(miss)understood sold over 1 million copies??

The RIAJ reports today that (miss)understood has indeed shipped over a million units in Japan. Sales may in fact be much closer to a million than the oricon charts had everyone believing, as some stores are lax in their sales reporting - especially around the new year's holiday release of the album.

However, it should be noted that the oricon still has (miss)understood sales at around 850,000 units - we'll have to see how things change in the coming weeks.

It should also be noted that Ayu's 2003 release A BALLADS is considered a million-seller by the RIAJ but not the oricon charts.

Ship and sell aren't the same thing.

IYFreak 3rd April 2006 04:47 AM

well why not its still buying

stardusties 3rd April 2006 04:47 AM

of course it's much closer to a million than oricon says, they don't count overseas buying

Yukitora 3rd April 2006 04:48 AM

^and oricon's figures aren't the final figures either.

A news report had said that Koda Kumi's BEST ~first things~ had actually sold about 300k more than oricon claimed it had. The article had full sales on everything she released in 2005 (grouped together, IE. singles sold so and so in total) and seemed a lot more reliable as the figures were not rounded up etc. I think they got those sources from Rythem Zone themselves and franky, I think (miss)understood has sold a lot more than the 850k we think it has.

I'll try find that news report btw... quite awhile ago...

True...

Well since our parameters for the sales are usually by oricon, we have to compare her past million sellers (through oricon charts) with the oricon chart and not other charts.

Keyword Shipped. Just because over 1 million was shipped doesn't mean people bought it. It could have just gotten shipped to stores and that's it.

Also when I get album sales Oricon is not the only place I look. I have 3 other Sources.

as for A Best that was released years ago. It may be considered but it's not.

Ya' know, I have this feeling we've already been over this topic already. :shrug

Well as long as we know that there's atleast 1,000,000 that exist in this world, we shall reside in peace.

It's already been established, thanks.

.llama 3rd April 2006 07:50 AM

..Why do people find so much interest in how many copies she sells of every single release?

PickleCookies 3rd April 2006 07:52 AM

Because it validates their interest in her.

.llama 3rd April 2006 08:01 AM

Oh, okay. :) ..well in that case, I could care less :laugh

Well, the japan versions bought off cyber stores like yesasia and CDJapan woulden't be counted by oricon, but it would count as "shipped". I don't know if "overseas versions" would count as shipped at all and thus not counted by RIAJ. I think (miss) understood is closing in on a million counting japanese cds sold, as many of her fans are overseas.

~X2RADialbomber~ 3rd April 2006 11:18 AM

I heard YesAsian and CDJAPAN were counted. o.O

I don't know for sure, but oricon only counts from certain stores. I guess might be counted as it's a japan-based sompany, but I think it's higly unlikely that yesasia is counted as it is based in Hong Kong.

Edit:

One more thing, would overseas versions be counted by anything at all? They're probably not appearing in any asian country chart, not counted by RIAJ as domestic sales of any country...?

Raleigh 3rd April 2006 01:10 PM

There might be a possibility that CDJapan is counted but as Petit mentioned, I doubt Yesasia is.

LacusClyne 4th April 2006 06:01 AM

so if they count the sales from every single japan version of (m)u sold, ayu would have reach a million?

Yesasia sales might count because alot of thier CD's are bought from Japanese stores or Yahoo Japan auctions.

And please don't tell me I know what Im talking about. I remember Yesasia sent me a CD I saw on Yahoo Japan. I was pissed after getting it.
