MY STORY review: Stylus Magazine

This is from Jan '05 but I thought it was still interesting to find a site that's not Jpop-focused reviewing Ayu. A B+ for MY STORY, with some nice praise for the songs.

One listen to multi-platinum princess Hamasaki Ayumi’s newest release, My Story, opens up a world of possibilities for pop-rock cross-pollination that our current slew of ingénues can barely imagine.

That's indeed a very interesting read. Thanks for posting this Cyria.

Wow. O_o

that was certainly interesting. Even if i disagree with some of what was written, it's great to find a viewpoint of somebody who isn't necessarily a jpop fan. good find :thumbsup

I think he points on one important difference which is one of the most important reasons why I like ayumi / find japanese contemporary music interesting; versatility and blending different genres, less it seems caring about what's "right" genre-wise and.

isn't this the same magazine that bashed Ayu in that other thread?

different writers maybe...this one is written by a fan?

Different writers. I thought this reviewer approached Ayu's music from a nice point of view (the blending of genres, like *Petit* said) while the negative reviewer mostly repeated what people who don't like Ayu have been saying for years.

Thanks! I like this review, even if I don't agree with things he says. And from his response to the comments, I can tell that he takes it seriously and judges by what he does and does not know...*cough* *says something about other author*

I remember reading this article in the summer. To paraphrase the reviewer, "Game IS some next level ****!!". I'm still wondering why he didn't say anything about Catcher in the Light though.

lol! I really liked the Moments comments, something about the song being launched into the stratosphere with the solo. He didnt mention Catcher In The Light and Honey and Replace though. Probably he thought those weren't good. Still, Ayu beat Ashlee Simpson! Ashlee got a B for I Am Me! *laughs evilly*
