Favorite New/Upcomming Bands?

Hey guys and gals, I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of any awesome new bands (or at least new to most of the rest of the world). Right now I can't get enough of The Caesars. They have that one song, Jerk It Out on the radio right now. Some other good songs by them are Paper Tiger, Soulchaser, Spirit... and all the others on their CD. You guys hear anything really cool too? I'm looking for some new music :) Thanks!

Alice9 is a fairly new jrock band. they are really kool; my friend introduce me to them. Their song, "Gin no tsuki, Kuroi hoshi" is veryyy good!

I really like Bloc Party, they came out with their first album, Silent Alarm, late last year. Arcade Fire is amazing, they came out with their first album, Funeral, that was carried by a label last year as well (they have two total), and are starting to recieve a lot of attention now.

I'd recommend "Banquet", "Like Eating Glass", and "She's Hearing Voices" by Bloc Party. For Arcade Fire, "Neighborhood #3: Power Out", "Wake Up", and "Rebellion (Lies)". Both of these bands full albums are amazing and every song is good, IMHO, but check those ones out for a taste.

A lot of the bands I'm into right now are new to me, but not new. If you'd like me to recommend some more, I can, I think we may have some similar tastes - would you consider that group Indie Rockish? I'm big into Indie and Indie Rock.

I entirely agree on The Arcade Fire - Funeral is a brilliant album. The songs Ash recommended are great as well (I've always been particularly fond of 'Neighbourhood #3 - Power Out'). Definitely worth checking out. Bloc Party is cool, but it's sad that they're all the hype right now here. Every once in a while a band comes out and all of a sudden everybody likes them, that's how it is here. =/ I mean, they're great, really, haha, but even all the kids who normally only like mainstream suddenly fall for Bloc Party as well. That's so wrong.

I've been checking out some 'new' stuff out recently (new to me, that is) and came across some awesome bands and albums. A few recommendations:

Iron & Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days; Beautiful acoustic music, very subtle and low-key but really great. (2004)
Galaxie 500 - Today; Wow. Shoegazerish kind of art-rock. Exceptional. (1988)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea; f00k yes. Rock + art-rock + shoegaze + punk-rock and whatever, this is awesome. (1998)
The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy; kind of like prog-rock, but ten times better. Upbeat, too. Great album. (2004)

There's much more, but this is really great stuff. I can upload some MP3s if anyone's interested.

On a sidenote, Ash is back! Yay! :yatta

Well, they're not the most relatively new band (they've been around for a couple of years, with three releases under their belt), but Avenged Sevenfold is a great band. They just released their major label debut, City of Evil, on Tuesday, and it's amazing (they used to be signed to Hopeless Records; now they're on Warner Bros.). It's one of my new favorite albums.

I completely hear ya. I almost through a fit when I heard banquet on MTV commericals one day. Luckily I haven't been aware of anyone I know who like them yet, other than the person who introduced them to me, and he's my music god. I know that sounds so painfully indie, but it does annoy me when bands that I really like become mainstream and are listened to by the wannabe punk teenyboppers. I can barely stand to listen to the Killers anymore because of it. ::le sigh::

And definately, Power Out is my favorite song on their album :D

Not super new but YOUNHA seem alright. I'm interested in more from UVERworld and JHETT as well.

LOL, well, I can safely say that I know exactly what you mean. It's just so stupid that these amazing bands have been out there for years and that all of a sudden just one of them gets picked up by a bunch of mainstream kids and gets completely raped in terms of well, being completely hyped. I mean, first off, it's just annoying, lol, like you pointed out, and second, I always feel like; there's millions of other bands just as great and all of these dumbasses are just completely ignorant on them. =/

Like, the Bloc Party album had been out here for a couple of weeks already, and then they played Pinkpop, a half mainstream/half not so mainstream festival. All of a sudden they were all the hype. I was in some record shop and everytime a teenybopper would come over to the counter I could exactly predict what record they were holding. Yes, Silent Alarm.

I say let indie stay indie!

My favourite band now is Evermore.

- Evermore is a band consisting of 3 brothers from New Zealand (Where they filmed Lord of the Rings!)

- Their first album is called ''dreams'', which they released early this year.

- They've just signed onto some big international record label, so they'll be releasing ''dreams'' later this year in the US, UK and Japan! (or so I've read..)

Their sound is unique, crisp, calming, and not ''wannabe teenybopper''-y at all!

just yesterday I came across a song "Cells" by The Servant. the song was featured in Sin City's trailer (btw the movie is great). right now i'm looking for their full album. their style is kinda hard to explain, it's seems like it's just plain pop-rock but it's not:) the vocalist's voice is starnge, sometimes funny

I like the Killers very much! I'm sure they are going to be very successful!

Evermore, eh? Cool I'll check them out. I wonder if my friend knows them, he's in a band from New Zealand too!

Jerk it out came out a while back, 2003 I believe. I think they rereleased it again. The song was on a beer commercial at one point and now its on that ipod one, right? Ceasers have been around since 1998 I think.

boogieordie 15th June 2005 08:23 AM

It's also in SSX3.

Oh wow did not know that. That's cool it's getting a bit more popular tho :)

Tho I know what some of you other guys mean about not wanting a lot of it to be too popular. It's like maroon 5 - i LOVED them before they hit it real big, but then they overplayed their songs :(

Thanks for all these suggestions too! I've tried looking up some of these bands and their websites and from what I've heard you all have good taste ^_^ Thanks again! :D
