Ayumi's Current Vocal

Hi guys, there is this thing regarding to ayumi's vocal that have been bothering me for quite some time...

What i mean is that we all know that her voice has become more stronger and also "thicker" (sry, i dont know the right term for it)... At same time, most also said she can't really hit high notes now... though I am quite okay with that...

But i am curious the way ayu sang "evolution"... Especially during the verse, she can't seems to sing complete certain part of the sentences in full.... I mean she will like needs to take a break in between of the sentence... Although her voice has changed, but will it lead to kinda like breathless singing evolution?

Oh ya, i mean no offence to anyone, cause I don't know much about music stuff except only listening to music...

Is there any reasons to it that when she sings LIVE, she sometimes seems kinda breathless (like there will be a gap in between those sentences)? Does the voice change in her impact so much? Or is it because of her left ear that cause the impact?

yeah i noticed that thing in evolution and boys and girls surreal too. ..

i think this has got something to do with they way she breathes while singing rather than how her voice changed or her ears...

The fact is evolution is a very fast song for anyone and She has realized herself ! She stated in an interview something like she does not know what she was thinking the day she made this song lol and when she sings this song she is not concentrate at all she runs everywhere or moves a lot etc... but for sure her voice is much more deeper as in the past ! The original evolution is high pitched and like all her high pitched songs (1998/2001) she has some difficult because it's simply normal her voices can't go that high now ! she can it high note but not the same way as before tbh her high pitched voice was not her "true" voice since the begining of her carrier ...

She seems "breathless" when she sings evolution since AT 2004/2005 when her voice became deeper in definitive lol

Maybe she used to smoke n drink? That might've affected her...

^She's a drinker I guess and maybe a smoker too? I remember about the picture that said it was her with a cigarette? I'm not really sure about smoking though. If she does I could only hope she reconsiders it, at least decrease her intake

Exactly. That's why she uses playback during the refrain of these songs. You can clearly notice this by watching her old TV performances.

Yeah her voice is different but as it's changed it seemed to compliment the type of music she chose to record. However, I do find it strange that in the "Tell All" book, the author is commenting on how her voice has not changed over the years. Lol. Um, what?

mizuki-7 12th May 2013 10:39 PM

It's even not the author it's her composer Yasuhiko Hoshino so it's even more strange for someone who know her since the begining lol but maybe he find her current voice better ? I don't know ? but the fact he says that she takes care of her voice is a good thing ^^

maybe they mean her deep-ass talking voice.

Around AT05 she said she kept a fridge full of beer to drink constantly, but after Love Songs or so she said she decreased that in order to have a better voice so idk.

Breathing issue can also be heard in PCDL And Then~Naturally medley also. It apparently appears when she tries to sing her older songs..

Well, I don't listen to Ayu for vocals. She's not the strongest in that respect. So, I'm not really bothered :laugh

chu-lips 14th May 2013 12:55 PM

n her octave?

But don't take this video like a truth because it's only the studio vocal range and I am skeptical for some note ! Not only for Ayu but for other singers that you can see in his channel

true :) I actually listen to her bc of lyrics + performances. her voice is okay imo. compares to other singers, she is nowhere near, but her songs beat all the others.
I actually dont understand how her singing voice back then can be so high, but her talking voice is just so deep

ImpactBreaker 15th May 2013 05:37 AM

Maybe not vocal, but I do somewhat listen to her because of her voice. Not sure why, but there's something cool/different about it that hypnotizes me. If it were another singer singing her songs I don't think I'd get a simillar feel.

I really liked when she used to sing fast verses, mainly Fly high and evolution! But we have to take into consideration that a studio track can be recorded by parts so she had the chance to take her breath when she recorded evolution (plus try again several times). In live performance, it's another story though lol I always thought she couldn't get well with the pace of the verses on vocal performances..not sure if she was better in the past on doing it live though, since it's been ages since I last saw an old ayu live performance.

mizuki-7 15th May 2013 09:39 AM

I listen to Ayu absolutely for her vocal ! I know she is not the best singer in the world but I don't care I prefere 1000 times better a singer with an atypical voice not particularly perfect but who puts so much emotions in her songs than a singer with a perfect voice without emotion and sensibility ! I don't understand japanese so if it's not for her voice I love her I don't know it's for what ! Music can be good but if I don't like the voice of the singer I will not be interested ... and I know that a lot of people is like me on this point the majority of people here don't understand japanese so if it's not for her voice I don't understand :confused

Minttulatte 15th May 2013 03:40 PM

If I listened to Ayu because of her voice, I would have stopped listening to her in 2009 like I almost did because she really doesn't have the best voice in the world, but what really draws me always back to her are the lyrics I can relate to~ ♥ I like Ayu's stronger vocals more though because sometimes those high voices make my ears hurt and I hate that. Stronger, deeper vocals are always the best imo~ :)

Pieces_of_SEVEN 17th May 2013 10:24 PM

Well, it seems like everyone who has been going to the 15th anniversary tour has been saying that her vocals have been mostly amazing.
