What does avex do to solo artistes from successful bands?

They give them poor promotion, and drastically undercut their talent!

Examples? Tomiko Van from Do As Infinity and misono from Day after Tomorrow. Argh, why is avex so horrible to them! And the fans don't even support them anymore.

:thud

Avex is mean. ;O;

Diana 13th August 2007 01:24 PM

misono was kicked out from Day After Tomorrow cause she got fat right? ... If she can sing why does it matter?! Well.. I don`t like her music too much, but she has talent..
Avex so mean... sob :(

thinkingoutloud89 13th August 2007 01:31 PM

^misono didn´t get kicked out XD she was lead vocalist Xd they disband because they wanted to do solo like DAT

I love Tomiko Van very much, but her solo work was nowhere near as good as DAI stuff, so in that sense it wasn't worthy for as much promotion.
And Misono's only had 1 good single... *hides*

personally I reckon avex has done nothing wrong...
you'd think being a solo artist you'd be able to do things you couldn't before..
and plus coming from well known bands such as DoA and DAT, you'd think the fans would stick around whether solo or not...

Seriously... look at DAT's stuff compared to the crap misono's been putting out...
I loved VS it was really catchy and she was looking at a successful solo career... but her music went weird and its clear her fans don't appreciate that either...

Promotion can only do so much... if its a bad song its a bad song...
Suzuki Ami is a great example.. one of Japan's biggest acts before she got blacklisted...
Avex promoted her tonnes at the start of her Avex career... but her music just wasn't up to par so her fans didn't react well and neither did Japan....

If they produced good music that was selling decently they'd probably get promoted better... But the fact that it wasn't good lead to less promotion...
And misono had that whole TV diet show to promote herself, so yeah

I have a feeling that DAI will be back.
Tomiko and the ther guy from the band sales are horrible.

And you wonder what both of them have been living by with sales like that right?

I do agree that the quality of their music has paled compared to when they were in bands, but I don't think it's that bad. I guess they're like back to being debut artistes all over again.

ImpactBreaker 14th August 2007 04:10 AM

I never thought misono was talented, I mean, I'm a fan and all, but I really don't think she has any special talent at all :no

Tomniko Van however has an amazing voice. I guess she needs to work with a good composer. I really wonder what happened to Dai Nagao...is he still composing anything to any artist? There was a time I was a bit sick of him, however, it would be really amazing if he started composing back for Tomiko and ayu once again :shrug Without Dai Nagao, DAI's songs became weird and uninteresting...if DAI is ever to resurface, I think that would be only wiorth it if SDai Nagao were to be part of the band again (at least with the composing job)

sora2522 14th August 2007 04:17 AM

dai nagao didn't compose some songs from DAI?!

how strange...

what about tommy? wasn't she with avex?

On their last album, I don't think dai nagao composed any of the songs. This is reason why that "future" song and several others from that album just plainly sucks.

Tommy has always been under SONY

sora2522 14th August 2007 05:45 AM

oh, ok
thanks for clarifying

truehappiness 14th August 2007 05:53 AM

For the future was good! D:

DAI worked on a bunch of songs on NEED YOUR LOVE, I thought. He worked on For the future..

[He did like, all their music beforehand too..]

i'm not very sure....i think dai nagao did composed most of the D.A.I songs from what i know. All i know is that tomiko and ryo composed some songs in GATES OF HEAVEN album and they wrote quite alot of the lyrics..

ayumisrael 14th August 2007 06:29 AM

I love A LOT both DAI an DAT but now tomiko and misono are both crap imo.

evolusean 14th August 2007 06:39 AM

As for Do As Infinity, their later music was at least a good attempt to mimic Dai's style. It is really very similar in structure and sound. I actually think "NEED YOUR LOVE" is one of their best albums, albeit probably their most commercial sounding.

As far as solo artists: Well, like everyone else said, promotion costs a lot of money, and if the sales aren't there, you can't continue with promotion. misono & Van Tomiko, as much as I love them (VT especially), didn't have particularly strong music on their own. There is something to be said for those who are great team players, but not great leaders on their own. Making the group-to-solo transition is very difficult for everyone. Look at all of the NSync members, Spice Girls, and Backstreet Boys who were at the top of the world in groups, but failed miserably on their own.

ruixiong89 14th August 2007 06:41 AM

^ Yup, that's really true.

Perhaps it's the team dynamics that appeal as a group?

truehappiness 14th August 2007 06:43 AM

Well, usually fans want the package deal. Otherwise there's no deal in it XD

This makes me think of the scene in Dreamgirls when Effie left and it was like "We can't do the show with just two! We need all three!"
