How many ayu fans are there in the world?
 

So, do you guys think how many ayu fans there are in the world…

I think there must be over 200 million ayu fans…

Let’s count…ayu’s albums’ sales now are around 1million in Japan. But there are also many ayu fans downloading her songs online(more and more actually)…and there are many fans who are not able to get ayu’s CDs…ayu has a lot of fans from many other countries

But in my opinion…really faithful ayu fans are around 200 thousand…faith here means – buying every released ayu works, and keep ayu the only queen in their minds.

What’s your opinion?

i'd like to exagerate, i think there are about a billion Ayu fans :D

His 2nd solo album [I think] sold like 55 million worldwide.. xD

I think the comparisons between Hikki and Ayu shouldn't be.. here.. xD

i think ayu may have more than hikki, since there aren't many people around me knowing hikki, but ayu...

Why just anyone born in the 90s? The Jackson's have been around since the 60s.

Also, 200 million? Certainly not that many, but quite a lot.

I'm going with truehappiness that there aren't that many Ayumi fans (referring to the 200 mil estimate in the original post). There are many repeat buyers of Ayumi CD's (some members here have quite a few copies of the same single or album for various reasons). Also, you can't really tell the number of fans by how many you know. I mean, I know a ton of people who like non-mainstream bands but that doesn't mean the band sells millions, you know? But it would be fair to say that western artists have more fans than Ayumi purely because they have more exposure in general. For instance, there's no question in my mind that Michael Jackson has more fans.

Well, yeah xD The Jacksons are ooolldddd. But nowadays kids born don't know of Michael Jackson, do they? :p Like little 6 year olds born in 2000..?

When I was a kid I knew of Thriller and stuff cause of MTV :p

may be 2mil -- becuz, i don't mean faithful fans. the number includes those who likes ayu but don't buy her cds -- maybe downloading(including illegal downloading).
it was said that Hikki's single Keep Tryin' was downloaded over 2 million times but the cd sale was poor...

and the question is how many in the world...ayu's got quite many int'l fans -- actually i think ayu must have the most int'l fans compared with other j-pop singers.

Well yeah. Jackson is so ubiquitous that anyone born in an advanced nation will hear of Michael Jackson at some point in their lives.

My point though was asking why you were excluding all the people born before 1990, not after. :)

130 million people in japan
30% under age of 30, about 1/3 of those like ayu
10% of 130 million = 13 million ayu fans in japan

i think 7 million foreign fans is pretty good estimate, so i agree with 20 million.

I was about to say I'd estimate less than 10 million fans untill I read your post.

I guess 6.8 million of those foreigners are in the rest of Asia.

People want to think she is huge in the rest of the world, she really isn't.

How to define a fan? A person who has heard of her? A person who has heard a song and enjoyed it? People who continously listen to her songs? People who buy her releases?

It makes it very hard to estimate, because theres definately atleast 200 million+ people who know who she is, what kind of music she makes and what she looks like.

Who really knows? But what i do know is theres 42,204 listeners on Last.fm, and thats hardly everyone, so i duno

Exactly, there's different kind of ppl, some just know who she is and all, I bet at least 50% ppl in Japan knows who she is... but when it comes to being a fan, that surely a smaller number...

But I guess 20-25 million fans is a fair estimate.
