The International 3D Society recently announced the winners of its 2012 Creative Arts Awards in LA. A3D ayumi hamasaki ARENA TOUR 2009 A ~NEXT LEVEL~ won its award for “Electronic Broadcast Media (Television) – Live Event.” A full list of winners can be found at the organization’s website.

A3D previously won the International Society’s Japan Committee’s top prize, the “Lumiere Japan 2011 Grand Prix.” This most recent award came from the society’s Hollywood-based branch and was announced at the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel.

The International 3D Society is an organization that strives to advance the presence of and innovation in stereoscopic 3D in the arts. It accomplishes this through increasing the visibility of 3D projects–such as through its annual awards–as well as industry education through its International 3D Society University program.

A3D ayumi hamasaki ARENA TOUR 2009 A ~NEXT LEVEL~ (credited on the 3D Society’s website as “Ayumi Hamasaki: Arena Tour”) was both Ayu’s and J-pop’s first 3D concert film. It had a limited theatrical run in Japan and was recently screened in Singapore alongside her second 3D concert film, A3DII ayumi hamasaki Arena Tour 2010 A ~Rock’n'Roll Circus~. It is currently available on 3D Blu-ray.
I think this is wonderful news, but... how did A3D even qualify? The footage wasn't shot or altered to be 3D, like Hannah Montana's Best of Both Worlds concert for instance.. There were just a few scattered 3D effects digitally placed onto the footage.

Bigtop 10th February 2012 06:25 PM

Whoa... That's quite unbelievable - but how?

Chibi-Chan 10th February 2012 06:30 PM

^I'm really surprised!

Suteisi 10th February 2012 06:46 PM

It's really great new, but just like BigTop said... HOW?! Lol

How come we didn't know it was even nominated? I don't get it. It's INTERNATIONAL?!

MissElin_ 10th February 2012 06:51 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but... Didn't she say at the concert that the show actually was filmed with 3D cameras..? Or was that only for AT10...?

RayJason 10th February 2012 06:59 PM

..... what :/ I guess.. CONGRATS AYU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:DDDD

AT09 was shot in 3D, there were NOT only effects inserted. It's a real 3D recorded concert.
But it's one of her worst concert recordings with rather bad camerawork and the effects are horrible. How this won an award...I can't understand. The "normal" AT09 DVD/Bluray is heaps better.

3D Committee? LOL! Okay.

Congrats to Ayu, I guess?

If its true Arena Tour 09 was fully 3D, how come it doesn't look blurry at all on my computer screen. I do not have 3D capabilities in my graphics card or monitor. Like for example, the Dragon in Rule looks blurry, but the live footage behind the effect is crystal clear.

Kana×Shin 11th February 2012 03:02 AM

is there a clip of award?

JackieRos 11th February 2012 05:05 AM

holy wow!
I don't even like 3d but EOWOWOWOWOOWOW

YUKARI 11th February 2012 07:08 AM

The blurriness in 3D footage does NOT come from the footage itself, it comes from playing the footage in 3D. When you play back A3D in 2D it will look just fine, the dragon can look blurry for a million other reasons, they probably didn't render it at the quality needed for it to look good in the 2D version since they thought people would watch it in 3D.

Guess that's the power of Ayu xD Pity this isn't prestigious enough to see a worldwide release but it's nice to see her getting awards, though :)

So thanks for sharing. I think they'll continue this line of 3D concerts for some time to come...

Completely unrelated, but when I read the words "3D Committee" my mind leapt to locking them in a dark room with some hikkomori or weeaboos....the final 2D vs 3D showdown!

y_nathz 12th February 2012 06:21 AM

wait, what ? how ? XD
lol whatever, congrats Ayu!

queenbee 12th July 2012 02:04 PM

I'm glad to read these news, she deserves every award she can get for all the wonderful music she is giving her fans!

ayu_ready? 12th July 2012 04:08 PM

really great!

Dustie 14th July 2012 10:46 PM

Lol, they would have to be reckless to place just a few "3D effects" in the footage and call it a 3D concert, really. Also, if it's available as a 3D BlueRay release, then it had to be all in 3D (filmed, or at least converted), otherwise it would seem like a big misguiding.

You mean blurry as in split in two colours, like stereoscopic image?

kinix 15th July 2012 01:33 PM
