Ayumi Hamasaki in DAM's yearly karaoke ranking for 2016

Quote:

Daiichikosho Co., Ltd., the company behind the popular DAM karaoke boxes, recently published their service’s song request rankings for the year 2016. This chart measures the amount of times which a song has been requested at a DAM karaoke machine between January 1st and November 30th of this year and is useful for showcasing the long-term popularity of particular tracks. Furthermore, given that DAM possesses the lion’s share of the karaoke market share in Japan, these rankings are as close as can be gotten to a national karaoke chart for the country.

I wonder what songs most popular. Seasons and Dearest?

truehappiness 12th December 2016 10:11 AM

Probably those and the usual ballads/summery songs.

Aderianu 12th December 2016 10:49 AM

Also wonder what song from the most latest release people choose
Maybe TODAY? Or at least Step by step

truehappiness 12th December 2016 11:27 AM

I could see a lot of Ayu fans doing Last minute, but it's possible maybe Many Classic Moments and Movin' on without you's covers were big as well? Summer diary also strikes me as a karaoke friendly song.

rainbow_smile 12th December 2016 12:48 PM

I think people requested a lot of different Ayu songs instead of requesting certain popular songs many times, because none of Ayu songs made it to the Top 50 songs ranking for the year.

Excited to see EXILE and Ayu.

There's a ranking by other karaoke company - Joysound.
https://www.joysound.com/web/search/artist/6705/ranking

Top 20:

13 LOVE ~Destiny~

14 JEWEL

15 No way to say

16 Boys & Girls

Last minute (Original mix) is number 33.
FLOWER is number 74.

Movin' on without you is number 83.
Summer diary is number 84.
So, overall very few songs from recent years.

Aderianu 12th December 2016 02:05 PM

I'm surprised with FLOWER and WARNING
they are quite angry

This is so cool. I'm glad to see Ayu here.:yes
I'm a little surprised at some of the names that are not on here.

Congratulations to Ayu (and Hibari Misora)!!!

oaristos 13th December 2016 09:23 PM

That's good for her! I can't really imagine myself singing Ayu though, sometimes I feel they're very... particular :think I feel like they were "meant" for her voice. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if they never released one of those tribute albums with other artists covering her songs. What do you guys think? :)

Ohhh... Good question!!! Well, I sing Ayu's songs e.g. Because of You, my name's WOMEN, 1 LOVE. But I also sing e.g. Memorial Adress and Untitled ~for her~. Sometimes when I sing them I ask myself "Is it okay to sing these songs?" and then I stop because I feel bad... :(

kotora 13th December 2016 11:58 PM

BLUE BIRD is no.1 ?

What?

I really really want this album. I think avex like to release such things at artists anniversary, so I hope to see it at 20th. Gackt did good job with Seasons, so atrists who can sing will record good covers

What?

Why are you surprised? This song has always been one of the favourites of even non-Ayu fans:-)

Raiu-Ayu 14th December 2016 04:15 PM

^yeah, BLUE BIRD was ayu's last real hit

it is crazy how much people talk about her not mattering anymore and that she's just a flop, but then you see her concerts, a-nation, online album charts, and now this, and it's like she may not be at the front of the line anymore but the woman is still a Japanese music legend

Chibi-Chan 14th December 2016 05:05 PM

^of course she has her legacy, but people singing her OLD songs at karaoke because of nostalgia does not mean they care about her. Everytime I sing an Ayu song at karaoke, my japanese friends are like "natsukashiiiii~~~~~" (how nostalgic) and then also want to sing an old Ayu song. But when I sing a new one they always think it would be an old one they just don't know and when I tell them that it's actually a new one, they are like "eh? She still releases music?".
I think there is nothing wrong with "just" having a solid fanbase and don't being the hottest thing out there after 20 years in the business, though.

That's interesting! I also wonder why nobody (?) ever did an official cover of one of her songs...
