Congrats to AKB48! Now I have a feeling the Kouhaku futures prediction may have shaken up...but I'm not sure...

Wait is it based solely on sales? I thought it was voted by a jury? If it's the latter the Record Awards will never be meaningful again.

Similar to the Grammys, the Japan Record Awards are not awarded based on sales, though various factors can sway in for a particular entry. EXILE's three-peats weren't #1 yearly on sales for its respective years; it was selected by a jury committee.

Japan Record Award is so shady, I think it has more to do with connections than anything else

still happy they got the honor though, though lol best new artist nomination 3/4 avex, Fairies only had 1 single prior?/one is out now and won
