What have your friends call Ayu when you talk about her.
 

I live in Tennessee, and I have a profile on myspace (on my signature). I have Ayu as a wallpaper, and I play music from her. Just about all of my friends has myspace. They say I have an obsession with her. SO! I'm sure you've had an obsession with something once in your life. Every time I talk about her they say:

1."That Korean chick?" :no

or

2."Oh, its thoughs Chinese things you like." :no

Although I tell them a bunch of times that she is Japanese and I get mad :gnash , I still laugh because I think its kind of funny. :yes

Anyone have any similar situations of this happening?

I've been lucky. My friends all call her Ayu :P or Ayumi :D

why "Chino"? i thinks thats a bit racisism??

Most of my friends like J-Pop, so they call her Ayu or Ayumi. But have some other friends that don't like J-Pop, and they call her "that Japanese girl that you like".

doesnt chino just mean chiense in spanish..o_o..its nothing deragatory(...um.sp?)..

My friends call her ayu, ayumi, and this one friend calls her ayumi boobisaki. I get kinda mad and yet its quite funny. My japanese friends just call her hamasaki ayumi.

My friends know who Ayumi is so they just call her Ayu or Ayumi.

alot of plp don't say n-e-thing about it .....because a lot of plp don't know that i like ayu( well the know when they visit my xanga)......but when plp ask me what am i listening 2 and i say i'm listening 2 ayumi hamasaki she's a japanese singer plp give me a funny look and say things like "don't u listen 2 beyonce or jay-z " or "is some thing wrong w/u only asians listen 2 that type of music and your not asian so y don't u listen 2 50cent" i just make me angery........i mean come on .........yes i'm black but that dosen't mean that i have 2 listen 2 50cent or beyounce all the time......yes i like their music but then again i like ayu.........i'm a musician/singer so i listen 2 a lot of artist is there something wrong w/that?

P.S. i like ayu better than beyounce (i hope my manager dosen't read this)

One of my friends calls her yahomi hamasaki like a gangster which at sometimes I do think it's funny but she doesn't dislike her or anything and doesn't make fun of her unlike my family when ever I try and sing to her, they always ALWAYS make fun of it. ><;

dont be ashamed! ayu is definitely better than any of them! and who says you cant listen to ayu AND/OR them anyways!

yeah. my best friend is like, "who?" everytime i mention her. and im like, "go to hell freak" but i laugh about it. i dont really talk about her unless its big. i mean, what is there to say to people who dont know her? just tell them once, and thats it. if they get into it, fantastic! otherwise, whatever.....

yes. when a spanish person calls someone chino (meaning chinese male/ of chinese descent) just because they look asian (or should i say oriental. actually i have a problem of what word i actually SHOULD use) is racist! but it is a custom that everyone does but says nothing about. every single time we turn it to the korean channel on my tv, my parents are like, "those chinos" and i correct them and say they are korean, and that just because they look a certain way doesnt mean they are chinese! and they're like, "same diff" and it gets on my nerves.

the same goes when someone hears an oriental language and assume it's chinese and sometimes (which really gets on my nerves) they try to make fun of it by immitating it. i can tell when someone is speaking korean or japanese, but other languages i cannot tell between, so i ask instead of disregarding it and making fun.

but ive learned to deal with THIS kind of common racism. even though i try to correct ppl all the time. it's sad. ppl's ignorance is very sad :( :no

My friends and i know that she is the Queen Of J-POP. We alwas know who she is... 'Cause I am Japanese :yes (he he)

we usually call her Ayu, Ayuchan sometimes Ayumi...Most of people in My country usually call her Ayu, or Hamasaki Ayumi :D

It's not just Spanish people who refer to all Asians as Chinese. Lots of people classify Asians that way because they can't tell the difference. The funniest thing is when someone does the same to them (eg confuse Samoan with Tongan, Indian with Sri Lankan etc) they get offended! :rolleyes

acimahs- It's funny how people stereotype each other, isn't it? Because you're black you are only allowed to listen to rap? LOL
I personally LOVE Jay-Z, and I like Beyonce, but I can't compare either of them to Ayu because all their music is so different! I can't say Ayu is better than Jay-Z or vice versa because in their respective genres they are brilliant!!

Anyway, since this thread is getting a bit off topic, my friends know I listen to a lot of different music, from hip hop to jpop and kpop. They don't really know who Ayu is, but a couple who do just call her 'Ayumi'. :)

Most of my friends don't call her anything, but one calls her Ayumi, another can never get her name right.

Most of my friends don't know who she is, and mostly refer to her as, "One of those Asian singers you like."

Some of my friends call her "A-yo-MI Higurachi" :D Its funny when they say that name, one of my friends calls her Ayumi Hamasaki and other friends just Ayu :P
