Utada ranked 34 on the world charts

The final ranking for the year 2004 has finally come out. Our Utada is ranked 34, selling 2.313.000 copies! It sucks cus only one japanese singer is on the ranking.

The weird thing is that, they didn't add Jay Chou on the charts. Jay Chou's new album actually sold over 4 million. So i doubt that chart. I guess they shouldn't call it the United World Chart, and call it Half World Chart.

But i'm very happy for Utada!

EXODUS should have sold more than the crappy Single Collection!!

And yeah, I don't think they count the sales for China, dunno why...

Thanks for the info CRAZYBOAT!

i bet u the chart is made by america, and maybe its got something to do with china and communism...? i didnt study modern history, but isnt china communist? and i think american's fear/hate communism.... lol im probably completely wrong. can any knowledgeable person clear this up?

^ err....no offence but that's one crazy theory. ^^'' it's more like there isn't a major Chinese music chart so they have no way of tracking how many cds are sold in China. If you include pirated copies I would imagine that would be alot, but if not I doubt there would be too much sales.

natalaxie 29th December 2004 01:27 PM

^o ok... lol me so stoooopid...

sxesven 29th December 2004 04:46 PM

Agreed - that leans toward conspiracy theory.

Congratulations on Utada!

As far as i know by looking at the charts, there are many artists that were left out on the ranking. Yes, i researched and Jay Chou actually sold over 3 million copies, i think the only chinese singer that has sold that much since many years. Also, if i'm not wrong, Will Young, the UK singer, also sold over 3 million copies with his last album, but i dont' see that there. Hmm...who else?

FancySN 29th December 2004 08:01 PM

Can you provide a link so I can see who else is on that chart?

Np ^_^ And i agree that EXODUS should have sold more since practically all the fans have heard of the songs from the singles collection. And EXODUS is highly underrated!

This is the charts for the ranking.

Exodus is definitely underrated. I can see why the Single Collection was sold quite well though. First off, casual listeners 'd much rather buy this collection than every single album or single. Second off, it has 'COLORS', which wasn't on an album or anything yet by then - the reason why I bought the Single Collection.

CRAZYBOAT 29th December 2004 08:16 PM

Yeah, i agreed. "COLORS" was the only song that kind of stand out in this album for me.
