the meaning of hamasaki ayumi name?

hi
what's the meaning of hamasaki ayumi..
Since there're some meaning for japanese name when i read a manga or dorama..
Thank you..

Ayumi means walking, progress or history..etc.
Hamasaki means beach or something not too sure

also u can think of ayumi as "beautiful fish" as ayu is a type of fish and -mi means beautiful but not really as the ayumi portion of Ayu's name is written phonetically in Hiragana so there's no "real meaning" behind that..

I thought that Hamasaki was beach related too, I have read it somewhere. Rough beach or something lol. But I do not know Japanese at all so it would be foolish to believe me at this point. :laugh

Ayumi Hamasaki = A walk on a beach (???) I'm NOT sure though~

C+R+E+AYUMI 10th January 2012 07:51 AM

love walk on a beach!

I found on a geneaology site:

Quote:

HAMASAKI Last name origin & meaning:

Japanese: ‘seashore cape’; found mainly in western Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands.

I read somewhere that when ayu was born she was given name written in kanji - 歩み which means "walk" or "step", so with surname it can be translated as "walking in a seashore cape" ;)

LONJJONG 10th January 2012 10:03 AM

Hamasaki is seashore.
Ayumi is walking.

So "walking on the seashore".
Haha~

Isn't "walking proud" a direct translation from her name?

False. "Hamasaki Kurumi" was a stage name that Ayumi used in her pre-Avex days (back when she was a teen idol and struggling actress).
