power is great. And overall her vocals were better than in the last one, so I'm pleased.

My favourite performances are Duty and Free & Easy.

Andrenekoi 5th January 2011 12:48 PM

And there's HD version of CDL on Jpoppv.com. Unafortunely, I can't download it.
