why was Love~Destiny~ so popular?

Is there a reason why this particular song was the first Ayu single to hit number 1 on the charts? Is it because Tsunku composed the music?? I don't know what's so special about this song... :think

i love the song, but i cant speak for everyone else, and i didnt love it straight away. it seems weird that it would be the first ayumi #1

jerms 1st December 2003 11:49 PM

hm? never really seemed incredibly popular to me. but if it is, my guess would be its because its an b-side.

mimika 2nd December 2003 01:05 AM

true, I had forgotten about the lyrics. ..the lyrics..

MTRLevolution 2nd December 2003 03:34 AM

since 1999 was the best version. duets kick ass.

nmskalmn 2nd December 2003 03:35 AM

I would guess that being the theme song for Fuji TV drama helped it get to #1.

hanabiwings 2nd December 2003 07:22 AM

The theme song component, the tsunku collaboration (very much this element), and the fact that this new singer, Hamasaki Ayumi, had an album that had gone to number one (A Song for XX did hit 1, right?) and a pretty hot single called WHATEVER just prior really made this song hit. And I think it was her first huge one. It cemented her fame. And the lyrics LOL Definitely the lyrics.

MTRLevolution 2nd December 2003 08:20 AM

"well can i loving you forever?"

"where is true love? fall in love it's true."

kournikova 2nd December 2003 01:58 PM

i think it is because of the melody and her sweet lyric... i mean not sweet but it is reality... based on our situation... the translation of love destiny can be found at www.ayumi.primenova.com/lyrics/lovedestiny.htm you will find the sweetest lyric there

Larisa-chan 2nd December 2003 06:45 PM

ohh thanks, the lyrics really are nice... I was surprised that WHATEVER didn't hit number one, but at least it helped Love~Destiny~!

gakkun 4th December 2003 10:37 AM

I agree with the things people have said, but I also think that it's because it's pretty mainstream pop-ish. TO BE was released after the success of LOVE ~Destiny~ and because it's much more melancholy it did worse than the former...so I think the song's mainstream-ness has something to do with it. :)

Ryoko 7th December 2003 03:12 AM

The lyrics most definetly.. I think the Japanese people at that time really felt those lyrics.

miruku 14th December 2003 07:23 AM

i know what u mean...... i don't really find that song to be special.. probabli b/c i don't really like her debut songs

Seiferz 14th December 2003 03:17 PM

For Me the song itself really touch my heart ... so peace & i like hear it at midnight

M_aria 23rd December 2003 12:31 AM

Personally, I hate Love~Destiny, I just can't stand it. However I love TO BE.

kurissu-chan 11th April 2004 09:04 AM

when if first heard the last part of the chorus which is 'wasurenai', I got hooked. it meant 'i won't forget you' or something. plus, the melody was something i went crazy over. I love it, like most ayu fans (probably) would. ^_^

kournikova 11th April 2004 10:13 AM

yep wasurenai means i wont forget you... ^^ you can read the translation in the link i posted a while ago ^^... i love all the trilogy of LOVE (destiny, Since 1999, Refrain) :)
