EXODUS Reaches 1 mil Sales in Japan !

According to Japan's Oricon Charts, Utada's debut album EXODUS has surpassed the 1 million sales mark in Japan!! It is now Japan's fastest selling English language album to hit the million sales mark, beating out the likes of Avril Lavigne and t.A.T.u.

Big congrats to Utada !!!

No surprise there, she was bound to hit a million sooner or later, given her popularity in Japan. Congrats Hikki. =)

Larisa-chan 26th October 2004 05:05 PM

definitely not a surprise... lucky girl having Japan as your backup. Too bad tons of other artists trying to make it in the US don't have that "luxury" ;)

MsMiyabi 26th October 2004 05:55 PM

good for her!

~ayu-cake~ 26th October 2004 06:39 PM

Duh.
Utada Hikaru in Japanese or English is good enough for the Japanese. But not for us :no :no
Did you guys know she's in the Guinness Book of World Records for most selling albums in the world? :P

LOL, that's not quite correct, I don't believe. It's more like the first person to have more than 3 consecutive albums sell more than 2 million copies, or something like that.

Artists like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Alanis Morissette have sold more albums worldwide than Hikki has.

ayuchanfan 27th October 2004 06:13 PM

scary!

Oops, I mean that Utada's music isn't good enough for the rest of the stupid people in America. Of course, American music IS popular around the world, as for Japanese music, we're fans, but we're small as ants and people can't see us. Most of the people I know that listen to Asian music ARE Asians.. o_O

Nu-NRG 27th October 2004 10:03 PM

blah...if only this can happen in the US
and we're not surprised?

y2687 27th October 2004 11:29 PM

well what would be the point of promoting and promoting if her album wouldn't sell well? maybe just to stay on the safe side, they decided not to spend too much.

doe anyone know the total sales as of recently?

alterego 27th October 2004 11:58 PM

It's a shame that she is not close to reaching that point in the U.S., but anyways, congratulations to her on this success.

Aldonia 28th October 2004 02:24 AM

Ah, congrats. Too bad she's probably never gonna achieve that much in sales over here. << They didn't even try to promote her..
