CDL 2003's "Everywhere Nowhere"

lol. ok me and my sister were watching the cdl2002-2003 the other day. we got in an arguement over the performance of "everywhere nowhere". i could swear she lost her voice during that end of the concert, and it got really hoarse listening to her. x_x. my sister claims she just wasnt singing in the mic, or the recording was bad, or bla bla bla. but didnt ayumi lose her voice halfway through the concert?! especially during the EVERYWHERE NOWHERE performance! u cant even hear her! o_O just wondering. thanks.

I thought the mic went out? My friend who downloaded the famima version said you could hear Ayu *faintly*. But I dunno.

Then, maybe she was singing into the mic, but the speakers were kaput! :x

Well, she isnt the only one. Maybe because she does a lot of concerts, it seems more frequent.

Okay, to explain.

During the actual performance (as seen from the live tv broadcast), ayu was sick and was losing her voice. Her mic went out during 'everywhere nowhere', that's why she ran off the stage for a moment after the first chorus because she was trying to get it fixed. And before that, she made a hand motion to the staff to try to turn her mic up (she does this often, when the mic is too soft or loud). She came back, it wasn't really fixed much. But it got better as the song went on.

You can tell that she was losing her voice from the very beginning. It started getting quite bad starting with "Heartplace". I still wonder why "evolution" and "UNITE!" sounded absolutely perfect yet she had problems with all the other songs. She got out of tune quite a bit and really struggled with singing. I have a feeling that during the concert, they were running a previously recorded version along with her voice, but just turned her mic down low. The TV version was live, and unedited. So either she somehow managed to perform those perfectly, yet you could clearly tell she was struggling with all the other songs.

On the avex released DVD, they replaced the entire vocal track of 'everywhere nowhere'. As you can see, close to the end of the song, her voice continues to carry even after she closes her mouth. They also edited out the part where she said something to the audience when she ran off stage. (I can't really remember what she said, the downloaded tv broadcast was on my old computer which is now no longer running). I'm sure it was something like "please hold on a minute."

Other parts that were replaced on the DVD included:

after the first "a woman could be having fun/like a nun" the following verse "Itami wo shiranakya
Yasashiku nante irarenai" was replaced with another recording, because she messed up;

Once or twice in the TRF medley when she went off-key.

The second time ayu sings by herself in "AUDIENCE" (when she walks over with Chiharu and acts funny for the camera). It really irritated me when I first heard it, because they used a very nasally and high-pitched recording that totally did not fit with the way she was singing in the rest of the concert.

In "WE WISH", I believe they played another recording over top of her voice, because during the TV recording, her voice was very weak.

In July 1st, it seems they added more when she sang the chorus, to make it sound stronger.

What's funny is that, you'd think if they'd really replace some bad tracks, they'd replace "Voyage". But yeah. I'm not saying all of these are definite, but most likely.

I have to say I love this concert though. She looked great and it made me respect her even more that she still performed even though she was very sick and tired. It's crazy why they schedule so many TV performances on the day she has her countdown every year. This usually makes her countdown performances suffer. From what I've seen of the latest one, it seemed she didn't have too much problem this past year (03-04).

Hope that cleared things up.

I think that Ayu in reality isn't a very good singer, my best guess is that when she records her songs she records a bit at a time, and that when she does her concerts she strains her voice too much cuz she's not used to it, but when recorded correctly she sounds beautiful. But her concerts just suck, sorry, I agree with you, no technical problems, just technical singing.

poor ayu :(
