A Leah Dizon question...

If Leah is only conversational in Japanese and not fluent, do they simplify her songs? Or does she have no clue what she's singing about?

Impracticable 9th August 2007 04:18 PM

Maybe she has a general idea what she is talking about?

Not a full or complete understanding, but she gets the gist of it?

that'd be my guess.

Leah does help in writing her lyrics for some (most) of her songs, so I think she knows what she's singing.

Leah is learning Japanese so she might not understand the whole song. But she understands at least half of it or the gist, like Impracticable said.

I think when she writes songs in Japanese they're translated since she isn't very fluent, but she still writes songs (like the english ones)

I don't think she has enough sense not to sing something she doesn't understand, but she probably memorizes the overall meaning of the song/each sentence rather than know what each individual word translates into. No offense guys, but her Japanese is BARELY conversational imo...she doesn't even know how to say, "My single releases next week; please support it!" which is pretty sad to me. The only thing I've heard her say is "hello", "thank you" and "a little bit" when asked if she speaks Japanese. Granted, I'm not a fan, but since she's ubiquitous lately I've seen a number of videos with her as a guest.

Yeah, she's trying, but she still has a long way to go. I think her music could've been a LOT more sincere/better if she took some time (maybe a year or so) to study and get somewhat of a grasp on the language before making her debut, like BoA did.

I'm sure she has a interpretor helping her write the lyrics or she writes the lyrics in English and has someone translate them. That's my guess.

i kinda thought the same thing about BoA cuz even though her english is fairly decent, she's not fluent

Oh, she's fluent. She may not have been in the beginning but seeing as how it's been...ten years? since she started learning and the fact that she spends a hell of a lot of time in Japan, she's definitely fluent.

Just watch her in TV shows. She talks with the Heyx3 guys fluently and without translators in rapid Japanese, and lemme tell you those guys are like a mile a minute. Plus, they speak in Kansai-ben so one would have to be fluent to keep up with their speed and regional dialect.

I think that once one can keep up a good speed and prolong a conversation with a native without an interpreter, one is considered fluent. :)

i think she understand what she sings...she must improve her japanese language and voice technique to stand still in jpop industry
