Lee Hyo-lee In Trouble With Britney's People Over "Get Ya"
The Associated Press: Britney Spears' songwriters have accused a South Korean pop composer of plagiarism and are seeking damages, a music publisher said Wednesday.
Universal Music Publishing Korea, the company that handles South Korean copyrights for Spears' music, said her songwriters had complained that "Get ya," performed by Lee Hyo-lee, sounded similar to a song they wrote for the 24-year-old pop singer titled, "Do Something." "Get ya" was the lead song on Lee's second album, which was released last month. Spears released "Do Something" in February 2005. Kevin Cho, general manager of Universal Music Publishing Korea, said Spears' songwriters claim the Korean track had been "partially plagiarized" and the company sent their complaint to Lee's composer, Kim Do-hyun. Cho said they were seeking a settlement of undisclosed terms, but hadn't yet received a response from Kim's side. Kim has said he was influenced by the Spears' song, but denied copying directly from it. He wasn't immediately available for comment Wednesday. Lee, whose sexy style has earned her prominent appearances in advertising campaigns, is staging a comeback this year with a return to live performances. Credit: BritneySpy.com Uh-oh! Bound to happen sooner or later, the song shamelessly rips off Do Something! |
yeah but hyolee's get ya is better and her mv is better then britney's and hyolee is diffenently all out better then britney spears, i knew about this already..hyolee has decided to stop promotion of the track get ya and cancelled all her tv appearances for the time being and will begin promoting her second single "shall we dance" she will begin filming the mv next week.

haha , the lamest thing is that Hyolee's latest has 2 songs that sound like Britney's 'Do Something'. 'Get Ya' & 'Dark Angel' , but 'Get Ya' sounds more 'inspired' than 'Dark Angel'. :P

I hate it when asian artists does this. It just encourages the stigma that asian artists just rip off western music. :(
|
even if it is plagiarized...i personally think Get Ya is much better than Do Something...haha...
|
I've also heard claims Hyolee ripped off Ciara too. I don't hear the similarity there as much as in the 'Do something' rip-offs , but Hyolee has two tracks on her latest album that I feel are definitely inspired by 'crunk' or whatever Ciara's style of music is called. they're similar in music style , but not copied in my opinion

Wah.
America has all of those 'copyright' crap, and while in some places in Asia, there aren't any. But still .. that's pretty crappy. I wonder HOW Britney's 'songwriter' got a hold of hyolee's songs :rolleyes |

Oh here is "Get Ya" Judge for your self http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yya-h8t7J...lee%20get%20ya |
^ yeah , I know. I've seen Hyolee dance to Beoyncés 'Crazy in love' in some show.
but I meant like I've heard people claim Hyolee ripped off Ciara's '1 , 2 step' on her track 10 of Dark Angel. I personally don't think that's a case of copying , more like the songs are of similar style of music. |
It isn't really her fault. More like her songwriter's fault...
Besides, I know Korean Hip-pop is inspired by American style Hip-pop. |

Yeah, I do wonder how Britney's songwriter got a hold of Hyolee's stuff.... |
Seriously, I knew this was gonna happen eventually. I couldn't even listen to 'Get Ya' without thinking of 'Do Somethin''. I mean, I love Hyolee and everything, but I knew she couldn't get away with having a song that was practically a carbon copy of a song sung by another very famous pop star

Well.. I guess the people that do Hyolee's music need to be more creative and think of their own stuff for her.. Unless they want another lawsuit. |
Thanks for the clip Akurei.
The song really DO sound like Britney's. Damn those songwritters/composers of hers! |

Track 8 on her album is a copy of TLC's "Creep" song. The album in general was very western inspired.
