kiss o' kill

Does anyone have any suggestions for what kiss o' kill might mean?

It looks will o' wisp, which means "will of the wisp", so could it be that kiss o' kill means "kiss of the kill"? But that doesn't make too much sense does it.

So, I have a thought that the o' might stand for "or", so kiss o' kill in this context means "kiss (me) or (I'll) kill (you)"... Does that sound plausible? The song is after all, about a subject similar to a martyrdom.

Any suggestions?

I always thought it meant "kiss or kill" or "kiss of kill"

pommy48 11th August 2008 03:52 PM

well the lyrics, i would think it's kiss of kill~
....but kiss or kill sounds better though

waterballoon 11th August 2008 04:01 PM

Haha, I don't know. Reading the lyrics, it gives me the vibe of someone who sacrificed a lot for her loved one, and the title gives me that, "I have done so much just for you, can't you..." message. Something like emotional blackmail.

And then, with my own speculation of how most, if not all of Ayu's songs with titles in all lower case mean the opposite of the actual meaning of the song, it seems as though Ayu is trying to tell us, "I appear as if I sacrifice and want reciprocation, but I don't", kind of like how walking proud isn't really about walking proud... if you get what I mean.

kiss or kill. And sometimes, the titles of the songs don't have nothing to do with the lyrics.

pommy48 11th August 2008 04:06 PM

^ lol so right~ someone should do a poll of "what song titles don't even match the lyrics" i would do it...but too many songs @_@

and i love your sig!!!

My interpretation is that she's telling someone to trust her and to let her be close to them (kiss), but it's also scary to trust people and be close to them because that's when they can hurt you the most (kill).

kiss or kill

and i think it just a random title...

i wonder how ayu choose the title of her song

omg, I have never thought of it like that... nice one!

Okay, anyway, I don't understand why would any title, especially Ayu's, be random? Because titles are extremely important, and randomly choosing a phrase to be a title is a little too... random?

Like, to me, I can infer a lot of nuances/hidden messages in Ayu's songs through her titles. Especially since most of her titles aren't words that are in her songs; rather they are "summaries" of the general idea of the song...

rikku411 11th August 2008 04:55 PM

I think it's kiss or kill, and I've always thought of it as: if you're not going to love me (kiss) then just kill me (kill) because I can't live without you.

alternarist 12th August 2008 04:11 PM

i always thought it kiss to kill.. LOL@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *hides*

anyway. yeah. judging from how the song is performed, i think it has a strong meaning behind it.

kendelle 12th August 2008 05:30 PM

TBH I don't think too hard about Ayu's song titles, so it's interesting to see these interpretations!!

I always thought of it as "Kiss or Kill" though :)

Aderianu 13th August 2008 12:05 PM

i think it's something like "Kiss or kill me, because I can't live without you"

I read the lyrics...

Iono, I feel like it could be...

"kiss me and I can find your weakness which can kill you"

Moody 17th August 2008 04:12 PM

Not sure if this helps but here's a translated Linear note from Ayu about the song, got it here. ;-)

Quote:

13. kiss o' kill
words: ayumi hamasaki
music: Tetsuya Yukumi
arrangement: Keiji Tanabe

ayu: as for kiss o' kill, I love Tanabe-san’s arrange. It “hurts” from the introduction when kids are making noises. You pass by a park and hear playing kids’ innocent voice, it is warm but makes you feel sad or miss something on the other hand. This song has that kind of image. And I feel confession-like feeling throughout the song. Because we become adults, we lose things, throw things away, earn something, learn something we don’t wish to learn, see things we are not supposed to see… through those things, we learn means to protect ourselves smoothly, but it can also hurt other people… innocent kids’ voices and the confession-like part of ourselves as grown-ups. Both are present in this song, and I think it really hurts.

mister kaz: Kids’ gaya (voice) joins again and again?

ayu: Originally there wasn’t much, but I thought it was the main point of this song.

mister kaz: Contrarily, kids actually have sides that are more cruel than adults think they are.

ayu: There is cruelness made out of innocence, too. That’s why it feels warm but also makes us sad.

waterballoon 17th August 2008 04:59 PM

Yeah I read that too (I made that thread too!), but somehow it doesn't really seem to say anything about the title... maybe the part where the innocence hurts could contribute to the "kill"...

Moody 17th August 2008 05:11 PM

[QUOTE=waterballoon;1590869]Yeah I read that too (I made that thread too!)QUOTE]

LOL oops sorry :o

Aga-chan 18th August 2008 08:43 AM

In the quote posted, ayu talks about how two different feelings are present in the song. I think the title might represent that. kiss=affection, while kill=hatred.
Duality or - maybe better - contradiction is also present in the lyrics. For example:

Quote:

The more you pretend to be strong the more I see your weakness
The more you bare your fangs the more I see your pain
That's how I would see the title...
