Mylène Farmer

I've seen Mylène Farmer mentioned by other people on this forum so let's get ourselves a thread! She is my joint favourite singer with Ayu.

If you have never heard of Mylène then I'll post some videos of her most well known songs later. She is a French singer known for her grand cinematic videos, cryptic lyrics full of erudite references and word play and for being enigmatic- you won't find her on social media or even often giving interviews. She also gives a heck of a concert.

Her tenth album, Interstellaires, was released on the 6th November.

Desenchantee is regarding as one of her best and most popular songs. The music video is the short version

Je T'aime Melancholie is a classic case of Mylene's upbeat music with dark lyrics

California is another fan favourite

C'est dans L'air is one of my more recent favourites

I'm also including Avant que l'ombre for its rather incredible performance. This was a sombre but theatrical concert closer. Think crying fans, waterfall on stage and videos projected onto the waterfall.

Some of her other classic songs are Pourvu qu'elles soient douces, Sans contrefaçon, Libertine, Ainsi soit je, Rêver and XXL.

Finally :-)
I discovered her quite late unfortunately a year ago actually and two only songs i was familiar with were Libertine and Desenchantee due to the covers of the same songs by Kate Ryan many moons ago.
I thought if covers were good that the original should be , right ?
And not only that they were good they were perfect Desenchantee in particular given the meaningful message that song has and also the music video.
Interstellaires is my fix right now and the album is such a journey.
The only problem i have with new album is that it's little on the short side

I often find her albums a bit short but at least she is releasing albums more frequently than she used to. I've been listening for about 10 years but there was a gap of 6 years for Avant que l'ombre just before I became a fan. I used to listen to Malice Mizer (very rarely now) and in an interview they gave Mylene as an influence. Now I love her more than I ever did Malice Mizer (sorry MM!)

I'm hoping for a tour end of 2016 or maybe 2017. I went to the Stade de France concert in 2009 and I saw Timeless in 2013 twice so I don't want to miss the next one!

axmish87 19th November 2015 09:37 PM

You saw Mylene live?!:-O Envy :-)
Her concerts are awesome.
Timeless is the concert a downloaded on a whim and even though i was completely ignorant of her songs besides those two mentioned in the post above i was blown away.
Just that entrance on T2013 is EPIC when she sang A force de...
It was such a spectacle I watched that concert 5 more times :-)

Yeah, I live in the UK, so getting to France is pretty easy :D

I think Avant que l'ombre a Bercy is still my favourite tour. The Peut Etre Toi entrance is something else!

Wow, I thought I was seeing things when I saw this thread!!! Its about time, she is amazing!

stepYOU1234 21st November 2015 12:14 PM

I thought it was time that she deserved one! I'd also seen her mentioned a couple of times in the forum so I was hoping a few people would find this thread :D Have you listened to Interstellaires?

Andrenekoi 23rd November 2015 12:55 PM

I have been listening to Mylene since 2006... One of my favorite popstars ever!^^

axmish87 23rd November 2015 03:54 PM

Same here, roughly! I remember seeing the live reports for Avant que l'ombre a Bercy and wishing I could have gone.

I would really like Ayu to use the waterfall effect with her A logo.

I'm really impressed with Interstellaires. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is!

Pardonne Moi <3 and Desenchente. i love them i love them

Apparently she was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She was slated as a musical performance and performed 'Stolen Car' with Sting.. however I don't see any videos online from it yet?

Her FB even posted about it. I really want to see, its her American debut performance to my knowledge.

stepYOU1234 27th November 2015 05:59 PM

There's no video yet as the performance will be on the 4th of December

I still cant find full version of the show

stepYOU1234 5th December 2015 10:10 AM

Yeah, I can't find it either but hope it appears soon!

Edit- http://www.mylene.net/modules/index.php?r=4&z=4411
Here it is! Sounds live :D

axmish87 5th December 2015 07:56 PM

Thank you
Mylene is absolutely gorgeous :-)

Andrenekoi 6th December 2015 12:54 AM

Wow, it's very rare for her to actually sing live on tv!

stepYOU1234 6th December 2015 09:31 AM

I've never understood why she uses playback for tv performances though because she can sing >.<
I'm glad she sang live this time because it gives a better impression to people just seeing her for the first time.

mizuki-7 6th December 2015 09:40 AM

yeah probably the 1st time in 20 years if not more lol

axmish87 6th December 2015 06:44 PM

Well Sting sounded not-so very good or maybe that's beacuse he sang in the lower tone.
He sings with a higher tone on the actual single.
Something kind of really bugged me and that's the very little chemistry that the two of them as a duo have on stage or here inparticular. And it also seems like they haven't really rehearsed the performance very well IMO.
Once more I need to point out that Mylene was GORGEOUS and she did her part nicely
