Ayu's message in her music/lyrics

There are many songs of Ayu were either meaningful, mysterious, vague, and even uplifting.

What are the songs were you fully understand the message of the lyrics and meaning of it?

There are lyrics that I fully understand the message.
For example:
The theme of never-give-up:
EnergizE, Beautiful Fighters, Bold&Delicious

The theme of love:
HEAVEN, LOVE ~Destiny~, teddy bear, FRIEND

I always figured Bold & Delicious was about standing up and voicing your opinion... It's always interesting to see different interpretations to the same song. :)

I'm sure there's other messages I think I understood in her songs, but I'll have to talk about it in more depth later...

I interpret Days as a simple "I have a big crush on you, but I know you're already with somebody else, but I still yearn for you". Which is why I love that song, because I can relate :laugh

^One of my friends interpreted the PV as, the power of friendship...and that's really the only reason I can tolerate the song at all lol

Lanz16 5th August 2011 03:52 PM

Days is one of the few songs I can relate and understand the whole message.
Same as the PV, I view it as a power of friendship.

How about those mysterious themed songs like Ladies Night and ourselves?
I wasn't sure of what the message is about

Andrenekoi 5th August 2011 05:26 PM

Ladies night is about female friendship when a girl goes through problems, in this case, a failed relationship... Good theme, considering women tend to be raised to never really trust other women....

I understand her sadder songs like A Song for XX, teddy bear and memorial address. About the problems we face growing up and how there are some relationships that can nver be fully healed.

chu-lips 6th August 2011 06:56 AM

i'm still able to get the meaning of her song sometimes...
the one that makes me think harder are her pvs.....
lol

After reaaally studying the lyrics, here's my interpretation of ourselves.

It's about a relationship where she's trying to show her every side of herself and her true self to him. There are some sides which the world won't see (past memories etc) but she wants him to see more sides of herself than anyone else. But he maybe doesn't understand or tries to be..physical when she wants an emotional connection. (I can't think of another meaning behind "I get touched, I get discouraged"). She continues on anyways through the road of life which only has 1 ending. She wants him to be with her because love is the most important thing! The "escape" is escaping through the hectic parts of life.
Even if they disagree a bit, they are connected and look towards the same happy future.

I hope that made sense.. It's 2am here! Haha

^great! :D

I've always considered ourselves as one of the most complicated (well, not really) lyrics Ayu has ever wrote. ..

Aderianu 6th August 2011 03:23 PM

appears
not matter how good pair looks, no one know about their real relationship

talkin' 2 myself, Startin', Sparkl
all in your hands

the song made me cry so many times, because I can relate to it and I consider this song to be one of the best in terms of lyrics and manner of singing. I never really enjoyed the song until I could relate to it.

in my opinion it's about parting with someone you love, thinking you are strong enough to part and to move on... and then you start to regret, you start to understand that actually all what you wanted is not the success, fame and money, but being with someone you love.

My favorites (besides POWDER SNOW) lyrically that I could relate/interpret would have to be: End Roll, SURREAL, End of the World, Dolls, Sending Mail, & Guilty

End Roll: I can painfully relate to this song because it's a sad realization that some things can never be as they were, even though you can go to that place in your mind where you were truly happy without saying goodbye, regrets, and wondering but like Ayu said "reality is cruel".

SURREAL: I mean who CAN'T understand the meaning of this song? It's the perfect "I need to accept my responsibilities and myself before I can move on" type of song!

End of the World: IMO, it's in the vain of SURREAL lyrically. But instead of trying to be optimistic, she states "People can be selfish, cowards, & determined but that can only be truthful if they are willing to say it themselves."

Dolls/Sending Mail: I put these two together because they are two sides of the same coin. Dolls speaks about wanting to share something beautiful but is waiting for the right time to do so while Sending Mail speaks about wanting to say something but emotions take over and it's possibly too late (kinda like No Way to Say).

Guilty: I love this song's lyrics so much that it hurts lol. This is the ultimate "Let me live this beautiful lie because I can't handle my past and your possible rejection" song!

Ok, I got a little too caught up in the post!

^ I just really love your explanation! :)

@chu-lips
I gotta agree on the PV part.
Its really harder to analyze it.
Ladies Night, alterna, ourselves are the examples of creepy/mysterious PV that I couldn't get the message.

mellody 10th August 2011 09:57 AM

Well, there are some songs that have mysterious PV, though the lyrics is kinda easy to understand. 1 LOVE, identity, and Lady Dynamite , these are my favorites, I think all of them have the same theme. Something like, "I don't care whatever you said, and I will just keep going."

But I don't understand the PV, at all...

Mayayu 10th August 2011 12:00 PM

EnergizE, GREEN... these for sure. I cnt understand Japanese and dnt remember more translations right now, but when i read those i felt like "thank u Ayu for telling my heart"

ayumasing 10th August 2011 03:05 PM

Oh, I love your explanation, Mimichild!

Some of her songs are easy to understand, while others aren't as straightfoward...or they have easy to understand lyrics, but the PV is confusing (like for me, I understand Ladies Night and alterna, but the PVs are kind of like, "Wait, what?" for me).

For "ourselves", I was thinking that perhaps the "I get touched/I get discouraged" are two separate thoughts (with her whole beginning stanza, I just thought they were separate thoughts at what she feels) so perhaps the "I get touched" isn't physical, but more of the emotional "I get touched" feeling (if that makes sense).
