Shiina Ringo: Is she good?
 

I'm not familiar with her, and I'm always looking for new artists to listen to ;). Is she any good? What genre? Reccomendations?

Personally, I love her, but I can see why she may not be for everyone. She seems to dabble in a bunch of different genres, but I think she's generally considered rock. I really like her Shosou Strip album and song wise: Honnou, Yami ni Furu Ame, Gibbs, Souretsu, Sakana, Momen no Handkerchief, Gamble, Sakuran and Tadashii Machi are some of my favourites.

You should try her album Shouso Strip. I luv it so much. :weep Listen to Honnou first as its an excellent song for u to get into her. Try gibusu afterwards as I think it'll make u love her even more. :bchuck

i would recommend honnou, ringo no uta, etc... i seriously recommend any song from her, they are really good

she has a really unique voice and song style...you need to listen to her song so many times before you like it...

Shiina's amazing, easily one of the best artists in Japan. As well as her earlier rock stuff, her more recent Jazz stuff is even better imo ^^

Personally, I LOVE her and she was my musical mistress during the period where Ayu was my musical love (Now that no longer matters xD) but her voice is rather nasally and you either learn to love it or you hate it therefore you need to get a feel for Shiina.

So I recommend listening to her first 2 albums, Muzai Moratorium and Shouso Strip perhaps even some Tokyo Jihen and you should be fine with the rest ^^

And yes, Shiina is one of the greatest artists in Japan. Her work is unique and she's exrtremely talented. Her voice may not be the best, but she's a great composer and very creative.

Exactly what I meant to say. She's talented, unique and impressively creative. Give her a try right now. By the way, she's releasing a B-Side album collection in this week, great chance to know her.

Shiina is probably the most intresting Japanese artist. Most of her albums have track titles that mirror one another. On KZK some of the mirrored songs even shared the same instruments to the beats and the whole album ran 44 minutes and 44 seconds (while 4 being an unlucky number in most of asia).

Some of her lyrics are rather vague, especially at a first glance. I believe there is one song she performs with Tokyo Jihen about two lovers commiting suicide. The girl believes the man is going to just leave her to die instead (meaning he's not going to die and just let her go) so she decided that since she is dumb enough to believe him and be in love with him she deserves to die.

Her voice is little bit... weird ? unique ?

I can't say her voice is really great, but she's so special and unique. (She rolls her "r"s unlike any other artists!) Her music is really great and different.

It's my favorite song from her!

Oddly enough, she's probably got my favourite voice in JPOP or in general, I think it's so emotional.
