What does XX in "A Song for XX" mean?

I maybe stupid but what does XX in Ayu's A Song For XX mean? does it mean a song for female?

The XX is basically replacing a person's name.

But not necessarily just the name of a person that Ayu knows, it's so everyone can insert a name as to direct the song to the person in question.

Does this make any sense? haha

It's not the roman letter "x", it's a japanese symbol that looks very similar to it and that means "feel this space"... So, the song name is read as "A song for" and the xx is replaced to whatever or whoever u feel the song fits in ur life...

As the "XX" stands for something like "insert-whatever-you-want-here", I have even thought it could mean "ryoushin" ("parents" in Japanese). But this is just me ^_-

so she has never explained this?

Didn't she say about Virgin Road that it's dedicated to her mother, and that it's like A Song for XX -part II-? (I'm pretty sure she said that on twitter)

^ yes, you're right. When asked about whom Virgin Road was for, she said it's for her mother, just as A Song for XX.

The closest thing I can think of is 乂 and I really doubt it's that, given what has now been revealed in this thread and in interviews. I really love how deep the interpretations are on this site! It is deserving too, since Ayu is a really talented songwriter.

If I'm not wrong, it's not a kanji. It is "batsu batsu", actually -I mean, if you type this, you'll get these XX. But in this case, it is made silent.
