The Britney Zone could include China. Chinese promoters are talking with Britney Spears' managers about her performing in China later this year, a promoter said Wednesday.

China's Culture Ministry has yet to approve Spears' appearances, said Wang Enqiang, an agent for Beijing Poly Culture and Art Co. Ltd.. "If approved, it would be one of the top performers ever to appear in China," Wang told The Associated Press. He wouldn't give other details pending ministry approval.

There was no immediate comment on the talks from the singer, who's touring North America to back her latest album, "In The Zone." With more than 54 million records sold worldwide, Spears would be one of the biggest international pop stars to play here since the communist state's establishment in 1949.

Rising incomes and relaxed social and economic strictures have fed an appetite for foreign performances, though many concerts here are believed to lose money.

Pop songstress Mariah Carey became one of the biggest stars to play China with a pair of concerts in Shanghai last November.

Aging British hard rockers Deep Purple were scheduled to play Beijing and Shanghai this week.

The Rolling Stones were slated to play Shanghai and Beijing last year, but the shows were canceled amid the regional outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS.

Wang said members of Spears' production team planned to visit China in mid-April for more talks.

I heard about this on Access Hollywood today!!
I really don't know what to think...Britney, in China.
Because, you know, not to generalize or anything, but Chinese people sort of have these values, such as anything more than a turtleneck is ****ty (I know this through experience), and every child should only concentrate only on studies, and you shouldn't date until you're established in life. Britney is exactly the opposite of these values.
And Chinese people kind of aren't as "open" as the American audience, and considering Britney's "sex selling" (as can be seen in her recent concerts), I don't know....

Great, now she can mentally de-virginize the chinese people who haven't been soiled by her horrible music of their innocence, and also expose them to her equally horrible lip-synching.

it's so trueeee... I heard Britney recently say on MTV that she wants to go in a more "adult" direction with her music and tours. WHATEVER THAT'S SUPPOSED TO MEAN. -.- She's already one set of underwear away from her shows becoming complete strip teases.

I think she looks damn fine.

Face it people, Britney is STILL popular. I mean, someone has to be buying her records for her new album to already of sold 6 million copies in the US.

OOo Britney Spears looks cool in that picture, you can see her cleavage, it's like she's on top of the world. OMG she's going to China now, I hope they enjoy her. As for me I don't think I will be going to see her concert in China.

gew-san 4th April 2004 08:33 AM

NOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo my worst nightmare in my favourite country! Chrono won't be able to assassinate her, cause she'll be dead before anyone will reach her first. Even Michael Jackson in China would be better o_O
I hope this doesn't get approved, unless they approve it to trap her on stage so millions of people can stone her :laugh
Stop destroying my favourite Chinese culture! grrr
