Ayu's regular CDs vs DVD audio version

Are the DVD audio versions (rainbow, my story) worth it at all? 5.1 audio? does it make much difference? What about sound quality? Does anyone with a high-fidelity setup know? Thanks.

If you have a 24bit audio card (300$+) in your computer and speakers for 500$+ it's possible that you'd get something out of it.

Or you could always get a real 24bit DVD audio player for 3000$, and speakers for 5000$/pair, and a subwoofer for some $$$$ more and you'd very possibly hear a little difference. The 5.1 versions of the songs will sound different if you have a 5.1 system (surround system, can be gotten for around 50$), but you won't hear any difference in the quality of the music unless you got special training and/or an extreme audiophile set-up of speakers ;).

I'm getting them for my collection though. Only because they are pretty. Also, on the MY STORY DVD-A version you can watch some of the PVs aswell.

Do you know if all the songs are in 5.1 surround or just a few? which? And wait a minute, how many versions of the My Story DVD audio are there?

Oh man immel, the costliness of collecting everything is too hot for my blood. I was at a Japanese bookstore the other day and I was deciding whether to get the new Vivi and Cawaii cause they had her pics. I decided not to cause that's money I could use for CDs... Sigh, I have to scrounge around for used CDs with no obis. And I have no idea how I'm ever gonna get AT04-05...want that so bad...freaking 3 dvds...the clips I've seen on youtube are so funny...<tear>

On RAINBOW it's only the first song that's in 5.1, the first song is RAINBOW. You need a real DVD Audio Player for it to find the 5.1 track, computers don't always do from what I've heard. Gonna try when I get my copy, some time in the future. On the MY STORY DVD every single song is available in both 5.1 and 2ch.

I'm so hoping for a Swedish shop to start selling Japanese fashion magazines... her magazines is something which I want the most, especially the new ones (ViVi :drooly).

^by RAINBOW you mean that minute long lmtd. edition instrumental?

immel 17th July 2006 01:31 AM

No, it's the RAINBOW from A BALLADS.

There is lots of info on eneabba including some statements from an avex press release:

http://www.eneabba.net/ayu/disco/alb...RAINBOWDVD.htm
http://www.eneabba.net/ayu/disco/alb...Y_STORYDVD.htm

It says that you can also watch the PVs on the MY STORY one completely region free. :D

AyUmIXx 17th July 2006 06:51 AM

well..DVD version is always better, i think..

xiaou-xijiang 17th July 2006 06:56 AM

^I'd probably get both ver. (CD & DVD) (If I had the funds) MY STORY for the clips (I'm short of a Region Free DVD Player and I don't know if I want to risk permantly encoding my laptop by watching it more than five times) Thanks for the links. RAINBOW had pretty screen shots...

I'm confused.

Ok, in my home I have a DVD player. It has 5.1 channel surround sound hooked up to it. Would I be able to listen to the tracks in 5.1 audio, or would I have to have a specifically designed "DVD-Audio Player" for that??
Would that force me to listen to them in 2.1 channel quality? Would that sound much worse?
Would that be worth the extra money, or would the regular CDs be just as good?

immel 28th July 2006 11:07 PM

With the RAINBOW album it's very probable you will only be able to listen to the ONLY 5.1 track on the album in 2.1 instead, the RAINBOW album does only have 1 5.1 track, the song RAINBOW. The authoring of RAINBOW DVD-A is a bit weird, thus it seems to require a DVD Audio Player in order to see the 5.1 version of the song.

For MY STORY DVD-A you can play all tracks in 5.1 on a DVD player though.

Oh yay!!! Have you tried it yet? Does it sound awesome? :D :D

immel 28th July 2006 11:49 PM

I got my copy of it yesterday, but it's still unopened, lol :D. Think I'm gonna open it and try in a few days, preferrably when my parents are not at home so I can blast the apartment apart with the volume.
