Interesting! I wonder why there's a sudden spike in May.

That was interesting. Thank you.

So Ayu beat everyone except Utada, once again.

Nana Mizuki and Aoi Eir as best selling female solos?
The best selling female solos last year were Aimyon, Shiina Ringo, LiSA and aimer.
Tho apart from Aiymon, who's one of the overall top artists, it's a bit hard to pinpoint cause of the music market being segmented now.

I thought that was really interesting so I ran it through in Japanese to see how different the results might be :)

Spoiler:
Interestingly enough Ayu seems to outrank a lot of her contemporaries. I expected more Youtube searches for TVXQ since they have a sizeable Korean discography available to stream for free whereas Japanese artists only jumped on this last 1-2 years with more streaming service access.

Ayu's book came out in July. The big spike for Kanjani8 was when Ryo Nishikido announced his withdrawal from the group.

Actually after uploading the image I noticed there was no space in Ayu's name but there was in Hikki and Kuu. It doesn't seem to alter the overall results, just some slight increases or decreases across the board and categories.

Changing to just Japan-based searches is still pretty similar overall, too!

I thought the same. I don’t even know who Aoi is lol and Nana Mizuki has never seemed that much of a success, especially compared to Aimer and Aimyon this year.

Try this again this time next year and ayu will have spiked January 1st ahaha

^I will be looking forward to the results!!! :D

I did this with Aimer but Aimer is also a word so it looked liked she was more popular than ayu and Utada together which is wrong

Also, I can't do this with LiSA because same as above, it's a common name so, even there is another japanese artist that goes by the name LISA

^ google trends lets you see the trends specifically for artists, separately from the overall search term, example: https://trends.google.com/trends/exp...,%2Fm%2F017b2p
