5 best selling j-artists of all time ... estimated

the point of this is NOT to tell you the top 5 of all time. there is already a thread in the news section of that ... its to tell you what the estimated sales would be if they all debuted in the same year [im going to be using 1978 for the year ~~)
Spoiler:

The real list of top 5:
1. B'z (75.614 mil) 1988-now (average: 3.979 million a year)
2. Mr.Children (50.635 mil) 1987-now (average: 2.531 million a year)
3. Southern All-stars (47.083 mil) 1978-now (average: 1.623 million a year)
4. Hamasaki Ayumi (45.528 mil) 1998-now (average: 5.056 million a year)
5. Dreams come true (40.893 mil) 1989-now (average: 2.271 million a year)

The estimated list:
1. Hamasaki Ayumi (146.624 mil) 1978-now (average: 5.056 million a year)
2. B'z (115.391 mil) 1978-now (average: 3.979 million a year)
3. Mr.Children (73.399 mil) 1978-now (average: 2.531 million a year)
4. Dreams come true (65.859 mil) 1978-now (average: 2.271 million a year)
5. Southern All Stars (47.083 mil) 1978-now (average: 1.623 million a year)

so this means ayu could probably become the top selling japanese artist ever soon ...

Well, interesting look at it, but the way Ayu's sales are now, I don't think she'll ever even surpass Mr. Children. Mr. Children still sells very well, and only if they stop making music will Ayu have a chance to surpass them.

I think it would be more accurate if it was done per release, like an average sales for each release they've done.

But someone said in JPM, the average for Mr. Children is incorrect. It's 3.375 million/year.

thats true...theres no way ayu can surpass Mr. Children....but its a great accomplishment already for ayu to be in the top 5 for a solo + female artist and the youngest :D

It's very rare for a musical group or singer to stay in the business for that long.

And like. That yearly average of 5m+ is calculated by dividing Ayumi's sales with 9, right? After another 9 years, the average could be about 100k, considering her declining popularity and the fact that she maybe wouldn't like to release an album every year.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for her to become the biggest selling musical act ever to hit the scene.

lol the lowest it can go by then [in another 9 years] is about 2.5 million ... its impossible for it to lower. and it can only go that low if Ayu never realeses anything else. :] which she will ...

What exactly is the estimated list?

Impracticable 20th March 2007 06:02 AM

the list is an estimate of what their sales would be if they all started their careers in 1978 and continued until now

In my post, I actually meant another 9 year time period, as in 2007-2016, but whatever.

Yeah... I interpretated your post to mean 2007-2016 as well... But 1.2 million in 2007 is already higher than 900k.

haruki 25th March 2007 04:36 PM
