[article] Girls get ready to be the next BoA

SunMin and Zhang Li Yin, two rising teen pop stars of different nationality, have taken meaningful steps to become "the next big things" in the Asian pop music scene.

Eighteen-year-old Korean SunMin (Lee Sun-min) made her sensational debut in Korea through "SBS Ingigayo," on which she and Shin Hye-sung (a member of the famous boy band Shinhwa) performed a duet on her song "Keep Holding U." Ten days later, 16-year-old Chinese R&B sensation Zhang Li Yin fascinated Korean audiences with her charming stage presence and great vocal talent on Saturday, as she sang her debut single "Timeless" on MBC's "Show! Musical Central."

In addition to being teen pop princesses with superior singing abilities, the two singers have much in common. Both of them are R&B singers and, like BoA once was, they were trained to succeed in a foreign market from the very beginning.

Interesting article. I wonder if they will manage to achieve the same results of BoA. They both seem quite determined.

Yeah, it isn't easy to uproot yourself to a foreign country for work at such a young age after all. Hopefully they'll be able to make it big in the end, otherwise all that hard work will be for nought. They seem to be prepared to pay more dues than others in their dream to become stars.

I think the SM's Zhang Yi Lin will probably have more success than the Good Ent's SunMin. I don't know why but I think the Korea<->Japan thing has become like ovesaturated and it seems that only BoA's debut did the best in Japan compared to the others (like DBSK etc.)

No kidding. BoA shattered a whole bunch of records when she started working in Japan. She's the only asian non-japanese artist to have a number 1 single and she has two albums that sold over 1~million copies...DBSK's, Rain's and Shinhwa's total sales combined don't add up to the sales that BoA has achieved so far. It's a shame that her new stuff doesn't sell anymore.

lol...

why is when a female korean singer comes out, its always compared to BoA.. even girl groups like i-13, "they're all BoAs!" lol...

but korean singers are amazing... especially the guys... their voices doesn't sound so similiar... (e.g. arashi & w-inds.)

O.o *pictures the entire teen female population of korea as an army of small BoA clones*

I guess similarities in the way they start their careers and/or BoA is one of the most (if not the most) successful Korean female singer internationally.

I guess they compare them to BoA because there's no one better...? Either way, it gets annoying. 'cause they're not really like BoA. =[

That article is somewhat wrong, BoA didn't start out as an R&B artist. None of her first singles were ever R&B, they were all dance-pop.

Alessia_Tateno 17th September 2006 09:13 AM

Wow interesting article ^^
